DON'T TOUCH ANYONE/ANYTHING UNLESS GIVEN PERMISSION AFTER ASKING IF YOU CAN!
Props, people, things you don't plan to buy but just think look "SUPA KAWAII DESU!"

    If told YES:
BE CAREFUL and await instructions (if any) on how hard or softly you can hug/touch that certain object/person/thing.

    If told NO:
BACK THE FUCK OFF, there is probably a good reason. Don't bitch and whine and complain that you don't get to touch something that is NOT YOURS. Don't ask "WHY" they probably will tell you something nice without you asking like "The costume/prop/thing is very delicate, but thank you for your interest". If they are rude and say "NO! GTFO You stink!" Maybe you should take a hint.

people get really smelly on the 3 day. i think that even if they didn't shower and just used deodorant they'd at least smell semi-nice, but they don't even do that. They kill my nose... people really need to learn to shower -_-

    Related to this:

What kind of deodorant can I get that will stop ANY AND ALL SWEATING from the pits area? I'm going to AX in a sleeveless, white costume, and I'm from rather cooler climes. I don't want giant gray circles radiating from my armpits.

I am up for trying to get a prescription thing or whatever if that is necessary to save my costumes from potential ruin.

DOVE makes an ultra strength deodorant that actually stops you from sweating, so you can't use too much of it and have to shower every night so that your pores can breathe again.
    It's around $8 I think.

I recently used AXE and despite my reservations about AXE it worked pretty well. (inb4 an i-told-you-so)

I find that if I just coat my armpits with like twelve thousand layers of deodorant I don't sweat. Granted, then I also smell like a discount soap gift basket but, it keeps me from having Omi syndrome.

Showering beforehand also helps. Surprise surprise.

    Dove is very good
and to the person asking about deodorant
    please please please use it
because i am going to AX as well
and do not wish to smell your con funk

Also to add to this, something that I didn't know until I was like, 13:

If you're looking to stop sweating entirely, you're looking for an antiperspirant. Deodorants just mask the smell while antiperspirants stop the sweat.

Hence the name, "antiperspirant" (no perspiring/sweat).

Ideally get an antiperspirant + deodorant combo. And the more you pay usually the better it will be.

Sounds good, I'll take a look. There a particular name for it, or should I just look through dove stuff until I find the most badass sounding one?

    >>1899346
I generally don't get that stinky regardless (I use deodorant anyway). I just sweat a lot when it's twice as hot as I'm used to and I'm walking around in heels.

    >>1899344
Not even saving a costume from being ruined is worth smelling like AXE to me. Sorry. :(

    >>1899352
In my experience the only deodorants that aren't antiperspirant are like...Tom's of Maine and a couple Speed Sticks. I figured people would assume I meant an antiperspirant deodorant because the majority are, and because I made an emphasis on not sweating.

    The type I use is
    Dove Clinical Protection Cool Essentials.

This shit works. I was stone faced shocked with how well it worked. Go for it! If you're lucky it might be on sale at a Safeway or something!

I wore AXE with Scout from TF2. It seemed appropriate to reek like a middle school locker room for him, but on second thought, I guess that wouldn't work well with heels and a dress.

And on the antiperspirant/deodorant issue, I didn't know they were that common place now. And to be fair, I don't expect congoers to have any idea what the difference is let alone know what to shop for.

Good luck though. I usually live in fear of having sweaty pits at a con. Pit stains are pretty embarrassing.

You guys are all retarded. Don't you shower every day before a con?

Hell, don't you shower every day REGARDLESS? It's basic hygiene. So is using antiperspirant. Hell I use the stuff and I don't sweat normally anyway.

Lucky I live in Australia, where Manifest is in winter, although I'd rather it be in summer because like I said, I don't sweat anyway and it would enable me to be a bit more relaxed with what I cosplay as.

Not having to fight off the infinite cold, and sure I can stop sweat, but I can't stop rain, which really ruins a con.

What the fuck? No one in this thread said anything about not showering. It's basic fucking common sense to shower once day during con (if not in everyday life). But that doesn't mean you don't sweat throughout the day.

And antiperspirants are NOT basic hygiene if you DON'T expect to sweat. They're actually fairly unhealthy, donchaknow.
    >> The Tripfag That Never Was 06/12/09(Fri)05:32 No.1899406
    >>1899395
To me it just sounds like everybody in this thread is trying to find a way out of showering before a con, that's just the vibe I'm getting.

I understand some people fly in and what not, and shower access may be limited, but chances are you're staying SOMEWHERE that has a shower and or sink to freshen up in.

I can't really stand sweat, just glad I don't get it myself. I feel bad for people who sweat like crazy, must suck while cosplaying.
    >> Anonymous 06/12/09(Fri)05:36 No.1899412
Well i shower everyday and all that crap. I wear loads of antiperspirant. But when your in a hot place and wearing quite fitted clothing as part of a cosplay sweat is a real problem. I've yet to find somthing to completely stop sweat!
    >> enderwillsaveus 06/12/09(Fri)05:36 No.1899413
    >>1899406

/cgl/ is usually not the otaku funk haven. Most cosplayers on here who aren't of the eBay/omfgfail variety have decent enough hygiene where they don't smell like ass. This is usually because cosplayers (of quality) tend to be in the sane end of the animu fan spectrum where they understand showering = good.

At least so I've learned in experience of meeting trip/namefags and "big name" cosplayers. None of them reek.

'cept me. But I go out of my way to be obnoxious and wear Old Spice and AXE and shit that sometimes makes people's nostrils burn because I think it's funny.

When I'm not wearing Old Spice and AXE though I like wearing perfume and I totally recommend it. Pleasant stuff though. I swear by Philosophy and Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab scents. Just to keep me smelling fresh to myself, at least.

    Fuck year Old Spice.

Maybe you should read the thread again/improve your reading comprehension?

/cgl/ (at least the vocal portion) is made up of people that try to keep themselves from being repulsive. This thread has people saying people should shower more, and people talking about deodorant. Most people DON'T have non-functional sweat glands, so chill the fuck out. If someone doesn't care enough to shower, they probably wouldn't care enough to wear deodorant either.

    >>1899406
You're an idiot. People do shower, having a shower does not make you not sweat the rest of the day, other people do sweat, others even more so, there's a reason why antiperspirant was made. Intense/hot situations, a place full of warm bodied nerds is one of those.

I'm chilled, I'm just adding my two cents, no need to get so crazy about it!

I didn't mean to offend, I have read this thread, no one really pointed out showering directly, so I took it upon myself to do that.

Just feeding everybody some ideas, that's all.
    >> Anonymous 06/12/09(Fri)05:44 No.1899425
I wear a Dove go fresh antiperspirant/deodorant and the perfume of it is very light. Not too girly or manly at all.
It's also got moisturising cream in it so it's very comfortable to wear. It does leave white streaks if you put too much on though...

    >>1899416

I'm a girl. I crossplay though and I like smelling like a men's restroom in an old folks home because I find it entertaining. Schadenfreude.

Sometimes I match scents and characters too because my life is pretty boring. Like when I was Dean Venture I sprayed myself with Old Spice body spray, AXE for Scout, fruity perfume for Quatre, etc. etc.

Perfume is the only really "feminine luxury" I embrace. Philosophy smells sogood.

I actually double up on my deodorant when at conventions, even though I hardly ever sweat. I am just paranoid about stuff like that. I usually wear Degree Ultra and Ban.

But when I am wearing a costume without sleeves, I only wear the Degree Ultra. So far it is the ONLY deodorant I have found that does not rub off and leave visible marks on clothing.

I highly recommend it to every female.
