Hey /cgl/ how do you feel about non anime cosplays at anime cons?
    >> Meesh !4UjY1di7KI 02/04/10(Thu)17:46 No.2554829
I love it. I wouldn't want them to enter so much, but bring all your non anime related cosplay..it's all good.

And if they cosplay Dr. Who (( 10 nom nom nom)) they are on my awesome list.
    >> Anonymous 02/04/10(Thu)17:52 No.2554844
Love it. It's nice seeing something different in the sea of Naroto and Kingdom Hearts.

This. Nothing ruins a good con like Big 3 tards do.

I've only ever cosplayed an anime character at an anime con once. All I cosplay now is /co/ an /v/ stuff. It's kinda cool if you're you the only one cosplaying your character at a con, even if most people don't know who you are.

Isn't KH technically non-anime? Or is it so close that it just blends in to the anime category? In any case, yes, it is over cosplayed, and the fandom cosplaying it doesn't make things much better.

I love seeing cosplay in general! I never care if it is anime related so long as they aren't in the cosplay contest or something. That is kinda anime and vidya only in my opinion.

OH MAN! one year at my local anime con the ConHead bitched at a friend of mine who was wearing a Sweeney Todd costume and said that if he didn't leave to take it off right that minute, he was going to kick him from the con. I really hate that guy, he is such a fucking snob. This is the same guy who showed up to my anime club, introduced him self as the guy who made "all this" possible in our town, bitched at us for watching anime with subs and not raw, went on and on about how he only watched older shows because the new stuff was all shitty (mind you new in his eyes is just about anything beyond the early 90s), called my mother a weirdo to my face, and then left right before we started showing the anime, which was Fist of the North Star that day.

GOD DAMN I DISLIKE THAT MAN.

    The big three?
Is the other one Death Note or Hetalia?

Holy crap, what con was it that he ran? If it's still around I'll make a note of not going to it. ((FML if I have been))
    >> Anonymous 02/04/10(Thu)18:13 No.2554897
my boyfriend really hates it for some reason, i don't know why. anime cons are about more than anime, they're about the subculture surrounding it and cosplay is part of that subculture. i always enjoy seeing a good Jack Sparrow or Disney character.

Most of the popular stuff blends into the DO NOT WANT category. A majority of the cosplayers are loud and annoying little shits but the few people who cosplay other things, like OP or other shows/movies, are like a breath of fresh air for the most part.
    >> Anonymous 02/04/10(Thu)18:17 No.2554915
I cosplayed Joker Nurse at a 2008 anime con which went down well (or at least lots of people started at me with huge terrified eyes).

I wouldn't really stray from anime or video game costumes otherwise because I'd be worried about hostile reception but I really appreciate seeing something original as previouse anons have said.

He seriously bitched at him for wearing Sweeney Todd?

WTF. Who cares if it's not anime cosplay. As long as it was within the dresscode and rules of the con.

Your friend is paying to be at the con like everybody else, there's no reason to try to throw him out of the con for wearing a non-anime costume.

Star Wars, GI Joe, Star Trek, etc...(inb4 Star Trek manga) I don't give a fuck. We're all geeks in costumes and we all there to have a good time in our silly dress up time. The core part of cosplay is showing your love for your fandom.

Unless they're trying to do something like enter a /co/ costume in an anime masquerade, or break the rules. Then just let them be and have their fun.

I believe the "big three" are Naruto, One Piece, and Bleach, if I'm not mistaken. Though, I wouldn't call One Piece nearly as overdone as the other two as far as cosplay goes.
    >> Anonymous 02/04/10(Thu)18:28 No.2554938
I do it. Heck sometimes people at anime cons really seem to like those costumes of mine better than my anime ones. Just don't try and enter a cosplay contest with them at an anime con because they usually specifically state in the rules that only anime/video game/sometimes other weaboo things like j-rock costumes are allowed. And if you try and enter then you're probably just wasting your time and making it awkward for the people running sign-ups and the judges.

    THIIIIIIIS.
On an unrelated/kinda related note, I love seeing Venture Bros cosplay. It makes me happy. x3
    >> Anonymous 02/04/10(Thu)18:55 No.2555013
I always do /co/ based stuff. Mostly because I've never ran into a double of myself doing that. I've gotten alot of hostility for it from snobby cosplayers but never any grief from attendees so it's normally a great time.

Personally I think anyone who makes their costume from scratch regardless of what it is exactly should be allowed in a cosplay competition. I've never entered because I'm not the type of attention whore that needs all eyes on me for 30 seconds, but I've always felt depressed knowing of the SHITSTORM that would ensue if I did.

I have always done /v/ and /co/ related cosplays. Never once from an Anime although I considered Hetalia but scraped that idea.

At another point I have considered Epoch Trunks but have run out of time to do him

Anime Oasis. It's in Idaho so I doubt that you would ever be interested anyway. It is really a fun con, and most of the time costumes from things other than anime are fine, but that guy is just such an asshole sometimes. I love it when he says that he has been going to more cons and participating in more masquerades for longer than anyone else here and because of that he knows best, I remember his first costume and skit because I have been going to the same cons but for even longer than he has.

I recently did a Venture Brothers cosplay around November. It was pretty well received at the con I went to. (I didn't get any of the snark other non-anime cosplayers seem to have encountered.)

I like it, personally. I mean, as much as I like seeing cosplays of my favorite anime character, there are 436277832490 of them at every con. I will always appreciate that single Belle or Ironman more than the fifty Dr. Steins.

    >> Anonymous 02/05/10(Fri)00:55 No.2556122
From my experience most /co/splays are superior to the anime cosplays I've seen. ...They tend to be more in shape as well.

If a cosplay is good, it belongs at a con. The idea that a con of any theme should have nothing but that theme is horribly boring. Honestly, I like non-anime cosplay at cons as I'm less likely to expect it and more pleasantly surprised when I do see it.

I have a ways to go, but I'm getting super buff for Akon to cosplay Brock Sampson. It sucks because I'll have to not work out my legs to get bro mode going on.... I think I'll grow out my hair and perm it. Unsure if I can find a wig that eccentric....
