So, it is my personal opinion that Officer Looker is the most awesome new character in Pokemon. I have to wonder though, would a Looker cosplay stand out at all? I get the feeling I'd bee little more than "odd detective guy", or worse yet, people wouldn't even realize it's a cosplay. I suppose the giant pockets of his coat stand out, but I guess subtlety can be nice too. Your thoughts, /cgl/? Are more subtle, "blend-in" cosplays just as interesting as the extravagant ones? It's Pokemon, so people should know it. On that note, how about a thread for subtle and simple cosplay

If you cosplayed Looker, you'd probably be mistaken for the 10th Doctor.

Honestly, I'd take that as a compliment, Dr. Who is awesome.

There was a guy at MTAC cosplaying Handsome/Looker. just attach a pokeball to one of the loops on your pants. That's a big enough hint as it is. When I saw him, we had a great discussion about how Handsome sounds better than Looker. Damn translations.

    Tl;dr - A pokeball solves everything.

This is a very good point

and I think being able to use most of the same stuff for two cosplays is made of win

Cosplay what you want. But with something like this, just make sure you go to the con with an Ash , or Dawn, or any other pogeymanz characters. And then your chances of standing out as Officer Looker increase.

to confirm this, when I first saw OP's pic my first thought was not "oh look it's Officer Looker," it was, "Why did someone draw the tenth doctor all animu like?"

    UH, OXYMORON MUCH?
Just look at your friggin' picture, OP; Look at how HUGE the pockets and the buttons are - subtle?! Then go make a friggin' live action movie of it, dude, wtf?!

THEN PERHAPS, OFFICER LOOKER IS REALLY THE DOCTOR. THE DOCTOR LANDED IN THE POKEMON WORLD ON HIS TARDIS AND HAS COME TO INVESTIGATE WHAT THE FUCK IS MESSING WITH SPACE AND TIME.

    IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW.

Not having kept up with Pokemon games since um, Silver if I saw that costume with a Pokeball I'd just wander what the Doctor was doing with a Pokeball. So OP I'd say if you want a costume recognizable as a Pokemon character this is not it. But if you just want to confuse Doctor Who fans then go ahead.

98% of congoers would, understandably of course, mistake a Looker cosplay for Detective Gumshoe.

I cosplayed Gary and most people who asked my Ash for a picture didn't know who I was.
So no, they won't recognize Looker.

Being inaccurate with Gary is kinda hard.
I had the two shirts, the necklace, even the bright orange boots and the crazy hair. People who were die-hard Pokemon fans (see other Pokemon cosplayers that were Misty and Melody, not fail Ashes) knew who I was, but pretty much no one else did.

    wow, sorry to hear that.
I guess that story I heard was also true: At the con in Boston in the summer of 07, a man and his fiancee went as Pokemon Trainers (he as Gold, she as Dawn). the two major gripes he had was 1. No One knew who he was cosplaying as, 2. everyone that took pics of his fiancee asked him to move out of the shot.

Melody? did you mean "May" or some other name that begins with M?

Sweet. What con? I might be able to find some pics myself. Kind of hoping its not the ones that show up when simply typing "Melody" in to coscom costume search, since I found them to be kind of "meh". :(
