12/02/09(Wed)10:51 No.2377157>>2376680 I
understand, that was just the best extent of my knowledge so far
because I just started one mascot costume this year. While researching
on making mascot costumes, I realize I couldn't get my hands on a lot
of the materials that are usually used in making big mascot suits that
doesn't close-fit to your body (mainly because I can't afford them and
I didn't have the experience in applying them). I was considering for
Gengar's round shape that would look awful without structure on the
inside. If you don't have the budget that's why I suggested those
materials. My Domo-kun, being rectangle, was only shaped by a liner
that had a flexible bone structure, sheets of stuffings and spongey
foam, and was held up by reinforced cardboard that rested on my
shoulders (painful, but that's where padding came in handy).
I
realized, if you can, use the soft spongey foam, cut out a pattern that
would become round when you attach the edges together. To prevent it
from sagging use a flexible stick-material that can bend (of course,
not break under too much pressure) to keep that roundness. This idea is
flexible, a little light, and should be easy for leg movement. For my
Domo-suit, the main body's boning structure is only 2/3-3/4 of the body
because the other 1/3-1/4 was nothing, enough room for my legs to move
and space for me to sit. If you make a "upside-down fish bowl" of the
structure, the opening can be where your legs are, so it is up to you
how big the hole can be for the legs.
Unless you get a
professional mascot costume-maker to commission for you, I don't know
what else to suggest. Good luck either way!
All this thinking makes me want to try a pokemon mascot... |
