EVERYONE TURN ON TLC RIGHT NOW. There is a (black) lolita on What Not to Wear. Stacy said to her, "Let us throw away all these COSTUMES from JAPAN and help you!" The girl said she became interested in lolita after studying Japanese (though I have a feeling it was the other way around) and tried to defend the look, but they just laugh.

The show is on til 10.

    Agreed.

I mean, I'd love some advice on style, I dress very teenager, jeans and baby doll t-shirts, I'd love an infuse of "grown up" style since I honestly don't know what looks good on me.

But if they started throwing my clothes out? I'd claw their eyes out, I bought these clothes because I liked them. I'm not going to dress adult every day, I want to have myself in there too, I just want some "oh this makes your body look good, this color looks good on you" advice.

Also, while I'm at it, allow me to clarify. Their clothes are not "thrown away" most get donated to charities. When they pick clothes that are deemed innapropriate on Day 2, they are returned to the stores.

People are nominated and picked by What Not to Wear producers. The rest is filmed and edited. A lot of people on the show have contacted Stacey and Clinton after their filming is over anyway.

There was a cosplayer on the show before, but they agreed off camera not to touch anything costume related since it was a hobby.

I wouldn't say she had a lot of originality before. She had like, 3 lolita dresses and a pair of rocking horse shoes. Her other stuff was all over sized and boring. I thought she would have picked up more at the first store, the clothes all had a cute feminine details that hinted to lolita, but she said every damn thing was "weird." A person who dresses in lolita calling modern clothing weird is really something.

Anyway, now that she's off the show it's not like she can't buy what she wants anymore. She's perfectly capable of getting some new BURANDO stuff, but at least now she has a closet full of basics she can wear anywhere and not look, well... weird.

Stacy's always a rude cuntrag, so there's no difference there. And honestly, I like classic lolita,(though I don't dress in it) but I think she was atrocious at it. Her clothes didn't fit properly and she had no idea how to coordinate things outside of what is presented to her directly. So in the long run I think that this is the best for her lolita butthurt aside.

i disagree. im a long time fan of the show, and while the majority of the outfits fit into the mainstream, well, one, it's their JOB to get people into the mainstream because they're either way too far out there or they don't care at all and have 0 style to begin with; two, they do often take people's personal styles into consideration... they gave this slobby rocker chick all this shit with like zippers and buckles, a biker chick some leather stuff with studs, and a scene girl skinny jeans and blue hair; and three, considering S&C have worked in the fashion industry for some years, they DO know more than pretty much all the contestants, so of course they are going to sound like know-it-alls when they are trying to tell a girl who wears ugly hot topic lolita that she looks like hell but has a lot of potential.

Honestly, I don't think she looked like a hoebag after. I've seen people in hoe like clothing and the clothing they chose were not it at all. Like I said downthread, there were frilly stuff she could've chosen, and she has looked at and passed it over as "weird". Honestly, that chick has serious problems that she's hiding behind via lolita clothing. I mean she's content with wearing petticoats and bloomers and a simple ruffled black blouse with a ruffled neck is weird? She is seriously freaking annoying.

Experience and knowing your shit is all well and good, but being in the fashion industry does not mean that you automatically have more or better style than someone else. It's just different. Fashion isn't about conforming or watering down someone's creativity, it is what you make it. One person's godawfulwtf is another person's FABULOUS.

I get that the object is to bring them into more mainstream fashion, but the way that it's presented is just really pretentious imo.

Most people aren't looking at that though. They're hearing "lolita+thrown out" and getting instantly butthurt without looking at it objectively. She has no idea how to dress appropriately, and I don't think that she is a good representative for the fashion at all. They were jackasses in not trying to understand it a bit more, but honestly if she were my only exposure I probably would've acted that way too.

She works for the Red Cross. She was in scrubby clothes and a Red Cross smock passing out bottled water to firefighters rushing off to a scene. They said she was also public relations, but being in some classy get-up is obviously not conducive to her job if she's running around helping firefighters.

I'm pretty sure they said the firefighter thing was a training session. In any case lolita isn't appropriate either, and she could've (and had the opportunity to get) a decent pair of jeans that fit (the one she tried on doesn't count because it was obviously too small) and some nice shirts. I highly doubt that she works in a hands on environment anyway, I'm thinking more along the lines of dealing with meetings etc., since they would have taken stuff getting dirty into account when they were choosing clothing for her.
    >> Anonymous 08/08/09(Sat)00:40 No.2027339
I think that Stacey and Clinton are obviously against any alternative style. They're never creative enough for my taste. The pinup girl fashion can easily be sexy, but not trashy. Why not suggest it? Often the skirts are long and full like a loli skirt.

I hate what they did to the girl's hair and I'm glad that she went back to an afro near the end. The hairstyle aged her. It also was WNTW's way of demanding that black women have white hairstyles. I honestly thought that she was 20 and not 30!

Yes, she was super sassy and rude but I doubt that most of the soccer moms on WNTW have ever been homeless. All sorts of horrors are inflicted upon homeless women. She certainly has emotional issues and identity issues to work through. I wish her the best of luck... even if she doesn't want to be loli any more.

Except for the last dress, her clothing was bland and styless... yuck. I've seen better transformations. As long as it's flattering I wouldn't mind at all if she went back to her old clothing style.

Shitty Hooptie? NO PROBLEM DAWG, WE GIVE YOU 17 LCD SCREENS, EVEN UNDER YA CAR AND ON YA BUMPERS!! (Pimp My Ride, Pimp My Truck, etc.)

House a fucking mess? Do a forced clean, let complete idiots remodel the rooms, and don't solve what was the main problem in the first place. (Clean Sweep, Clean House)

Well, in the end, they didn't get enough money at the yard sale and instead of a sofa, she got some sitting mats. I laughed my ass off.

Still, Clean House and Clean Sweep only solved one aspect of the problem as to why people gather crap. It never deals with the people and offers them professional help. All the show seems to be is become a "reboot" of a persons life to fuck it up again.

Plus, I RAGED everytime I saw perfectly good a/or recyclable junk on the toss pile of Clean Sweep. One episode a couple threw out 200 VHS tapes.

Guys, shove it into the VHS player and hit REC on a non-existent channel on SP setting (Easy way to "Erase" a VHS tape) a/or sell in bulk to someone who can use them!!

I dunno. I do think Clean House does try to get to the root of the problem but continued counseling is another matter. For instance, in some episodes, some people become pack rats because someone they loved died and they couldn't bear to part with anything. The hostess would sit down with them and have a talk before the cleaning would even begin. Of course not everything is salvageable or could be reuse because then the house would still be a mess. At least Clean House has a yard sale instead of just throwing things out. Things that are not sold gets given to charity. And they do reuse a few of the old furniture. It's gets sanded down given a fresh coat.

Plus one of my friends developed quite the racket when she bought books at bargain basement prices, and then donated them claiming 10% of the books original value as a tax deduction. Too bad Borders and B&N doesn't discount their shit as easily as they used to.

    >>Plus, they use the yard sale for psychological leverage. The more old junk you give, the better new junk you get, etc. Sad to say, but people won't give up stuff just for charity.

I would, just to at least rid me of the sight of seeing my (now discarded) items, and not dealing with idiot morons who think it's "fair" to offer me a quarter for something marked at $5.

Plus IIRC, a recent study says that people actually develop a want for items when they touch items. So the urge to keep items I wanna get rid of is too tempting.

True but a tax deduction in not exactly cash. Depending on their tax burden, I could mean they still owe taxes but just less. With a yard sale, you're guaranteed cash. Though, you're right about the tactile touch making people want to keep their stuff.

The scene girl episode was awful.
She DJ'd at like a goth club or something and they told her fishnets, black clothes and odd make up wasn't appropriate for that so they gave her the typical "evening wear" they give everyone and called it good.
I'm sure the poor girl would have gotten laughed out of the club if she wore that.

the clothes get DONATED. on clean house the stuff that doesn't sell gets DONATED.
You know, CHARITY. How the hell are you gonna say charity is bad? And on Clean House (idk about clean sweep) they put the money from the yard sale towards new furniture and shit.

    >>2029096
I haven't seen that one, the one I was referring to had a girl who was an interior designer and she just had a lot of Forever 21 type hipster stuff. Like, hoodies with little skulls on them, Chucks, shit like that.

Clean Sweep had two Yard Sale formats.

When they began, the couples worked together to sell the items and made bank.

Sometime later, the show turned to this "competition" format, where both of them chose one saved item they hated from the other, and the couple fought each other to see who would make the most money and save their item the other hated. The looser saw their item given to charity.

The money wasn't used to pay for the remodel IIRC. It was more of a "personal satisfaction" thing.

Also, learn to read you stupid moron. >>2028853 and >>2028918 obviously understands the donation aspect.

At the end of the episode she said that she got some good work clothes out of the show but that was it. She said she was going to rebuy alot of the stuff they threw away to wear when shes not working.

I hate when people whine and bitch about getting rid of their shit on Clean House. Didn't you call them so they'd come help you clean out your fucking pigsty? Who the fuck needs 300 Precious Moments figures?
