52 KB Running into someone you know Anonymous 06/27/09(Sat)16:25 No.1938484
Have any of you ever run into someone you know at a con, but neither of you had any clue you went to cons? Coworkers, teachers, classmates, ex roommates, family members, whatever. I think somewhere in the back of our mind we all dread it, but has it ever happened to anyone here?

I ran into an ex-girlfriend at a con.

She was half-japanese so it didn't really surprise me, but oddly enough I was the one that got her interested in Animu.

3 of my best friends, and we hung out for days without noticing. Only found out months later. Either we're stupid or we're really good cosplayers...

I ran into my high school theatre teacher at a con once. He and his girlfriend were dressed as Klingons. I wasn't too surprised by the costume, though, since he'd worn it to class on Halloween. Lolol.

a few years back I ran into my lab partner at Dragon*Con. We talked for like 2 minutes then went our separate ways. Looking back.. it's pretty weird, even though we saw talked to each other every other day, we never talked about anything con related
    >> Anonymous 06/27/09(Sat)17:41 No.1938627
It was a few years back at AX I want to say '06. I had a class earlier in the year with a gal and we talked and the like. She was typical artist girl. About three or so weeks into the class she went and disappeared. Well I randomly got a free ticket to AX that summer and who did I find but her.

We chatted for a while and went our separate ways. Ran into her the next year too...Dammit never got her number.

I saw past high school classmates at a con once, passed by each other on escalators, met up and hung out for a bit.

I acually ran into some friends that recently graduated from my school at a convention. It was pretty funny

Well I'm a teacher at a University so when I run into students at a con it's pretty awkward lol

3 years ago I ran into my physics teacher from highschool. He was entering some street fighter tournament with one of his friends and I was dressed as some FAIL Fooly Cooly character.I somehow had an awkward conversation before slinky away. Ugg...he was cute and pretty cool too.

Saw a coworker, but she didn't recognise me. I wore a wig and lots of make-up (horrible old visual kei cosplay...)
    >> Anonymous 06/27/09(Sat)19:04 No.1938835
I wear a mask most of the time so even if my co-workers find a website or attend a con im on they can't prove its me despite recognising my tag etc.

This happened to me too. I saw a guy I work with and since I was crossplaying I didn't want an "awkward moment", so I ducked my head down like I was reading and he passed on by. I got such a rush!

I've run into someone my friend knew. We were wearing different versions of the same character so we did some pics together and my friend saw the pics posted on myspace and was like hey, i know that guy! He then told the other guy he knew me too

This was an after the fact shock. A few years back, I went to a little podunk con, so small that you ran into every attendee at least twice. Recently, I decided to go searching for pics from the con, for old time's sake. I come across a picture of girls that go to my current school, whom I was about 2 months away from meeting at the time. I'm not their close friend or anything, but I did a total double, triple take when I saw the picture. Of course, they were in full on Naruto getup. Naturaaalllyyy.

my facebook picture is of me in costume at a con. Some girl my friend knows saw me comment on his status and it turned out she recognized me from a con so she requested me.
    >> Anonymous 06/28/09(Sun)07:53 No.1940065
I've run into random classmates that I never knew liked cons, and they were cosplaying.

Weirdest, though, was the other day at work. My coworker thought I looked familiar and when we started to talk cosplay he asked if I was at a local con last fall. I replied honestly and told him what I was cosplaying. Turns out he shook my hand and gave me a hug because he loved my costume.

I ran into some old classmates from my high school days before. Funny thing is, they were always in the sort of crowd that bullied nerds and weeaboos, then I find them at a convention cosplaying. It was a satisfying kind of irony.

I went to a catholic high school and had a Principal who was aptly named Mr. Cox. He was the unifom nazi dick who would rage at one of my friends daily becuase she was wearing the school vest and sweater because she was freezing and he did't want to believe her when she said they were both uniform. That summer we seen him at Fan Expo, and my friends bug him for a picture with them because omg Mr. cox goes to nerd cons, and he never bothered any of us about uniforms ever again.

    And she recognized me.
    Fuck.

I've run into quite a few people myself, actually.

I had no idea how much crossover there was between the car community and the anime con community until I started running into people I knew from one thing at the other.

Nothing's as bad as being randomly recognized, on a normal day, from 4chan, though. I've had people ask me if I was (my ex-tripfag name) multiple times, just from my car being recognized from /o/ posts back in the day.
