    hey /cgl/,

i was wondering if any of you have ever commissioned from Limebarb. How was the quality? Your quote? etc.

anon is pondering about ordering something, but obviously, if they're ridiculously overpriced, will look elsewhere.

I haven't bought from her, but I know her, and I can say from what I hear from talking to her and customers, they like her stuff, and I haven't heard any real complaints. But then, since I haven't purchased personally, I can't say for sure. Just that I haven't heard anything against her stuff.

They are waay overpriced. I asked them for a quote for Leblanc and asked for each individual item. The entire costume, Fan, wig, dress, shoes & gloves, came to about $1,500. They're good, don't get me wrong, but not THAT good.

I love the video where a mascot-style Tonberry is estimated at like $2500

also because Limebarb never wears a bra in it

    >>2286306
Wow, that's waay ridiculous. I was looking to pay about $300-500 for the dress maybe...but they estimated the dress alone at $950.

My friend ordered from her in...November or December of last year, I believe, to have a costume finished by Otakon.

Well, it never got finished. A couple of weeks up to the convention, she stopped answering her emails and was ignoring her entirely until my friend threatened to report her to the BBB.

She still doesn't have the costume, but apparently they put it in the mail this week. :/
    >> Ukraine 10/29/09(Thu)22:43 No.2286360
I bought my first costume from her, Yuuki from Vampire Knight. It took a while for the costume to come in, we got it about a week before the con. Everything was pretty well made but really ill fitting. I had to pin and pull everything in to fit better, except in the arms, where it was really tight. I don't remember exactly how much I paid, but it was a good amount.
    >> Anonymous 10/29/09(Thu)23:01 No.2286402
OP back. Those are not fantastic reviews.
    Any more?

    quick, high-quality and affordable!
    >> Anonymous 10/29/09(Thu)23:11 No.2286432
Even the photos on her site look like shoddy work. And I've seen even worse posted on here.

She made a yoko gun for someone that was basically just the shape cut out of flat wood.

Yeah, didn't she charge over $1000 just for that costume and only sent about half of it in the mail?

They're right, Limebarb's prices are overpriced. I tried asking /cgl/ the same question when I was looking for commissioners for my planned costume, and they told me to avoid it.

/cgl/ says that God Save the Queen fashion is superior to Limebarb.
    >> Anonymous 10/29/09(Thu)23:47 No.2286493
My friend bought an Elincia (Fire Emblem) dress from Limebarb, giving out her exact measurements and everything. Limebarb charged her a ridiculous price (I don't know the exact amount myself) and when my friend got it, the dress was terrible. The entire thing looked rushed and was very ill-fitting. The fabrics were the wrong color and it was . . . . it was just awful.
    >> Anonymous 10/29/09(Thu)23:49 No.2286495
A friend of mine got one of her deluxe versions of a costume commissioned by her. She missed the deadline and so he didn't have it for the con he wanted it for. And last I heard she'd finally sent it out but it was taking suspiciously long to get to him. Not sure if he ever got his costume. I should check on that.

OP here's a link to commissioner reviews on coscom, limebarb included: http://www.cosplay.com/showthread.php?p=1764079#post1764079

    Very mixed reviews.

Bought from her, costume looks great. Expensive but great.

    Shipping is another story though.

I asked for a quote on her berserker outfits, each individual piece of the costume was between 1000 and 2500, armor wise. Thats bullshit. She overcharges, doesn't really pay attention to your measurements, and gets orders mixed up.

You also forgot to mention she only does her best work for friends and herself. It's hit or miss on everyone else's commissions.
    >> Anonymous 10/30/09(Fri)19:40 No.2288407
I wouldnt waste my time with limebarb. Her quality isn't that great and there extremely overpriced. 1500 for leblanc is ridiculous. Your best bet would be a seamstress in your town. They can actually make it to fit you not your measurements. And it'd be cheaper.
    >> Anonymous 10/30/09(Fri)20:09 No.2288449
I got a quote for a Warrior Rikku costume and the final amount including wig/boots etc. (no sword) came to about $1000.

Costumes are fine; but I'm not willing to pay that for cosplay.

    >>2288449

1000 without the sword!? OTL who the fuck would commision from her.
    >> Anonymous 10/30/09(Fri)20:12 No.2288457
I heard when limebarb gets busy, she raises prices on costumes so that way it's worth it to rush and overbook herself.
    >> Anonymous 10/30/09(Fri)20:37 No.2288495
    >>2288457

She also doesn't make the costumes herself. She hires out to local people she knows. It's why the quality isn't even. She hires friends who often don't know how to sew very well just to get things done.

Thank you for this thread, OP. I'd discovered Limebarb a couple days ago and was thinking of asking them for my next cosplay. I believe I will now reconsider, seeing what is already posted here.

Question: Does anyone know other commissioners who are affordable but have nice quality in terms of material/fitting/ect?

OP here, thanks a lot, this was really helpful. But still, It ranges from A to F-, so I wonder what went on there.

And after reading a few reviews, they talk about how they had to return their costume to get a better one in return. Weird, I think.

Like >>2286492 said, God Save the Queen fashion has had an average of good reviews. I heard they ask you which type of fabrics you want to use so that determines the price.

that is because the ones giving the better reviews, are her friends.

she is known to only make decent stuff for her closer friends, and makes shit stuff for everyone else.
