Ugh the healthcare bill makes me want to punch babies.

That means that all of the illegal immigrants will be getting free healthcare with MY tax money. I'd rather a few of them die because they can't get health care than sap away all of my money. Yes I do mean that. I have plenty of immigrant friends who all came here legally. It's a huge pain to immigrate here legally and the fact that these assholes BROKE THE LAW as the FIRST THING they do when they get in the country...it makes me sick. We shouldn't reward them with free healthcare at the law-abiding citizen's expense.

I did a research project on illegal immigration a couple of years ago. ONE ILLEGAL MAN from Mexico brought a rare strain of TB into the country at some point during the early 2000's. He caused 70 other people to get sick and their health care bills cost in excess of $200 million I believe it was? His ALONE was ~$1 million of the taxpayer's money.

Yeah healthcare is great, but you have to look at the big picture. I want to be a doctor and if this healthcare bill grows any further, I might have a salary cap. Yes that seems selfish, but do you know how much it costs to get that type of medical training? To be able to do a procedure safely? Do you know how hard people have to study just to be given the CHANCE to study at medical school? All of that time, effort and money does not deserve to be cut off by the government. Meritocracy is the way to go and apparently our government doesn't believe in it.

In case you didn't know, most illegal immigrants do not even go to hospitals and doctors out of fear of being deported. They prefer to suffer silently the same way natural born citizens with the right to healthcare (but who can't afford it) do.

To the person that started this, if you are against illegal Mexicans from coming into the USA and "stealing" your money, please stop purchasing the drugs that propagate the emigration of Mexicans from their country because of the violence trafficking produces, and stop eating the food on our table that they pick or kill for you.

OP here. If there's no way for us to be compensated later in life after giving up an arm and a leg to get the proper training, how are you to expect people to want to become doctors?

Where I'm from, people need money to live after all. You can say "But you should be doing it because you care!" all you want, and I do care, but in the long run, I need a house, I need food, and I want to be comfortable, and I think working this hard, I deserve to be comfortable.
My argument was based around the fact that I'm not talking about my "fellow citizens." I was talking about a bunch of scum who can't do things the legal way and now they're being rewarded using your and my tax money.>>2727733

You aren't entitled to medical help just by existing. It's your body, and it's your responsibility to take care of it. Doctors aren't running a charity, theirs is a legitimate buisness and getting mad because you think you're entitled to being taken care of for free because it's "your right" is downright stupid.

Honestly if we grant FREE healthcare to people who are NOT American citizens you know this means even more illegals coming to the country for their "basic human right" and taking even more jobs from people who actually are citizens. If they want the free health care they need to become citizens. I can't go up to Canada and get their free health care, why should anyone else be able to use ours?

That doesn't sound like a legit way to help our economy when illegals cost Canada $691 million a year.

You all realize that this bill that passed doesn't provide free health care? It's making those that don't have health care pay for it or face a fine. However, it's making it easier to get health care and making it illegal to deny people based on pre-existing conditions. There will no longer be stories of three year olds being denied health care because they have leukemia.

IRT OP: You'll still be making plenty of money. The illegals won't be raping your salary. You're honestly retarded if you buy into this doomsday bull shit. This bill is hardly the best thing to happen to this country, but it's far, far, far from the worst.

Also, if you get a cap on your salary, I doubt you'll be making that much less. You might not be able to get the speed boat 3k, you might have to settle for the 2k, but you'll still be making plenty of money because the medical field is always in demand and it requires, as you said, expensive training. Your standard of living won't suffer that greatly and if it does, then guess what? We're in a recession. Practically every industry will suffer at some point.

Or they could give you a set number of check-ups a year. That way, people don't go in just because they have a mild cold. They'll only go in when they think something is seriously wrong, leading to less abuse of the health care system since they think they're only paying $5 when they come in but really are costing their insurance company $200+. If you have something minor and are under the age of 60, you should just drink some orange juice and eat some chicken noodle soup.

Personally, I'd gladly pay a small portion of my income to help rid someone else of cancer, but you know, that's just me.

Enjoying university, actually. Where I'm at, loans are a possibility, but you have 6 months after graduation before you have to start paying them off. Not to mention the addition of interest.

And is "scholarships" code for candy or something? Because I'd like to see a scholarship that has less than 100 people vying for, on average, 7 spots.

In the United States, secondary education (middle and high school) are free. You mean tertiary. However, I agree with what you said.

In all honesty, there will always be economic losers and economic winners. It's this competition that motivates us to make ourselves better. However, we should still take care of our poor. If it wasn't for the under-achievers (I'm not talking about students who support themselves by doing low-paying jobs while going to school) or just those who didn't excel in school, we'd have too much competition for high paying jobs, meaning you'd be less likely to get paid and have to take a job as a janitor just to attempt to make ends meet.

Then I'm not talking about those people, darling. Education isn't wasted on me. It's wasted on morons who don't understand we aren't the World's Babysitter.

If secondary education is too expensive that's one thing, but I know a lot of people in that situation who went on to be successful people without college. They aren't who I'm talking about.

I'm talking about those people who are either too lazy, or too ignorant to do anything else. Because they expect everyone else to take care of them.

Point is as long as they're American Citizens then yes, they should be granted the rights of that status. If they're not, then they shouldn't. This is a simple concept. Regardless of anything else I've said that has been misconstrued, that is my point.

    Here, do some reading.

I don't understand why everyone's getting so worked up. Even the bleeding hearts shouldn't be claiming victory right now because the bill that was passed does very little to help people in need and will decrease the quality and availability of healthcare for everyone in the country.

The bill that passed on Sunday was a messy, rushed, pork-laden clusterfuck of random bits of legislation and pet project funding that had to be promised in order to get support for it in the first place.

It's embarrassing to see people calling the president a socialist but it's just as embarrassing watching you lot blindly defend the bill as if 1. you knew what it contained and 2. it actually contained anything worthwhile.

I have master's degrees in art history and education. And you know what? I got the money to pay for them working a fast food kitchen and frying chicken. My experience in the kitchen taught me that my fellow "Mexicans" weren't idiots at all - we had Carlos with a degree in biochemistry who couldn't get hired at any of the local labs, so took on fast food until he could get his family situated, and Juan, who fled to the US after surviving horrible experiences and treatment under the Guatemalan army, and is a local hero as a counselor in the domestic abuse victim center.

The problem with so many of people who go into high paying careers - doctors, lawyers - they rarely, if ever, spend time in one of the millions of jobs that keep our country running. Try washing someone else's dishes or have someone scream in your face that they make more in a day than you do in a month, and then you can tell me that meritocracy is a good idea.

Cost: $940bn over 10 years; would reduce deficit by $143bn

If you take the total population, which is 308,931,000 and times it by .05, you'll get 15,446,550. So, roughly fifteen and a half million people make up the wealthiest 5% of the nation, right? To make it into the top 5%, you had to have made $150,000. Altogether, they make $2,316,982,500,000. That means they could pay for it twice in one year. Nice try.

It includes numbers like "$500 billion from cutting waste" and other things that the Democrats will never do. It's a well known fact that the $940 billion estimate is a low-ball bullshit estimate that the Dems pried out of the CBO so they could say that the initial cost is less than $1 trillion. You'd have to be an idiot to think that it wont go obscenely over budget just like every other massive social program in the history of this country.

Hi OP, i'm from australia and we have this system pretty much.

Illegal immigrants wont have access to the cheaper healthcare system because they will most likely need a medical card (which everyone in australia needs to recieve healthcare) and it requires so many forms of ID that immigrants most likely wont be able to just fake their way in. same with the homeless, they need a permanent address.

ive heard other americans whine about the waiting lines too. yes, people with the stupidestly small health worries will spam up clinics, but this one guy was like "i'll have to wait for 6 hours with a broken arm while a mexican with a cough goes before me".

thats rediculous, in the emergency room they serve those with the most need first.

In fact there is so little that is wrong with this system, americans dont realise how good it is for them. So much for your american dream and human rights. This healthcare bill will help those in need who cant afford healthcare otherwise.

I just can't fathom how you people can be like "omg my money will be wasted on niggers and immigrants" when otherwise it would be sitting in some private health insurance co., with percentages being scabbed away by greedy buisnessmen, who have the power to simply say "no" to you and screw your whole life over. when you can help others who need it desperately, and then recieve the money you need when you one day need it, and you would choose the first option?

Fuck you. your whole country is stupid, goddamn.

In the short term, this bill is great, it will keep millions of poor people who leech more than they contribute alive for years and years longer.

In the long term, this bill is horrible, it will drain money that could be used to help all Americans, not just the bottom 50%. Imagine the improvements that could have gone to education, to scientific research, to renovating our aging infrastructure. And of course the heaviest loss will go to new medical technologies and techniques. We could have raised the entire world's lifespan by decades, wiped out diseases, cured cancer. also, uh, science got LOTS of money recently. not saying we couldn't use more, but we got a shitload more from obama than bush ever gave us.

Haha. States cut the shit you mentioned on their budgets.

All that money probably would've kept the programs at the level they were once. Shit, not ever having the war could've done the things you mentioned plus more.

Here's an awesome idea for all of those who are worried over illegal immigrants potentially "draining" the money out of our healthcare system:

Raise sales taxes instead of federal and state income tax to pay for healthcare. Those who can afford to spend more can afford to pay more in taxes--and the more they spend, the more they'll pay.

Honestly, I just want to see some support for preventative healthcare--and it's more likely we'll see that if the federal government, rather than HMOs, are in charge.

I'm a firm believer in survival of the fittest. having a good job and making money "generally" means you're smart and have skills, and most likely healthier. seriously, look at history. If you're too dumb to get a good job, or too fat to work, or some other goddamn EXCUSE, then we don't need you. Free health care should be given ONLY to those who actually are in need and have been injured at work or something, not because they're lazy and don't want to work, or are a lazy Mexican bitch who hops the border and has 20 fucking babies and lives off of welfare. seriously, fuck those people. you EARN your right to live and have a doctor, like it's always been, otherwise, get the fuck out of my country, don't breed, and get the hell out of the gene pool.

as I biology major, I do know survival of the fittest. Even in society, the patterns of the biological adaptations of SOTF are replicated. Why do you think the world isn't filled with refugees and the homeless? because those people get weeded out... hmmmm... I wonder why there are hardly any Bosnians around anymore... DUH.

No, it's not a human right. You should pay for it, moron. You don't deserve free health care. No country has free health care. Everyone pays for it somehow, whether from taxes or whatnot. And if you're incapable of paying then someone close to you is paying your share of it.

Then see how much you support the survival of the fittest.

The health care bill as it is does not specify salary caps for doctors. It does NOT include death panels. It DOES keep health insurance companies from denying coverage to those with preexisting conditions (like depression, which is rather easy to get when you have been out of work for months despite your best efforts).
If the right amendments get passed, hopefully there will be caps on malpractice suits, which will in turn lower the cost of malpractice insurance which is the main reason doctors have to turn away medicare patients.
