In the short term, this bill is great, it will keep millions of poor people who leech more than they contribute alive for years and years longer.

In the long term, this bill is horrible, it will drain money that could be used to help all Americans, not just the bottom 50%. Imagine the improvements that could have gone to education, to scientific research, to renovating our aging infrastructure. And of course the heaviest loss will go to new medical technologies and techniques. We could have raised the entire world's lifespan by decades, wiped out diseases, cured cancer. Here's an awesome idea for all of those who are worried over illegal immigrants potentially "draining" the money out of our healthcare system:

Raise sales taxes instead of federal and state income tax to pay for healthcare. Those who can afford to spend more can afford to pay more in taxes--and the more they spend, the more they'll pay.

Honestly, I just want to see some support for preventative healthcare--and it's more likely we'll see that if the federal government, rather than HMOs, are in charge.

I'm a firm believer in survival of the fittest. having a good job and making money "generally" means you're smart and have skills, and most likely healthier. seriously, look at history. The health care bill as it is does not specify salary caps for doctors. It does NOT include death panels. It DOES keep health insurance companies from denying coverage to those with preexisting conditions (like depression, which is rather easy to get when you have been out of work for months despite your best efforts).
If the right amendments get passed, hopefully there will be caps on malpractice suits, which will in turn lower the cost of malpractice insurance which is the main reason doctors have to turn away medicare patients.
