had a "flat tire" on the way to her final exam. Her professor allowed
her to take the test later on in the day because of it, thankfully.
>>2336688 Long version about how I got this shoot:
When
I posted the buildup on my blog, a few days after DragonCon, I made
mention that I was looking to do a shoot at the aquarium and wanted to
get in contact with the proper people there to make that happen. I got
a LOT of hits after posting that (over 100,000 in just 2 days) and a
few people gave me some leads.
3 of those leads panned out,
and I started emailing various people in the aquarium. Eventually I
worked my way up the food chain and to their director of public events.
I sent them links to my blog, photos of the suit, and a rough idea of
what locations in the aquarium I was after.
I got an email in
mid October saying they'd love to have my shoot there, and 2 hours of
photo time would run me $3,000. I declined as politely as possible,
trying desperately not to sound like a penniless schmuck.
2
weeks later, they emailed me again with a new offer. If my photographer
and I were willing to release publishing rights to the Aquarium so they
could use the photography for advertisements like the DragonCon events
and such, we could shoot for free. Had to be before business hours,
yesterday only.
I had three escorts for the duration of the
shoot. No waivers were actually signed on the aquarium side, which I
thought was odd. They said security would have to check out my props,
but that never took place either. Throughout the whole event, I was
just trying to be as accommodating, polite, and grateful as possible.
All I can say is don't count on a break like that. I got damn lucky and I know it. |
