makers of the program did release a couple of animated videos
concurrent with the program, but it was the CG artists that turned it
into something more than just a vocal song synthesizer. There was art
coming out the wazoo right off the bat at rates you usually only see
when the next big thing hits the anime community. The fans who turned
out covers using the program were a step behind, virtually responding
to a need created by all those artists. Cosplayers in turn often take
their cues from what is big online, and since the design is so pleasing
it quickly engulfed the cosplay community too.
It's really no
different than cosplaying OS-tans or any other mascot that becomes big
on Futaba/Pixiv/whatever. There's hardly any background for net mascots
but if the visual design is nice and there is a demand for and yearning
to cosplay those designs, then people will do it. |
