I hate the weeaboos in my class.
One of them wants to make a drawn calendar. She says she's gonna draw a character wearing a style of clothing on each month, of course Japanese clothing styles.
And then she was like "uhmm yeah for summer something like gal style, and then for winter something like sweet lolita...".
I am in no way a die hard lolita, but the fuck. She seems to believe that lolita can only be worn when it is cold.
They also seem to believe that lolita dresses are ment to be frill monsters, or having candy themed prints everywhere... short skirts, you know the drill.
They are so closed minded. I know more about lolita (and about manga wtf) more than they ever will, but I better don't argue with them about it and stay looking at the photos of real lolita styles that can be worn all year long.

Oh, so she's seen the endless legions of girls in BTSSB.
Those are the stereotype for a reason.

She is mostly inspired by weeaboo sources, manga with a heavy importance of fashion, like Paradise Kiss. I guess if I brought her one of my Gothic & Lolita Bibles, she'd be a bit... surprised.

    Alright

the concept of "weeabo" is something I've never truly understood; I mean I get the basic concept, but it seems to be thrown around in a really inconsistent way.

for instance, I've been told by people who "hate weeabos" that I'm not one, but I get called that on egl all the time for normal shit like eating ramen at a con (surprise, I'm a poor student). what the fuck?

It's ok to eat Japanese food, to like Japanese culture, etc. But when you start to randomly babble Japanese in front of people like "kawaii!", or like "omedetou!", then that is... worrying. When you try to shove it to the others, that's when it gets annoying to me.

Don't Japanese people use english terms in conversations too? I know in songs they do, and I've heard it in movies too I think. Isn't that sorta the same thing as using japanese words in english?
    >> Anonymous 03/05/10(Fri)19:55 No.2660815
    >>2660810
no because those are loan words. derp

it's a matter of mindset. I actually am a jap (many generations American, lol), and from when I sit it's more matter of ignorance, arrogance of the culture, combined with INTENSE social incompetence.

for the record, bitter haters using the term "weeaboo" is about as much as a turnoff.

So what's the difference between a white person saying "kawaii" and a japanese saying "cute"?
    >> Anonymous 03/05/10(Fri)20:03 No.2660842
    >>2660830
There isn't. But apparently Japanese is sacred or something.

What about Taco Bell Spanish? No one complains about that. Because it's not Japanese.
    >> Anonymous 03/05/10(Fri)20:06 No.2660848
    >>2660830, see >>2660819

saying "kawaii" as a white person to someone else who gets the culture is no big deal. insisting on being all "ohayou gozaimasu, nya~!" to people who don't like you or don't give a shit comes off as poserish and really pathetic.

also, the people who did that were such a cancer, there was a backlash in the con mainstream against any form of overt otakuism. personally, I travel a long way to go to cons, people aren't as uptight about it here.

It's not just about using japanese words, though. :|

It's when some faggit is so obsessed with anime, that they wish they were japanese.
They try and (half-heartedly) learn japanese so they can brag to all their friends about how "otaku" they are or some bullshit.
They run around screaming "KAWAII-DESU" in a language that they know 30 words of.
They want to move to japan to be a MANGA-KA just like their favorite animu.
They intentionally eat ramen non-stop, because it's the only way they can feel the "asian culture" and they think it's cool.
Or they eat everything with chop sticks because they think it makes them more japanese or some bullshit.

ALL IN THE NAME OF ANIME!
    >> Anonymous 03/05/10(Fri)20:13 No.2660874
I actually personally find any excessive use of a language while holding a conversation in another fucking obnoxious. Doesn't matter what the languages involved are, it just sounds stupid. Japanese people speaking English, too.

    >>2660850
I think they should. That would be hilarious.
    >> Anonymous 03/05/10(Fri)20:20 No.2660896
lol@ the discussion of english loanwords in japanese language. you guys need to learn some history before you claim an english-speaker saying japanese words because they sound cool is the same as a japanese person using words that have been accepted as part of their language, sometimes for decades before they were even born.

This shit makes me rage so goddamn hard. My mum is Malaysian. She taught me how to eat with chopsticks when I was around seven or eight years old. I enjoy eating asian noodle soups, and chopsticks genuinely make them easier to handle.

I'm sick and tired of being in the food court at the mall and having obese fucks in Naruto headbands stage-whispering to each other OH MY GOD SHE'S EATING WITH CHOPSTICKS, I WONDER IF SHE'S JAPANESE?! THAT'S SO AWESOME I'M GOING TO EAT WITH CHOPSTICKS TOOOOO MAYBE SHE'LL NOTICE ME

And then they drop soy-sauce slathered cheap sushi all over their stretched out weeaboo t-shirts.

and the japanese have a proper english word for it, kawaii. you haven't shown why one is okay, and not the other.

    >>2660867
    >>2660874
I get where you're coming from, I really do. I have really negative response to like 60% of the people at a con (inb4snob).

let's be realistic, though. having and interest and trying your best at it is not really a big social sin, and it's inevitable that a lot of people will fail to do a good job. and really, talking about some anime concepts is just easier in japanese, and when the people you're talking to you also speak japanese... not sure if I see the big deal.
    >> Anonymous 03/05/10(Fri)20:26 No.2660908
I also hate it when weeabos are talking about this series/anime/videogame and call it in their Japanese name, when there is an English name for it.
Some girls spend a whole year randomly talking about a videogame calling it by its Japanese name, when it had an English one... and I didn't get what the fuck they were talking about.
    >> Anonymous 03/05/10(Fri)20:44 No.2660972

because Japanese people who use English words are usually fairly normal (for Japan anyway, let's not kid ourselves) but Americans who use Japanese words are almost always like "ZOMG JAPAN IS SUPERIOR IN EVERY SINGLE WAY EVER BOW BEFORE EMPEROR BAKA JINGAI KAWAII DESU~N!" That's defined as not normal.
    >> Anonymous 03/05/10(Fri)20:44 No.2660973
I use the term to describe the particular breed of con-goer that seems to have adhd or asbergers and can't act their own age.

Maybe it comes from being more sci-fi vidya con oriented but some anime con goers make me cringe.

I don't get why being able to eat with chopsticks while being a westerner is seen as being a weeaboo.
I'm a westerner and I've known how to eat with chopsticks since was very young about 6(-ish).
I don't know about you but I rrraaaage everytime someone decides to make a comment about me using them while at an asian style restraunt.

It's not being able to eat with chopsticks that's the problem.....Who cares if you're using chopsticks at an asian restaurant?

It's when they try and eat obviously western food (like.......a pork chop. Or mashed potatoes.) with chopsticks.

personally, I do that. I don't watch dubs and I usually don't even know the english title (if there is one, often a series will have a bunch of english titles, which gets confusing. use the japanese title, the actual one. sure, if it's well-known or you're talking to someone that obviously has a problem with japanese, don't.)
