The Hilton is no place for large mobs of weeaboos. That and a king for cosplay chess didn't know how to play chess. HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW HOW TO PLAY CHESS!!!???

    Oh yay :D
The actual con was pretty fucking terrible this year. I had fun chilling with my homies though, and the /cgl/ meetup was pretty awesome. I'll post my horror stories later after the thread kicks off a bit more and I get some food.

    NO KIDDING.

Seriously, and all the hotel staff members were complete dicks to all the atendees.

I had a great time seeing everybody and such, but man it was hard to have fun with them yelling at you all the time. :C

And after what happened at the swimsuit panel..
oh man, I thought I was going to loose it.

    >>2125067

What happened at the swimsuit panel?

Also, I have this to say about the Hilton: it was simply too vertical. Not enough space horizontally, and you had to do too much running around up and down stairs or waiting in line for elevators to get much of anywhere.

And would it have killed them to label the panel rooms in the Executive Tower as such in the guide?
    >> Anonymous 09/07/09(Mon)20:57 No.2125116
    >>2125099

There was a ton of drama because of a miss-communication of the age for the panel. it's usually for people that are 18+ but for some reason they had it labled for 13+
so when the people started going up there, you know, they did what they normally do in swimsuit panels, the girls acted like complete sluts and the guys were wearing speedos (which last time I checked were 13+) and the crazy bitch running the thing shut the entire panel down because one of the contestents jumped off the stage and accidentally was too sexual in doing so? it was the horse-mask guy...
    I don't know, it's hard to explain.

    basically a ton of rage ensued and the staff wouldn't allow the people to do the panel even though it wasn't really that bad at all. x.x;;;

AND I completely agree with the whole panel thing!
The panel my friends and I ran was in the Exectutive tower.
The great thing about that tower was that none of the staff cared what was going on because it wasn't the main building. XDD

Mislabeling at this convention seems to be a major problem.

The con was awesome this year, just because I hung out with really cool people and got wasted each night. Not having to pay for a badge was a plus too.

The people on the kcon forums complain about the hotel staff treating them like kids but its like... what the fuck do you expect?
Kids are TOO hyper- give respect, get respect.

I didn't go to any panels. Went to the dance when my DJ friend played and went to gaming. Got banned from Karaoke... I enjoyed myself but I didn't do too much connected to the con.

I heard that some girls in Naruto swimsuits were making out with each other which is why that lady freaked out.

    >>2125062 here again though, and now that I have snacks, I will share stories. God damn, I have never had problems with so many creepers at one convention in my whole entire life. I had a big, hairy guy in a shitty Totoro costume come up to me when I was chilling with my friends and say "I need to go and talk to you about your costume in privet, and you have to come with me alone." I was wearing a pretty skanky costume and apparently some people in the Yoji room wanted to talk to me about it but god damn, he never told me what the fuck was going on and kept saying I HAD TO GO WITH HIM and staring at my tits every time he talked to me. If I remember correctly, he told me "I can't tell you what's going on because I'm a boy." all while just staring down into my cleavage.

Everyone running the game room was having a pretty rough time and pulling long ass shifts and ended up just drinking on shift. My buds who did that were going to tell me stories about that later.

There was also a guy chilling in there that had some kind of mental disorder who was just walking around doing Hadokens at people. He started going around and poking random people in the game room and when staff came to talk to him about it he flipped the fuck out and they took away his badge.

And now I'm going to the grocery store so more stories later.

Kumoricon was the first anime convention I've been to. I was not impressed and I don't know if I will be going back next year. At least, not without someone else to go with.

Also heard from a buddy of mine who's one of the head Yoji that the hotel security locked all of the fire exits and made it so the elevators didn't go to floors 2 or 3. I saw some poor people with canes having to trek up and down stairs.

Yeah, they were being insane sluts...but the lady came up and said that they had to all clean their acts up or she was going to cancel the panel...and then when the guy jumped off the stage I guess it was the last straw?

    >>2125168
Yeah, they had a lot of that BS going on the whole con. At one point at like 3 in the morning after the rave, one of my guy friends was sitting there in the lobby without a shirt on and the security guard came up to him and started yelling at him for not being fully clothed. He told him that if he saw him without a shirt on again he'd take him to head security and get his badge removed. Complete bullshit.
    >> Anonymous 09/07/09(Mon)21:28 No.2125221
Apparently the hotel staff kicked 40 plus con goers out of their rooms Saturday. When there were a bunch of drunken assholes lurking around and being sleazy, they just got asked to keep it down and go back to their rooms.
The convention was so enraged by how the hotel staff was treating everyone that they broke off the two year contract they had with the Hilton. So HOPEFULLY next year the location wont be utter shit.

Fuck I'm so upset about the swimsuit competition. It was my first time attending it, and I was expecting the usual lulz.

The fat bitch flipped shit because of Horse Heads speedo, the girl on girl, audience shouting profanities and one chicks name being FagKing (or something along those lines). Now maybe it's just me but I think I've seen everything in PG-PG13 movies that happened in that panel (even PG13 movies allow you to say 'fuck' once). But the worst part is that she yelled and bitched forever at Hard Gay, blaming the miscommunication on him when it was the con's fault, telling him that the time he was scheduled for they refused to be 18+.

I heard the bitch got cut from the con soon after and one of the top guys officially apologized personally to Hard Gay. I just hope he hosts the swimsuit contest in the future at Kumori Con. =/ They should have just kicked out the contestants that violated the PG13 code (however bullshit it was) or just made it 18+ and apologized. Would have made for more delays but fuck there were so many delays already.
    >> Anonymous 09/07/09(Mon)21:37 No.2125256
I didn't have much problem with the Staff, but I just don't think that the Hilton was all that a good location in the first place. Everything was way too spread out. But the rooms were pretty kick ass.

Yeah, I'm pretty good friends with Hard Gay, and he's actually the one that got yelled at by the security guard here >>2125220

On Friday myself and several others were taken, at a run, from the front of the pre-registration line aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall the way around the building, back up the staircase and to the end of the line.

After a good ten minutes of bitching at various people because of our lost place in line, we were stuck into the end of the line that was allowed to be upstairs. Everyone else was shunted down to the other registration line.

That was something I rather would not like to experience.

I think it was just him getting on stage again. When they covered him up it wasn't a joke (even though everyone including Hard Gay thought it was) and the moment he got on stage again was the last straw. He jumped off the stage _because_ he was told to get off again and that the panel was cancelled. It was a jump of RAGE.

Sucks because I believe it was Horse Head's last Swimsuit Competition.

Too lazy to read through all of this before I post (sleepy, yay), but all I've gotta say is fuck that girl today in whatever goddamned Bleach costume she was in, playing CaramelDansen and surprise glomping people from behind.

    Fuck her.

I told that bitch off as politely as I could in that situation, and I don't care if she thinks I'm a bitch for doing so, you do NOT tackle someone from behind with no warning, shoving speakers in their ears. You do not. That is assault, and she's lucky I didn't drag her little ass down to a friendly security officer.

-"Smudge-face L" (or whatever we're calling him), stories were also told at the cgl meet
-The chick who walked around today going "FREE HUGS." and stared at you when you didn't want one. She came to the TF2 group I was with a total of three times.

Holy shit, just got home from Kumori, can't wait to read through this thread.

    <------THIS SHIT AGAIN

Except, this year they apparently held a meeting to decide how to crank the faggotry up to eleven. What they came up with was that they would give the badges on little clippy things, and sell lanyards for EXTRA. Then they would require that your badge be at chest level at all times, regardless of whether or not you had a place to clip the thing onto.

Also, wearing Captain Falcon, some old hotel staff guy told me to take off my helmet. I asked why and he said that for security reasons, your full face must be in full view at all times.

Apologies in advance, since I assume both of these topics have already been covered to some length in this thread, but I had to rage anyway.

Did get in some decent SSB matches with some people though. The people running the console room were pretty accommodating when I brought my N64. Gotta give 'em that.

Really, they made you clip it always on your chest? I had it in various places, and they never cared. I think I was checked once while going into the dealer's room, too. They seemed pretty chill this year.
Last year I got yelled at because the side that showed my badge kept flipping around because those lanyards are shit.

So, she came up to my friends and I today playing that in our faces, kept entering one of their personal bubbles, so my friend would politely push her away. She then would just come right back up and do it again in my friends face. Finally my buddy stuck his Yojimbo badge in her face and she left.
My boyfriend and I ended up sitting on the same Max as her on the way back home and she was talking to some Hispanic lady going "Does your child speak Mexican? Does your child speak Mexican? My family let me go to con by myself because I'm a prodigy child and they buy me whatever I want and give my sister nothing because I wash the dishes." I was trying so hard not to laugh.

Then when my friend and I asked the con chair (whom was a total sweetheart to us) where it was going to be he said the best bet is to just watch the website since everything is up in the air right now.

I doubt I'll go next year if it's at the same location. I had fun because of friends but so much stuff was BS.

I felt like I was in a worm hole, every time we tried to move away from the lobby we got forced back, either by rude commands or just closing staircases and elevators. I was yelled at when I went to go to the ballroom and told the second level was open. Only to go there and be yelled at for going to the second level and that I was mistaken in believing the ballroom was closed...

I was also 'told' to keep my badge hanging around my neck at all times even though I clearly showed it every time I entered a room.

This was my first year at Kumoricon and most likely my last. I was told repeatedly that this was "the worst year ever" and "it was amazing last year, you should have come then" but, well...I didn't, I went this year :/

Oh goodness, prepare for a long rant!

Staff was such a fucking bitch this year, it felt like they were so unprepared on how to deal with people. Waiting in the upstairs lobby for my friends to get their badge was awful. I had already come much earlier and had my badge already, but my friend arrived late so my boyfriend and I decided to go with her to get her badge. At the time there is no one walking in this area, no traffic what-so-ever, no lines that can be seen, no signs saying otherwise. Generally nothing that could possibly be misconstrued as useful information. My friend walks up to the pre reg desk, my bf and I hang back a little to wait for her and stand politely up against a wall, out of the way of anyone who might come by (no one that we could see) and my boyfriend starts to clean his glasses. An angry staff member comes up to us out of nowhere and yells
"YOU TWO NEED TO MOVE NOW!"
"ok ok! we just were waiting for the person behind us!"
My boyfriend attempts to hurry with his glasses because he cannot see without them, not even a little, but in the three seconds it was taking him to put them on a different staff member who had been watching stomps over to us and yells
“NO, YOU NEED TO MOVE RIGHT NOW!”
I tell her “he can’t just move because he can’t fucking see!” and we walk another ten feet away thoroughly out of the way of the hundreds of nonexistent people in the nonexistent line only to turn around and not see my friend who had been getting her badge.

We had no idea what happened to her! Twenty minutes later, after having been asked to “MOVE OUT OF THE WAY!” three times, she finds us in the downstairs lobby to tell us that she was sent to the back of a line and was given quite a bit of shit for having the “gall” to just walk up to the desk. (that looked like it had no line, and for the ten minutes my boyfriend and I waited around no one came up to!)

I had fun at the little bit of the /cgl/ meet I could attend, I left ay early to get ready for the masquerade, which ended up not being worth it at all. The dance sucked and very much resembled a high school prom, and my boyfriend ended up having to leave before we could dance even once (much like my real high school prom, but that is another story). After all that work I did on his hair too, not to mention the line we waited in, and the walk from the waterfront that I did twice in high heels, once at a jog... After that I went up to the 21+ karaoke with a few people and my 20 year old friend headed off to the yaoi panel. I bought a drink and signed up for a few songs when she texts me to say that the panel was capped, I couldn't just leave her alone so I chugged my drink and a friend's (she couldn't finish it) so we could leave.

You would think two shots would at least make you feel warm, but whatever they were serving up there was weak as shit, the beer I am less than a third of the way through is having more effect than that stuff.

"uh, I have to use the restroom?"

My boyfriend tries to follow me,
"YOU CAN WAIT BEHIND THE LINE!"
"but I have to go to!"
YOU HAVE TO WAIT BEHIND THE LINE!"
    "But I need to pee!"
"well fine then you can go but I will be watching for you two!"
seriously? What did they think we were going to do? Fuck? Because if that is what they were worried about then they should have been watching the 23rd floor women’s room because oh man someone was goin’ at it so loud Saturday night! DAMN!

Really the only fun times I had that were directly con related were the live 18+ fan fiction readings (funny as shit) and the karaoke, which is saying something because I normally am way too scared to sing or anything. All the good times I had were with my friends, a good portion of that time was outside of the con or in the restroom bitching about staff. The best part was that we were the last to enter the room so there was no constant flow and there was plain fucking obvious room for us. as the con staff at the door still wasnt letting us in we told em that we were the last and no morew were comming. some lackey faggot off to the side says "this is the con chair and what he says is whats going to happen and you cant get in w/o passes" so they phone their hookerslut upstair and get the ok. to top it off the competion was poor for the most part. Anime Hunters are awesome as always.

I mean really it wasn't a bad idea, but seriously there was no phone reception and no internet or wireless anything of any kind, god damn it got really annoying to have to go all the way up and out of there every time I needed to make a call or check my texts.

Thank goodness I am not handy caped or older. There was NO way a person in a wheel chair could make it through any of that! I was up in karaoke and there was a guy in a wheel chair hanging out in the back unable to go into the karaoke room because of the set of stairs.

god damn that con must have sucked for him! what the hell was he supposed to do when the elevators were shut down?!

This con will go down in history as a day of infamy.
I seriously cannot remember the last convention I went to that was THIS shitty. It feels like they actually tried to make it as discouraging an event as possible.
I live in Vancouver WA, and go to Kumoricon every year, and this isn't normal at all. K-con is usually one of the better hole-in-the-wall cons.
    This year was absolutely horrible.
Something that no one has yet mentioned is the fact that there were maybe one or two panels worth attending, and half of them got shut down by hotel staff.
There was seriously nothing going on. I spent WAAAAY too much of my time wandering around and buying things then I should have. It was really sad.
    >> teagueful !/5sRzdsAd2 09/08/09(Tue)04:20 No.2126538
HOLY SHIT this con was a disaster. Despite that, I still had fun.

I was cosplaying Orenji from Code Geass for most of the weekend and I kept getting told to take my mask off, when DERP DERP it was glued to my face.

On Friday, after I had just gotten my badge and bag of junk, I was standing around trying to clip my badge on when the staff told me that I needed to move like three times.I finally found a place I could stand and get my shit together while I waited for friends and not get bothered by staff, and I stood there for a while as I was trying to find a decent place for my badge. It was the first time I was in the costume because I had just finished it 10 minuets prior to putting it on, and I dropped my badge a few times. I bent down to pick it up off the floor and when I stood up and looked around I found a photographer kneeling with his camera aimed at me and his thumb up.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO TAKE A GODDAMNED PICTURE LET ME KNOW FUUUUUUUUU GODDAMN HOLY SHIT WHY DID HE HAVE TO FUCKING TAKE A PICTURE AS MY FAT ASS WAS BENT OVER TRYING TO GET SHIT OFF THE FLOOR.

And then I was about to pass out and I was trying to get on the elevator to my room and nobody would let me on. I couldn't have climbed 17 floors to get to my room to take my 5 layers of clothing off. I ended up waiting about half an hour, panting and fanning my face with my sleeve and being generally out of it and nobody was willing to try to squeeze me in when my costume didn't take up space and I just needed to go undress and chill.

Also, apparently nobody had no idea where the hell any of the photoshoots were. Generally annoying when we have to spend half an hour looking for a place to take pictures.

I don't think I've ever been so stressed at a con before. D: Goddamn.

the K-con of 2007 in vanwa was nice.
The location was nice and it thinned out the shitty narudo, cat ear wearing fucks from the dedicated, spent time on costume, cosplayers. Cause 16 year olds are too scared to drive over bridges and parents think it is too far.

The entire convention was rather dissapointing as a whole, basically most of the con goers that would have made it worth going to were at either PAX or Dragoncon, leaving it as a flood of undesirables save from a few shining beacons that reminded us of what a real con should be like D; I have a ton of pictures I'll upload here in the next day or two, as soon as I can actually find some free time. My camera was recording when the Swimsuit competition was cancelled, and when the entire crowd started booing Ms. It's not PG-13!

Overall, I would say that the highlight of the entire convention for me was the fact that I was able to sign up for Sakuracon for an extra 5 dollars off, giving me something to look forward to after this fiasco.

I would like to appologize for the way any of you were treated by Hotel or even Con staff. This is not the correct venue for this kind of thing, and we know this now. Please keep in mind though, that we will be blackballed if we break contract with the hotel.

Also, keep in mind, that Kumoricon is one of, if not the largest, conventions in Oregon, and the hotel was clearly not ready for that, or the kind of people that something like this entails. Believe me, we warned them constantly, and apparently they didn't listen well enough.

again, everyone here at con staff would like to apologize for the behavior of the Hotel staff. also, staff members who went supercreep, and were reported, are getting their badges pulled and being banned.

Oh, and the wardrobe problems, what with the creepy staff guy staring at your tits, that was because the female Yoji that was supposed to deal with the problem was TOO FUCKING LAZY TO GET OFF OF HER ASS AND DO HER FUCKING JOB!

    again sorry.

I just sent a message to Hawkeye (the lady that called me up there) to report the guy. If it's not going to get taken care of by her, I'd really love to know who to send my message to because I would really love to get this guy in trouble.

And it's nice to know that some con staff goes here, I really had no problems with any of you, minus the creepy Totoro guy. I just will hope that something happens where you guys can get out of that hotel because I'm never going there again.

I was really irritated that it took 4 fucking months for Kumoricon to get back to us about our table in the dealer's room. We had to send them two emails REMINDING THEM that they were supposed to get back to us about the dealer's room. It took a total of 5 months for us to get booked in the dealer's room, which is ridiculous. In our row alone, there were 3 completely empty stalls, so it's not like they were horribly busy. Another vendor I talked to was ignored in the same way. By the time we had been confirmed for the dealer's room, pre-reg had closed and I had bought a badge thinking that something, ANYTHING at this con would be worth going to. So there's $40 wasted.

When my coworker went down to check in for the table, the staff was horrible and rude, yelling at him for absolutely nothing. The dealer's room being in the garage made it impossible for me to contact my boss (who was working a booth at PAX), or anyone for help. So, that was also fucking horrible.

The Dealer's room staff was very hesitant to give me an extra badge for our table (we only got 2) so that I could have someone help me carry our shit out of the convention center. The same staff lady put up a fight when my overweight friend with a knee that was fucked up from a car crash asked to use the elevator because her knee was a swollen mass of pain visible through her pants.

Kumoricon would not refund the badge that I bought. I never used it, or even checked the damn thing in. I should have, and sold the thing to some underaged kid.

Kumoricon, I feel betrayed and offended. It was my favorite con, my home-con, the first one I ever attended. Unless something changes, I don't see myself going back. Going to PAX the day before reminded me of how cons really should be. Well run, friendly, helpful staff, great venue, NO FUCKING REGISTRATION LINE FOR PEOPLE WHO PREREGISTER.

    >>Hawkeye=TOO FUCKING LAZY TO GET OFF OF HER ASS AND DO HER FUCKING JOB!
you are better off talking to her boss, Rob Trotter or Brandon De Vore, because she has a propensity for shielding super-creepy staff, because, honestly, the Yoji staff is often of the any-breathing-body variety, and she is equally weird.
this will probably change after elections in October.
The strangest thing, is that while most creeper complaints are about Yojis, they are also the most complimented group at Rant and Rave. This makes no fucking sense what-so-ever, and only serves to boost their already inflated ego's

IF YOU WANT CHANGE AT KUMORICON, FOR GOD SAKE, SIGN UP FOR STAFF!
