My friend and I are arguing where cosplay originated from?

Was it Japan or America? Can someone help.

asians dont know anything about creating own things so they copy everything and just change its name lol.
cosplay exists since the first actor dressed up as a character and played his part at a theater. cosplay its only a modern word for something that already existed. pretty stupid lol.

Actors doing their job =/= fans dressing up for fun.

professional cosplayers exists. contests with gifts too. so it is much the same thing.
im sure actors enjoy with their jobs and get fun too. you said that like someone put a gun on their heads and tell them to work as actors or they would be killed.

Fan costuming was pioneered by Forrest Ackerman and Myrtle Douglas, when they wore their "futuricostumes" to the first World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon) in 1939.

The term Cosplay was coined by Nov Takahashi after visiting Worldcon in 1984, and he used the term in his reports instead of "masquerade," which would be more difficult to translate to japanese.

    Pic related, it's your granddaddy.
