    16 KB Good eats! Anonymous 06/23/09(Tue)19:09 No.1929157
Okay people. Let's talk about good places to eat around cons. Con food is always priced at "RAPE YOUR POCKETS" level. San Diego Comic Con is coming up, and I'd love to know some good places to eat around the con. I know it's usually easier just to bring snacks and cheap microwavable food. But sometimes you just want to have a nice sit down meal at a place instead. It's easy enough to google up restaurants in the area, but it's always better to hear from people first hand.

So where are some of your favorite places to get a meal when you're down in San Diego?
    >> Anonymous 06/23/09(Tue)19:11 No.1929161
There's a Ralph's in walking distance of the con center. Go get sandwiches.

The guy in this show is hot.
    >> Anonymous 06/23/09(Tue)19:12 No.1929164
In & Out Burger. I don't think there's one by the convention center ComicCon is being held at, but it's worth the trip nonetheless.

That would defeat the purpose of a restaurants. I'm not talking something you can just go pick up at a grocery store like a cold sandwich. Sometimes you want a nice hot meal at a restaurant. Or go to a place with really good food. Like a place that sells good Mexican or Indian food.

There are tables, and they have a lot of hot options. But I did not address your question, my apologies.

I just read OP's post entirely in Alton Brown's voice. Then I lol'd.

    Sage for irrelevance.

When I go to cons, I learn to love pizza.
    >> Anonymous 06/23/09(Tue)20:30 No.1929431
I don't know about SDCC but for those going to Otakon, trust the street vendors. Harborplace is going to packed and all of those restaurants are expensive as hell anyway. Street vendors will sell you a hot dog, chips and water for $5. Also: there will be ice cream trucks that go on for miles.

Can we make this a general "good eats @ ____con" thread?
    >> Anonymous 06/23/09(Tue)20:38 No.1929456
No one's going to tell you the decently priced, not crowded, good food restaurants because then they lose quality number 2.
    >> MrFreeman !KsSAk/XATI 06/23/09(Tue)21:08 No.1929549
I've always felt sorry for that Subway on the corner. It's about an hour and a half line late into about 9pm. The Dennys isn't bad for the night owls though, I recommend it.
    >> Anonymous 06/23/09(Tue)21:24 No.1929593
First post here so I hope this works. Gaslamp Pizza (if it still there) is cheap and tasty. Unfortunatly Comic Con is right in the heart of downtown SD and therefore nothing is cheap.

Last year, there was a street fair a couple blocks away so we had crepes from a booth. As for eating there, your best bet would be to bring your own food. It's a thing my mom makes us do. Or hell, just wander around the Gaslamp for a bit until you find something you like.

There aren't any street vendors in the Downtown/Gaslamp area (there's some like in Chula Vista and what have you, but that's too far for these purposes). If anything there's plenty of hole in the wall places. I typically go to Ciro's Pizzaria for a quick and cheap eat at $2.50 a slice. It's not the OMGWTFBESTPIZZAEVAR, but it's certainly the best choice when it comes to how late they stay open, how cheap it is, how fast and nice the service is.

Or just go on Yelp and check that.

I have no idea about your particular con, but what I did was bought a nice cooler and I pack stuff in ice, and use the ice machines at the hotel. WARNING WARNING WARNING - Put EVERYTHING in tupperware containers that goes into the cooler! Otherwise they will get destroyed. I buy bread, lunch meats, mayo, etc.. so everyone can make sandwiches.

That pizza better walk over to me and have gold napkins for that much.

    My mom makes me sandwiches most of the time. ;_;
When I went to Anime North, I remember a Denny's, slightly expensive to the average con-goer but I love the pancakes there.

I'd imagine Subway would be a good cheap solution to some food problems. $5 for a footlong submarine sandwich. Want to splurge? spend another $1 on a bag of Doritos.

Right, way to let that go WAY over your head.

    LA - West Coast
NYC, home of the real "godliest pizza", is in the east coast. (Though often debated with Chicago for pizza)

Hence wrong city and wrong coast. DURHUR, I can't believe I had to explain that one.

Maybe she thought Chicago was in NY.
