EBK is alright in my book. A little creepy, but many photographers at cons are. He's polite when he asks to do shoots and apparently we're now on a first name basis. I was a little weirded out when I learned that he was specifically waiting near a huge planter for us to walk by so he could ask to do a group shoot.

Al is super nice, he's maybe a little bit awkward but definitely not as much as other photogs, and he's willing to shoot whenever you want, which makes him a reliable photog if you just want some generic shots. While his photography isn't GREAT to say, I've gotten some nice simple shots.

Even if his photos are not OMGTHEBESTEVAR, he is important to the cosplay community because of the sheer number of photos he takes. He provides a service (for free) and many times, without his photos, there are a bunch of us that probably wouldn't have photos of our costumes at all.

I don't think bragging about his exploits on /cgl are really hurting Masa's chances of getting laid. A girl is either going to be sexually attracted to him or not, and I don't know many girls that are completely turned off by the fact that the dude they're into has had more sexual partners than them (unless they're a virgin or a prude). These days with my hours being cut, not that much. I did recently come back from going to Thunderhill raceway this past weekend. My friend drove his NSX and I got to sit passenger in a Spec Miata and my friend's NSX, it was fucking awesome as we passed by people in corvettes who have a lot of car but can't drive it.

There are two things that have bothered me in the past about EBK.

1) How objectified he makes women seem. I doubt he's doing it on purpose because he doesn't SEEM like the type to do that, but by seeking all the busty/revealing costumes, dragging them off, and dropping 50+ photos on one costume seems really excessive. After every convention I know he's attending I will, for whatever reason, browse every photo. Out of every 10, 1 will feature a male cosplayer as the lone subject. Which leads me to reason 2...

2) In the video game chat thread on cosplay.com I mentioned I'd be "debuting" my Welkin Gunther cosplay from Valkyria Chronicles at Anime USA '10, he mentioned that he wanted a picture. I was walking through the lobby and stopped so some photographers could take some pictures of someone else. EBK happens to be there, he makes eye contact with me, then moves on. I'm not expecting him to recognize me, but really how many possible Welkin Gunthers could there be at a convention of 5000 people, much less in the whole god damn cosplay community. It's almost like sexism, or perhaps I'm just butthurting. Either way I'm glad I'm not a woman.

Good things about EBK

-He will photograph anyone without discrimination, and he will do his best to get as many photos as he can. It's especially good for the new/uncertain cosplayers getting into the hobby.
-He's at a lot of events. The only way I can think of that he can do so is that he's got a lot of paid time off racked up, otherwise, it's his perogative.
-He's approachable and friendly and doesn't seem to intend to offend people. While to some it's "too friendly" others seem OK with it. I think it depends on your feelings on personal space.

Bad things about EBK

-He needs a few photo classes. While I understand he is more of a snapshot photographer than anything, it could actually make his stuff better.
-He wants to be taken seriously and trusted as not a creeper, not understanding that he does stuff that's...well, creepy. Posing with skimpy-dressed girls all the time is not the way to get credentials.
-He wants to be buddy buddy with everyone, almost to the point (and occasionally beyond it) of pushiness. The world don't work that way.
-His social skills are a little weird. Nothing that can't be remedied, but as long as he seems to have been in the hobby, if it hasn't gone away by now, it isn't going to.

Overall: On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being worst, he's about a 5. He's a guy photographer with a guy's mind about women. He's acted in ways that would definitely line up with "creeper" but otherwise he gives the public what a fair chunk want: cosplay photos and sometimes cosplay boobies and butts. He is easily threatened away, from various reports, so if you don't like him, you can definitely run him off, because one bad incident and he'd likely find himself banned from a few events, and I don't think he would be happy if he couldn't do snapshots anymore.

And that's my humble feedback for the day.

The whole thing with EBK is that he gets away with being a creepy perv just because he's modestly hot.
