One thing that will probably always disappoint me about cons is the total lack of merchandise for my favorite shows. I see plenty of Naruto, Bleach, and Death Note product, but very little to nothing for FLCL, Monster, Ghost in the Shell, Darker than Black, or Berserk. There's a little for Gurren Lagann and more for FMA. Sad faces.

Have any of the photographers with a lot of equipment/photoshoot photogs been harassed yet? Due to the Gaylord's photography restrictions, I was worried.

Besides the fact that basically everyone in my group was sewing up until an hour before curtain at the masq, I had a blast.

Panels looked generally uninspiring but I never lacked enough random stuff to do besides them. Hetalia mock UN was pretty funny. Needed a bigger room like whoa.

Masq staff was cool and didn't run around on a massive power trip. I was grateful, 'specially since I was bugging the main guy every five minutes or so... The event itself ran pretty smoothly and judging was thorough, but...

The MCs. Who were they and why the HELL would they wear something like that!? I usually don't complain about these things but that was DISGUSTING. Also, not funny. At all.

Skits themselves were pretty tedious. The entire novice category was plotless dancing. Long, drawn out plotless dancing. If they cut it down to a minute, it'd be okay. Everyone decided to utilize the 4 minute limit. Dear LORD. The Kuro/Fai skit was so cool! For the first half.
The Best in Show was so pretty! All the costumes were sparkly and looked great on stage. It was well rehearsed to be sure but...

Katsucon was a mixed bag for me. Beautiful location...but horribly inaccessible in comparison with past locations and uncommutable for one in D.C. (Katsu '06-'09 = $60 to attend, Katsu '10 = $600)
Scheduling and execution of events was a mess with events at weird times (6:00AM panels, and 3:00AM karaoke?) with many rescheduled or canceled. Con staff was mostly polite, but there were a few annoying security jerks with power trips. Apparently, shirtless men and anything capable of producing sound were the targets of the year. ("Holy man nipples and megaphones!")

On a positive note, though, the Gaylord and surrounding grounds in National Harbor are simply gorgeous. I'll be back there for weekend photoshoots and random gallivanting when the spring comes around.

For those of you who missed the Tsubasa skit that Phantom and I (Kurogane) was in, or if you are *really* desperate to see it again, I've put a version up on Youtube. I even subtitled it for you all, so you can still know what the lines are even when we were being drowned out by screaming/laughter.

Had a great time, even if making the background video, script, recording, costuming took a long time hehe.

Same here, although I was too busy doing AMV contest preparation and ballot counting (Holy christ there were a lot of votes) to notice anything grand. I only had to cancel going to only two of them in the end. Of what few I went to, I enjoyed. :)

Would've been at least decent had we dealt with our usual Darth Vader bro instead of two horribly cosplayed DOA girls. I didn't figure that girl was Hitomi OR she was Ayane until they mentioned as such. They did fail at humor, but it didn't help that we had a tech crew it seems this year with experience of complete ASS. (Almost every event I went to had some sort of big fuck-up in the midst of it.)

I had to wonder how the fuck we went from Masters category to THAT. "HURR I KNOW HOW TO SAY TWO WORDS IN JAPANESE THAT MAKES ME BETTER THAN YOU" and using tired jokes/arguments as a basis for skit annoy the piss out of me. God dammit cosplay is dying.

Thanks, dude, the Sharon is my gf. Who the hell were you? However I agree that it got boring, and this was my exact worry that I told them after watching them practice. I take personal responsibility for this, because I was supposed to take a part in the skit to liven it up halfway through, but backed out.

I agree that overall the masq was kind of subpar compared to past years. Not sure what the heck happened there. There were a few gems, but it felt pretty slow.

Generic dance skit wins masq... Really? Really? It's shocking that the people in the skit are "lolfamous"/judges' friends.

And then the craftsmanship contest. I'm pretty confident that that version of Ciel made by Scout won at AUSA. Am I the only one who remembers this? I mean, yes, it's impeccable. But is that allowed - for her to have it entered again after its already won? Even if it is allowed, that's not really cool to do. I felt like there were cooler/better things in that contest that kinda got stiffed.

And for person asking about wanting to look at her craftsmanship; I've seen her make a good portion of her costumes. Her craftsmanship is A+ and only getting better. She works incredibly hard on ALL her outfits, and most of her Ciel costumes are made to be historically based off the time period.

I was pleasantly surprised as to how courteous, helpful, and generally awesome the hotel staff were, after reading the poor Travelocity reviews prior to the con. Check-in was very accommodating getting our two separately reserved rooms as close to each other as possible, and the staff I talked with were friendly and thought the con was cool and amusing.
I just wish it all wasn't so damn expensive.
