    So /cgl/
today during calculus class I was called into the principal's office because some anon parent emailed the school, worried that I was suicidal.

    The reason?
They saw my profile picture on facebook of one of my cosplays.

The vice principal and counselor asked me how I was doing, my plans for the future, then told me the above.
I assured them that I was not in the least bit suicidal, then had to explain my hobby to them.
They assured me that I was not in trouble or anything, but just wanted to make sure I was fine.

The vice principal and guidance counselor were both very kind and understanding but shit was so awkward.

    TL;DR
Can I have some stories from you guys where cosplay got you in trouble, or where it caused some interesting situations irl?

    Pic related, t'was the cosplay.

I once organised a relatively large cosplay meetup in my area due to a general lack of cosplay related events here. I spent weeks organising it. It took place in the huge shopping centre we have. We used the Cosplay.com forums as well as posters I made to organise it. I managed to get posters in quite a few good store windows too, including Waterstone's window thanks to their manga section and such.

Either way...things went from good to awful. Just awful. There were a trio of Kingdom Hearts cosplayers that decided to turn up, and it was on in particular who started all the chaos (to say the least).

Greasey blonde hair and wearing only a long leather jacket, she was supposed to be Larxene. She screamed and yelled and jumped about, brought far too much attention to herself to say the least and caused many problems. While I tried to organise where we'd be going for some good quality pictures together she decided to climb up some elevated plant area and shout down to everyone her plans. Needless the say the more mature cosplayers there weren't impressed with her. They all did their best to help things go smoothly for me (since I put so much time into organising it and didn't want some random YAOIYAOIYAOI shouting child to ruin it for everyone).

In the end, security of the shopping centre kicked us out. There had been complaints and considering the trespassing into areas of work she did etc (this was over 2 years ago so my memory is hazy) I can understand why. I think if her and her pals had've composed themselves like the rest of us people wouldn't have minded so much but...I guess screaming people in elaborate costumes can be quite threatening, especially since cosplay isn't too well known where I live.

Not cosplay but my bf's parents thought I was 13 when they saw me at a con wearing lolita :/
Asian do tend to look younger and I was wearing lolita, so I guess shit was forgiven.

I was walking to a convention from my hotel a few blocks away, and got stopped by a plainclothes police officer that thought I was a hooker. Granted it was ten at night and I was in shorts and thigh-highs and a shoulder-baring top, but really? In the middle of downtown with Lust the Homunculus walking down the opposite sidewalk and not another hooker in sight?

    Katsucon 2009.

We parked our car in a cheap lot across the street from the hotel, and left via the parking exit so we didn't know what else was in the building. Turns out you have to go through the main entrance to get into the garage, so I went in to get something from the car, where I was greeted by quite a few cops and a federal security checkpoint (as the building was an EPA building or something)

the problem? I was doing Jigen from Lupin III, and thus had a prop gun in my back pocket as part of my costume That was not a fun experience

Otafest 2008. I get pulled over for speeding. My van was packed with 9 people cosplaying from Sailor Moon. The look on the officers face was priceless and he gave me a ticket without a warning :(

Really? The EPA Building security guards were really nice to my group for AUSA 2009.

I had a prop rifle with a folding scythe that was 6 feet tall and was apprehensive about it but had no problems. One of the security guys said it was "pretty cool looking". They just had us walk through the gate.

Eaton's Center in Toronto kicks out any person taking pictures looking a bit weird. We were in a low traffic hallway taking pictures against a wall and within 5 minutes a guard escorted us out. Keep in mind we were wearing Death Note costumes so it's not like we looked that out of the ordinary.

Eaton's Center is notorious for kicking out cosplayers though. We knew that when we came in. Maybe they just really hate photography...

Well we technically weren't inside the mall. We were in some offshoot hallway probably leading to the underground P.A.T.H. We didn't go in there specifically for a photoshoot, but it was freezing so we went in and tried to take some pics against a flat tiled wall in the hallway as we were entering.

So much Death Note hate, geeez, it's not like I'm a 16 year old fantard running around screaming yaoi. I'll take the hate on that though. I have cosplayed L before.

Eaton's center used to be ok for going in there. I think security got tighter after some Turk cosplay group started climbing over railings a few years back.

Guessing here, but going by the OP's pic, if they uploaded a Persona cosplay pic with prop gun as a profile pic, it could concern people who don't know the person or know it's cosplay.

A situation slightly similar to >>2671606

It didn't happen to me, but to one of my friends.

A while ago, they had the bright idea to go bowling in cosplay. While it was kind of silly to be in costume (we were doing the Vocaloids), there were only about six of us, all girls.

We acted normally, if not a little more timid than the normal bowler. Also, it was a week until Halloween, so they figured why the heck not.

It was only about 7 at night, and a while into our game, two of them told us that a policeman thought they were prostitutes. In a bowling alley? One was dressed in a skirt, a little questionable. But the other was dressed in shorts down to her knees and a polo shirt. Maybe it was the pink hair?

One of them was fifteen and the other only thirteen.

TL;DR A police officer thought that two pre-teen girls were Hookers.

I horrified the girl at the fabric store. I was getting some so-so pink cotton cloth cut, and I was holding a pattern for a fancy prom dress in my hand, asking a friend of mine if I thought they'd look right together. She enthusiastically assured me that they would.

The poor fabric cutter looked like she'd swallowed a bug. "You're making your prom dress... out of this fabric?" She just didn't know how to tell me I was clearly retarded and in need of better friends. XD

I had to assure her it was for a costume, not an actual prom dress (I was making Aeris' dress and just needed any cheap dress pattern to keep myself from fucking up).

I've heard that from other people too who went to pick their cars up on sunday, I think I just got the jumpy and bored friday night crew.

Though to be fair, I got the reaction from cops that cops should have given to a guy carrying around a revolver (even a prop one) in a pretty bad neighborhood

Hah, yeah I think sometimes the fabric cutters get a little scared....

Once I was getting fabric for completely different things and the lady was like "That's not supposed to go with this, is it? That's not supposed to line it? Because this isn't as much blahblahblah" and giving me this kind of know-it-all-attitude and I was like "...No. They're for different things." And wanted to follow that up with a Z-snap. Don't know why the hell anyone would just assume they were for the same thing, or that I wasn't aware of how much fabric I was getting. x_X Lady, I told you myself how much I wanted, didn't I? Meh.

Malls are a double edged sword - either you look like you know what you're doing and they kick you out because they're worried you're making money off their location as a backdrop (and not paying the crazy-ass location fees) or because you don't look like pros and you're a bunch of idiots taking photos.

If you want photos in the Eaton centre you gotta play tourist or not at all - nobody wants tourist photos in an access hallway, so it's bloody obvious when you're doing it.

Cadillac-Fairview are uber strict when it comes to photos on their property. Security for those places sees anything even remotely resembling not a tourist shot they'll boot your ass.

Where I live there is a very interesting (in architecture terms) train station we decided to use as background for a photoshoot.

And so there I was posing when a security staff appears and asks "are you taking pictures for your myspace or facebok?" and we were like "YES OF COURSE!"

Then he proceeded to lecture us on how I should not pose like that and how we could not use the train station as picture theme if we were going to put it somewhere besides myspace.

    It was awkward, at least.
