When it comes to slight cosplay inaccuracies (from the costume and the wearer) what elements are you most likely to overlook from the list while others you can't stand?

    - Height
    - Gender
    - Skin Tone
    - Body Type
    - Footwear
    - Wig color is wrong shade
    - Hairlength
    - Missing props
    - Missing accessories
    - Makeup

Post of Redd White cause we all need more Redd White in our lives
    >> Anonymous 11/08/09(Sun)12:51 No.2309943
I'm probably most likely to look over skin tone. For the most part, you can't help that. And I know I've wanted to cosplay some tan characters but I'm white as a ghost, so I understand tanner people wanting to be white characters, considering how many there are.

Wig shade isn't that bad either, because I've had the nightmare of buying a wig that looked perfect on my computer but arrived and was totally not what I wanted, but it was two days before the con so I needed to use it.

Gender's also not a big issue if they do a good effort to crossplay.

What I won't forgive is when people just do an ass job of making the costume/props/whatever and think that they are masters of the world. I mean, make a bad costume, fine, you're inexperienced. Make a bad costume and think you're hot shit and talk down to me for it, I'm gonna have to choke a bitch.
    >> SlowMope !LQ6XW3vel6 11/08/09(Sun)12:58 No.2309957
    I don't care about
    Height
Gender (if they made at least a pass at crossplaying, not rule 63 bullshit)
    Skin Tone
missing props (can't always have that 100ton gun on your shoulder can you?)

What I am willing to look over:
Footwear (if it is similar enough)
Wig color (so long as it is close and not WAY THE FUCK OFF.)
missing accessories (so long as they are not the big obvious ones. if you forgot the ring, oh well)

Body type I can forgive sometimes, but there are people who just never seem to understand that they are 80 lbs over weight and look nothing like a 9 year old.

hair length, and makeup are very important, and very easy to do. there is no excuse.
    >> Anonymous 11/08/09(Sun)12:58 No.2309958
    Attitude.

But I always seem to notice shoes if they're not right.

    >>2309957
oh oh wait, there is one exception to the hair length, and that is if the character has super long hair. I would never expect a person to maintain a wig that goes past their feet and has more volume than a duvet wrapped around two body pillows. In cases such as those I would go no further than mid back.
    >> Anonymous 11/08/09(Sun)13:21 No.2309993
I'm willing to overlook Gender, height if done properly (as in you can crossplay well and if you're in a larger group your height is accurate in that or if you character has a specific height which is referenced to a lot in the source) and skin tone I'm willing to overlook as well.

The wig colour being slightly off annoys me a little but it's not that big a deal, entirely wrong colours I can't stand, same with hair length, if it's a little off no big deal but if it's way off... I also really dislike it if people use there own hair.

Body type...depending, I don't want to see anymore 200lb yokos, but if it's something like a white mage I'm not bothered too much.

Missing props..once again depending, if the prop is always with the character or is the defining aspect of the character I'd like to see it but like >>2309957 said it's not always possible to carry around some props. A great prop can do amazing things for an okay costume though...

Missing accessories do bother me, they're not that hard to do, but if it's something small that isn't often pointed out I doesn't really matter that much.

Footwear bothers me the most, I really wish people would spend more time on it. I've seen amazingly accurate cosplays that I can't stand because the footwear is a little off, I'm calling all you Frans out she's got TWO heels on each foot TWO.

makeup bothers me as well, it's not that hard to apply and you look 10x better.

though all my dependings are if that's the ONLY thing wrong, I don't want to see an overweight cosplayer with no props, no accessories and the wrong wig colour, that's just too much all at once. And if I did find a cosplayer with none of the inaccuracies listed (including height, gender and skin tone I would probably prefer them over another slightly less accurate one)

I haven't slept in awhile so ignore the grammar and spelling as best you can.

I can't overlook fucking up very simple looking cosplay. Like something that consists of a suit and a hair style or some simple looking dress. It's easiest of all to fuck up easy cosplay.

I can overlook anything really if the person does a good job of representing the character. This doesn't particularly apply to cosplay that's just plain shitty to begin with. If you have a decent cosplay and you look or carry yourself like the character then despite any inaccuracies, it's impressive.

I'm a huge offender of doing stuff cheaply as I've never handled a sewing machine in my life. Pretty much all of my stuff is just closet cosplay but for some reason it just works out in the end then again I'm the first one to admit how terrible I am as a costume maker.
    >> Anonymous 11/08/09(Sun)14:14 No.2310071
I'm willing to overlook anything that can't be physically changed if the cosplay is good. Things like Height, Gender, Skin Tone, eye color ect.

Now, for example, if its quite obvious a crossplayer didn't bother to bind or use makeup to give themselves the illusion of a more masculine face then I'm not down with that.

the other exception is wig length, because some characters have fuckoff long hair and honestly, wigs past a certain length are going to tangle to hell and be useless anyway.

It depends on how badly off things are. If you don't have a few, but as a whole it looks okay and you made an effort, it's fine. On the other hand if you have everything but one aspect is just so badly off and weird (like japanese cosplayers and hooker shoes) it can ruin the whole look. It's more an overall impression, and when something is so badly wrong that it's all you can notice about the costume, it ruins the overall look.
    >> Anonymous 11/08/09(Sun)17:28 No.2310553
    Overlook:
    - Height
    - Footwear (as long as they look like they tried)
    - Hairlength (as long as it's not WAY off. If your wig is knee length instead of ankle length, I won't care)
    -Eye color

    Can't overloook:
    - Makeup (you should at least have good makeup, that's the easy part most of the time. Concealer especially, covering up acne and dark eye circles will improve your appearance a lot)
    - Body Type (particularly with skimpier costumes, having the wrong body can kill it, since your body is essentially the main focus. This goes for guys too, if your costume is shirtless, you'd better start working out before that con)
-Poor quality wig (will ALWAYS look bad. Please fork out the extra money for a good one, it's worth it)

    Depends:
    - Wig color is wrong shade (depends how wrong, sometimes a slightly inaccurate shade can even look better in real life)
    - Skin Tone (depends on the person's overall appearance, some people can make it work, and others can't)
    - Gender (depends of the person's looks and crossdressing ability. I tend to see girls pulling it off better, since a lot of anime dudes look like chicks anyway)
    - Missing props (is the character still identifiable without them? If so, it might be okay)
    - Missing accessories (depends how important/noticeable they are)

It makes me so freaking happy that a lot of you are willing to overlook height.

As a short male, I sometimes find it hard to find an acceptable cosplay, as a lot of male characters are taller. While yes, I do use platform shoes for characters where it is acceptable, like my Allen Walker from D.Gray-man cosplay, for a lot you cannot do anything like this, so I just find myself not cosplaying from a lot of my favorite characters.

    But for my own breakdown
    I Don't Care About:
    Gender
    Hieght
    Skin Tone
Missing Props (Too an extent. Some are just ridiculous)
    Eyecolor

    Willing to Look Over:
Some Missing Accessories (So you forgot that on page 343 of the special edition manga that the character has green underwear.)
Footwear (As long as it's close, or isn't an important plot point)

Generally Not Willing To Look Over, but Eh, It Happens:
Eyebrow Color (It's generally very very easy to do with the $2 dollar method, is cheap and doesn't take too long. But if you're running behind and forget, or like it'd look terrible with the wig color, then it's acceptable)
Body Type (No, the 300 pound woman should not cosplay Yoko. If it's that important to you, cosplay someone else right now, and work on losing weight.)
Wig Color (A couple shades off is absolutly fine, however if you get a blonde wig or you use you're own blonde hair for a character with black hair, you're retarded.)
Hair Length (Yes, they're some characters with huge amounts of unreasonable and retarded hair. Or the character has a crazy hairstyle, as long as you tried you're best to imitate it, it's fine. But having shoulder length hair for a character with hair that goes down to their bum is poo.)

    Unacceptable:
Makeup (Unless it's this huge eccentric scar and it's a bit inaccurate, for the most part make up is easy and cheap)
Attitude (If the person in general is a shithead, or the cosplayers are all in character and you're not, or you're role-playing and you're doing a terrible job.)
    >> Anonymous 11/09/09(Mon)08:37 No.2312740
    Willing to overlook:

Height doesn't matter much to be, I'm a 6'1" girl. It can't be way off though, no short Frans for instance.

Skin tone isn't a big deal unless it's super important, again I use Fran as an example

missing props, understandably some people don't have enough time or skill to do elaborate props

missing accessories, probably wouldn't notice anyways unless it's super important to the costume

    Things that bother me:

Gender, good crossplay can be awesome but normally it throws me off

Footwear, I've seen people wearing dirty ass sneakers with costume and it totally ruins it

Wig color, a tone or two off isn't a big deal but the closer you can get the real color the better it looks

Makeup, so many people don't wear any and it ruins the illusion of animu perfection. At least always wear foundation and some kind of eye makeup.
    >> Anonymous 11/09/09(Mon)08:51 No.2312753
I overlook skin tone, height, gender (to an extent, at least bind or tuck convincingly) and even weight as long as the cosplayer in question isn't 300 lbs and wearing something they're spilling out of.

In fact, about the only thing I can't overlook to some degree is a lack of makeup. There's really no excuse not to cover up blemishes or wear a little chap stick to keep your lips from cracking.
    >> FC !LUoN15AFLU 11/09/09(Mon)08:59 No.2312762
I'm able to overlook most of those things, but some of them have acceptions.

    >Gender and/or Bodytype
I'm lumping these two together for a reason. The only time gender bothers me is when someone tries to crossplay a character they aren't suited for at all. Such as someone scrawny or girly trying to crossplay a big manly dude -- I see it all the time, and it just bothers me. But super inappropriate bodytypes bother me a lot in general.

    >Footwear
Only bothers me if someone is wearing nasty tennis shoes or giant platforms/heels with characters that don't have them.

    >Makeup
Only bothers me if they aren't wearing any makeup at all, or are wearing too much makeup for whatever character they are. (The latter happens a lot with crossplay, and it makes me rage.)

This wasn't on the list, but I see people mentioning it a lot:
    >Attitude
I don't like when people basically LARP the entire time they're in costume. Obviously, being in character for photos, skits, meetups, or briefly if someone addresses you in character, that's cool. But I fucking hate it when people are totally unable to drop character, especially if they're doing it badly. You know, the people you can't even talk to because they ARE the character. "Hey, want to run over to McDonalds really quick?" "MCDONALDS? WHAT IS THIS MCDONALDS, PEASANT?" This will totally ruin my opinion of someone and/or their costume. Someone could have a great costume and look just like the character, but it all goes out the window for me if they pull that crap.

    Completely agreed.

Ad on makeup, I almost always fail at this, but I actually think a there are a number of costumes shouldn't have the perfect skin. If I'm going to cosplay someone who lived on the street most of his life, I'm not going to cover up my acne and scars (unless they're completely taking over my face). I think most female costume require at least a little bit of makeup, but unless the guy is a sparkling bishounen or you really need to clean your face up, most male cosplay doesn't really need it.

    Let's see.

Eyecolor: That's what photoshop is for. That and some people just can't wear contacts.

Height: I'm 5'4", I've cosplayed a character that's only probably 3'. I'd rather see a guy who's a little on the short side, then see them decked out in hooker boots. You can compensate for the height difference with good placement in photos.

Skin tone: Unless it's something obviously not natural. A non blue Kisame just doesn't look right. I'd rather see a black Naruto or a white Fran then see a botched up makeup job trying to match skin tone.

Weight: If the person takes the time to fit the costume to their body. I'm chubby, but I generally try to make myself more smooth and hide the belly pudge. I've seen thick girls who do it right. But if you've got muffin top going, and you're flashing cellulite everywhere, it's not pleasent and it makes you look awful.

Hair: You real hair is generally best to be avoided, the exception is if you have hair that does ACTUALLY work. Also sometimes when the character has no bangs and all the hair is pulled back(like Scarlet Valentine in Steel ball run).

Wig: long wigs are a pain to maintain. Using a waist length wig for floor lenght hair is forgivable. The color, as long as it's within a reasonable range, it's okay. A Naruto that picks a more natural blond or one that better matches their skin tone is fine. A Naruto with mousey brain hair is just bad.

Shoes: Unless the character has hooker boots, they just look bad. That's why it always bothers me when I see Chun Li's with 4 inch platform boots. I can see with maybe a two inch heel boot.

There's plenty more. But I'd rather not keep droning on.

    My least favorite offenses:
    - Makeup (WTF, ALWAYS WEAR IT. YOU'RE BEING PHOTOGRAPHED. DUH.)
    - Body Type (fatties should not be Yoko, no.)
    - Height (Spike Spiegel is not 5'3 and Sailor Jupiter should not be the shortest cosplayer in your inner senshi group)

    Slight offenses:
    - Wig color is wrong shade (Debatable.)
    - Hair length (Practical. I can understand a Chii not wanting her hair to drag the floor and opting for butt-length.)
    - Gender (To each his or her own...)
    - Skin Tone (It shouldn't bother me, but if you have a tan, it's not like you have NO options. Do Jasmine, Pocahontas, Esmeralda, Kida, ANYONE but Snow White!! Likewise, if you're pale as fuck, why not use make-up to bronze you up for tan characters? It's easy.)
    - Missing accessories (You run out of time. It happens. Just make sure it doesn't happen NEXT time you wear the costume.)

    Doesn't bother me:
    - Footwear (Sometimes, practical or inexpensive is better than accurate. But no, Naruto should not be wearing converses.)
    - Missing props (Some people just don't have the skills. I don't think props are a necessity.)
