    ITT Con and cosplay deaths

In other words cosplayers that have died and people that have died at cons.

Con suicide stories are also welcome

i don't know about any deaths, but at Nekocon 2008 a Sephiroth cosplayer stabbed another dude in their hotel room.

They were fighting over a hoodie.

(this was pretty much the most interesting aspect of the entire convention...)

Masa is very much alive, he just doesn't give a shit about /cgl/ anymore. When he visits on occasion, he posts without a trip. He has a life.

As for dead cosplayers, there was a cosplayer who died a few years ago, when cosplay.com was a smaller community. There was a memorial thread.

    Ah, I see.

Wow, This must've been a long time ago. Because cos.com was big when I joined in 2005.

Any link / info on this would be epic.

same here. she had typed up a "goodbye letter" which she planned on posting to /cgl/ and then she was going to jump into the middle of a highway.

Few years ago a bunch of people on my friend's list were mourning a cosplayer who had committed suicide. I didn't know who she was, but I knew a ton of people who did and my friend's page was filled with letters to her. From what I understand, it wasn't a surprise, which always upsets me that someone could know someone that depressed and not do anything about it.

Michael McKeithan. Left Acen 2007, drove into a deserted field and shot himself in the head. Took a few days to find him, and the forum was full of "Have you seen him?" threads. Was really sad how the community banded together to try and locate him, coordinating and mass messaging people on facebook and various fan forums.

Not exactly at a con, but a couple of years ago there was a shooting at a rave/drug house during Sakuracon and some congoers were there

Shelley, known as 'Flutterby727' on DeviantArt was murdered about a month ago.

    http://cbs11tv.com/local/student.murdered.arrest.2.1292353.html

It's horrific and depressing, especially since she had a lot of potential as an artist, and was a really sweet girl. And to be stabbed 40 times, I just can't even comprehend it.

Not to be a cynical fuckhole, but it seems like people ALWAYS gotta talk nice about someone when they die. For all we knew, she could have been a batshit bitch that couldn't draw for shit. But now that she's murdered and dead, it's all "Oooh, she was a nice girl with such potential."

Ya know what? Fuck it. I AM a cynical fuckhole. Fuckin' humanity.

I believe it's a 'respect the dead' sort of thing. But, her artwork was featured in advertisement for the Art Institute, if that's worth anything.

Considering she was a cosplayer, she must have been at least somewhat batshit, but from my experiences with her, she was down to earth and nice.

But, still, I don't care if she even might have been totally apeshit bitchy, no one deserves to be stabbed forty times. No one.

...how is it edgy to maintain an opinion of someone after their death? o_O
I don't like how everyone goes "AWW, WHAT A LOSS!!!" no matter what someone was like in their lives. They screw up their life, I'll remember them that way.
    >> Anonymous 11/12/09(Thu)02:31 No.2322378
    >no one deserves to be stabbed forty times. No one.

The level of care, though, depends on the type of person getting stabbed. No one would care if she were a hooker or a junkie or a checker at Wal-Mart.

    Oh Lord thats frightening
I think I may have spoken to this girl once, at a con and even at the Art institute.
Shes a fellow Texas cosplayer and went to the same school I did while living in Dallas
    Her face seams so familiar.
    That's horrific!

It sucks when shit like that hits home.
The murder of Shelly reminds me of my own uncle's murder and brings back bad memories.

Even if she was "batshit insane" no one deserves to be murdered. No one deserves to be 40 times. More-so when it's by her boyfriend's roommate who is jealous of the relationship that her and her boyfriend have.

Seriously, that's just sick. It's sad that someone within our community got murdered like that.
    >> Anonymous 11/12/09(Thu)03:13 No.2322521
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. Why don't we just let go of our nebulous morals and realize that death, while tragic, is a part of life and that murder, while at times horrific, is really just people being honest with their primal natures?

Fair enough. Though if she was a bitch to everyone she met, sold her ass at the truck stop for meth, had shitty cosplays, drew art that was on par with Christian Weston Chandler, was a complete uggo, had some mental disease, whatever...you wouldn't be so glowing about her. You'd probably even be editing a page on ED about her. People are evil like that.

No actually she was a very nice girl.

I was looking for some information on her and I found out that she had a friend of mine on watch on DA. Apparently he met her at Afest this year just a week before she was murdered. She was going to be doing some cosplay with my friend and they were talking online right after the con. I just told him tonight after finding out they knew each other that she had been killed. He said she was a big sweety, really energetic. He was wondering why she had suddenly stopped talking to him.
Sad that he just NOW found out.

I keep having this deep down feeling that I have met her to. I keep thinking it was at ikkicon while just chilling with a bunch of cosplayers while waiting for our badges.
    Sadly I'm not entirely sure
