Why can't cons last longer than 3 or 4 days? It never seems like enough.

    Money.

Because some of us have jobs and are lucky to get off on Friday for this nonsense

I wonder that too; they should last like a week or so. More people would have the chance to go and shit.

Seems like most con workers are volunteers.

Would *you* want to work for free for a week?

They could rotate volunteers. Plenty of people wouldn't mind taking on the responsibility.

what events are you gonna have for seven days? Even SDCC couldnt come up with seven days of panels

.. You would -want- to spend a whole week around the people at a convention?
    >> Anonymous 07/25/09(Sat)10:45 No.1992288
Dealers and industry generally agree it's not worth it to go more than three days.
    >> Kabuki Mouse !mg0D1lMhlQ 07/25/09(Sat)11:01 No.1992310
Conventions take tens of thousands of dollars to put on. Sometimes even hundreds of thousands. Adding even one extra day means increasing costs substantially, which means registration price goes up as well as how much money the sponsors have to pitch in.

And since most attendees, exhibit hall businesses, and special guests have busy lives, a weekend/extended weekend is as much as you can ask of them.

Sometimes I wonder if Sundays even count. It always seems like the con is over Saturday night, because the con isn't open as long Sunday and everyone has to check out.

Most conventions are grossly understaffed because people don't want to volunteer.

Anime Expo is a four day con, along with AnimeFest in Dallas.

3 days is plenty for me.
    >> Anonymous 07/25/09(Sat)14:04 No.1992548
Four days is perfect. Do you know how fucking tired you would be if it was a week long? Plus cons are just enough days for me to work over time and take days off without getting screwed over when the con is done.

AX for me lasted a week. Jimi, NinjAttourney, and Feather stayed at my place the day before day 0 and left the Day after the last day.

I agree. I am always sad when a convention ends, especially since I spend so long preparing for it. But I can hardly function for the week after it. I think four days (if you include Thursday) is just about all my body and wallet can take.

Anime Expo takes place at a convention center. It doesn't travel along with you in spirit wherever you go.

And yes, I actually have friends. I don't need to rely on people I hardly know on the internet to come stay with me so I can label online acquaintances as "friends".

My endurance can only last 4 days max. I really go all out to enjoy my con which includes socializing with other anime fans, being invited to photoshoots and having dinner with people from the convention. Outside of this, just because of simple con antics I don't usually go to bed till like 3 AM on a given night and wake up at 8 AM due to my damn body clock. Multiply that level activity over the course of 4 days and throw in the cost of food and you got yourself a very financially and physically taxing endeavor. As much as I love cons I can't see myself wanting to stay in that area for a week on account some of the magic the event has cause you can only do so much there.

Is it that people don't wanna volunteer, or that becoming a volunteer is too hard? I never looked into it.

    >>1992627
You probably live with your parents too, and everyone's had a sleepover/party at their house at some point.

In England, anime cons last for three weeks. It's more like a market than it is a convention.
