I for one come to /cgl/ for advie, which this board is awesome for; almost no matter what you're doing, you can get some advice and constructive criticism.

/v/ is very opinionated and fickle, but they'll generally help you after 10 or so posts of asshattery. And trust me you don't have to be a great gamer to frequent /v/. Often times it's quite the opposite.

This is old. The rest of 4chan already had a poll and voted that /cgl/ was the worst board over two years ago. There have been many movements to have it deleted.

Yeah, most other boards, and especially the big three (/a/, /co/, and /v/) have their own tripfags too, but they don't seem to be as closely connected as the tripfags on /cgl/, and even if they are, they keep it somewhere else and let very little of their personal connections into the main boards. /cgl/ tripfags shamelessly create their own threads and have their own stupid AIM conversations right on the board which encourages drama and hate from other posters here. After a while- and especially right after larger conventions- the idea of posting cosplay becomes completely irrelevant as the threads devolve into circlejerks that could easily, easily be taken somewhere else. It's basically become a small little community for a handful of self-absorbed posters that piss anonymous posters off so much that they violently retaliate, and the board devolves back into shit.

The first time I came here I made the mistake of thinking this was a board for cosplay pics. I made a thread about sexy cosplay chicks and ended up getting 1 picture of pikminlink with some girl claiming she was a goddess, some ugly sailor moon girl another girl was a fan of, and about 30+ posts of women arguing with each other and saying that the hot chick I posted was a slut.

It's really sad when you have to go to /v/ just to find occassional pics of good looking girls in costume.

I'm not even a cosplay fan and that's likely why I don't get why people continue to bitch and whine about others. Half the time it's saying "she's HAWT" from the guys and saying she's a nice person like they'll actually get them to notice them, and "she's a bitch" from the gals regardless of their jealousy - it's all about attention I've seen. I haven't copslayed, nor do I have a desire to do so (since I'll never pull anything off) and being in Blighty I don't even know of any cons.
Why is there so much drama here, aside from the obvious suggestion that it's 90% odd female here?

Yes, as a person who regularly visits most of the other boards on a fairly regular basis, I can say that the other boards DO have more content.

The boards that actually at like imageboards (/c/, /cm/, /e/, /d/, etc.) are good because they just post pictures and that's it. Because there's constantly a steady stream of new content, people generally don't have much to bitch about.

I may be biased, but of the more discussion-oriented boards, /co/ is the best because along with the discussion, there's been a recent trend of posting entire issues of comics and stuff, which is always nice. Things have been a bit rocky there as of late, but it's summer, so that's to be expected. /v/ is always a bit angry, but at least they're on top of most industry news, which makes them pretty useful. Also, they tend to come up with hilarious memes, so that's cool. Of those three, I'd have to say /a/ is the worst, but they'll never be as bad as /cgl/. They can be great fun to watch anime with, and are very capable of having great threads. Also, they've spawned many a good idea themselves (board-tans, Katawa Shoujo, etc.)

Most of the other boards are more or less the same. I find /fit/ particularly useful because, regardless of whether they actually know what they're talking about or not, they always offer up some advice to the people who ask for it. There is a bit of "lolfatty" going on, but it's never to the extent of /cgl/. It's usually drowned out by some practical advice or some useful information.

/cgl/'s become so entrenched in its own drama-filled community that it's almost irrelevant. From what I've seen, it's the only board like that. The only board that might come remotely close to how shitty /cgl/ is is /y/ because they're hugely bitchy about what gets posted and often have dry spells of little to no new content. Still, at least they're never talking about who fucked who at some shitty convention while calling others out as ugly and worthless and when they DO actually have new content, it's good and people are appreciative of it.

At the very least, lets make an effort not to feed trolls. If someone's costume is a little off (or a lot off), just tell them politely what they did wrong instead of going "FAILRAWR!"

If this place could get used to new content that would be a big step in the right direction imo. As it stands now, you start a thread asking for cosplay from a certain series and all you get the same repost after repost, if something new slips into the mix its always assumed a self post. Every other thread is tripfaggotry, be it a derailment or something they could have just kept to aim or their ljs, but god forbid the internet isn't aware of them and the goings on of their personal lives. Updates on miyu's hair color, misty, krissy, dat ass, cancer to this board, and that's just to name a few.
tl;dr /cgl/ is nothing more than the same old, slow, boring, recycled content. Shit sucks.
