all about ala so much more friendly to the con goer than other cons

Biggest complaint I had with Katsucon was it was so bloody cramped it was impossible to do anything. Though they're moving hotels so my group's giving it another try.

They had a blast and using the video screen (if you're considering the masquerade) is fantastic.

Katsucon will not be Katsucon next year. There was an over haul on all the staffers. Who knows if there will even be a con next year. Best bet is to go to ALA. I am sure less drama there compared to Katsu.

I'll agree with everyone else ITT. ALA is the better con...easily. Go there instead.

It's going to be at the National Harbor this year, but not really accessable via the Washington Metro. Still I probably will not go since I will be going to Ohayocon as the two cons are three weeks apart plus I will be in Washington D.C. the week before for CPAC. Almost every year CPAC and Katsucon are in different weeks in February!

I hope for the best for this con.

Katsucon is in a huge 4 star hotel this year and looks pretty pimp. The con itself usually blows, and I can't see it changing. However, if you just show up to hang out with bros., drink, and cosplay, you should have a good time.

Katsucon wants to take you to the Gaylord.

Internal staff drama aside, just look at the place. Even if the con sucks, there's plenty of space to hang and cosplay, unlike last year.

Problem is that to reserve it, you have to pay $196 (read: one night stay) as a deposit. Also it is accessible by public transport, but it's going to take you a metrorail and a 20 minute metrobus trip to get to the national harbor.

But the place is XBOX HUEG!

Funny how most people here are saying Katsucon (or at least the convention itself) blows, yet year after year (including this year), I keep hearing from several people who've attended say they had a great time at Katsucon.

because the people who go are amazing and the hotel used in '07/'08 was prime for hangouts

They crammed way too many people into the hotel this year and it suffered greatly.
I hope to god it moves to the GAYLORD next year.

ALA for me. G/F and I are doing some elaborate costumes, so flying is outta the question, and the six-hour drive to LA (norcal here) is already bad enough.
