03/05/10(Fri)10:34 No.2659221The
fact is a lot of commissioners do shoddy work. While their own costumes
might look nice, the stuff they sell ends up being sub-par. It's one of
the reasons I don't take commissions. When I'm sewing something for
myself I have a certain passion and fire for what I'm doing because I
know how it'll look once I have my makeup and wig and everything on. For
others ... I have no idea if they're going to completely fuck it up by
not just relying on the costume alone so there's not as much attention
to the tiny details. That said, if you can't make it as good as you make
your own stuff, DON'T!
Barb isn't the only one doing this shit,
though. She just seems to be one of the more well-known. Joellen's
commissioned pieces are a trainwreck and she cannot meet a deadline
either. While I figure her own stuff looks decent enough, I've seen her
commission work up close and it is not what you'd expect. Painted on
embroidery, bought items that were altered, uneven stitching, lame' bias
tape that she couldn't even miter. On top of everything she couldn't
meet a deadline set months in advance and couldn't be honest about the
fact that she was behind on schedule.
Now, this was 2005/2006
when my friend ordered said commission so I can't speak for her work
now, but the fact is everyone tends to fuck up commissions.
My
best friend used to take commissions and I always watched her repeatedly
fuck things up, especially due dates. I can't tell you how many times I
watched her half-assing some costume the night before the person needed
it and then rushing to the post office to overnight it hoping that it
would arrive in time ... it usually didn't.
Moral of the story,
it's not just Barb. If you want to ensure you have something down
properly and on time either do it yourself or find someone who you
absolutely know will get it done on time and not put their own costumes
before their commissions. |
