/cgl/, talk about what pisses you off.
    Little things, Big things, whatever
    this is what mine is.

Do any of you have the problem that people you know HAVE to get into the manga/anime/video game/whatever that you're getting into, simply because you like it?
Or they cosplay from it just because you are, even if they don't really like the series?
    It pisses me off

tl;dr bitch about what makes you mad/some people need to gtfo of my fandom

If it's a friend of yours who's getting into a series because you like it, I don't see how that could make anyone rage. It's like hearing about a good place to eat from someone, and trying it out for yourself.

Anyways, what makes me rage more then anything is people who go 'BAW THEY'RE COPYING ME' when someone they know does the same costume/character.

For fuck's sake, no one's copying you. Get off your high horse; ever think maybe someone actually LIKES that character/design and you're just over sensitive?

Reminds me of someone I know. Bitch will whine and moan when she finds out someone's gonna do the same character as her and gets all pissed off if any of her friends mentions that they want to do the same character.

What pisses me off is having a friend who completely ignores me until she wants us all to do a group cosplay together.

She suddenly goes from someone with her away message up constantly to bombarding me with links, texts, and pictures for a costume I'm not THAT crazy about for a series I haven't even played. And then throws on the guilt trip like hell if I try to decline, because we've always said that a group cosplay would be fun.

Oh, and it's for fucking A-kon, which half our group won't even be at anyway.

Have you ever had someone who suddenly develops an interest in everything you like? Every show, every game, every band, EVERYTHING? Even things they previously claimed they didn't like? Yeah... It goes beyond uncomfortable and well into RAGE territory.

Oh my god... are you me? I'm also going to A-kon, and I have the same damn problem. Half the time I end up getting my costume partially done, and then they DROP the whole cosplay. So I wasted money on a cosplay I wasn't all too excited to do, and now won't do because there is no group. Ugh. Such rage.

This. But only when they want to cosplay before they've read/watched/played the series. When I first got into MTNN, my friend (if you can call her that) refused to read it "because the art is so ugly". But when she saw the fan opening, she wanted to cosplay X/Sai, and went as far to say: "I call dibs on that cosplay. If you let anyone else cosplay him I'll kill you. xDDDD Lol!" She refused to read it... and then called "dibs" on a character she wasn't suited for in the first place? Yeah. I raged.

Word got out that I'm a nerd who cosplays. Now my weeaboo friends, their weeaboo friends, my siblings' weeaboo friends, and sometimes random weeaboos I don't even know will come up to me and ask if I'll make them costumes. It's flattering, but I don't have the time nor am I confident enough in my ability to make a costume for another person. I don't do commissions. I. Don't. Do. Commissions. I'm fucking sick of telling people that.
    >> Anonymous 03/25/09(Wed)21:03 No.1728241
Since I'm terrible at deciding cosplays, my friends often rope into their 'cosplay' groups (which is basically closet cosplay) but then they change their minds like, a week before the con since they aren't actually spending time or money on their cosplays. I end up with a partially finished cosplay. Most of the time I finish it off and lol when I get many more compliments on my costume by myself than their cruddy group closet cosplay.

Since my family and friends found out I could sew and saw the quality of my cosplays (granted, they took FOREVER to make), I'm constantly bombarded with people wanting me to make them this and that, mostly stuff like couch slipcovers, and then they try to lowball me with pay because OH WE'RE FRIENDS/FAMILY. No, bitch. Pay me.

I've got a list of cgl/cosplay things that piss me off. Enjoy.

    1. People who cosplay a character not knowing anything about the character. For fucks sake, if you're going to pour over $50 into a costume, you best know who the character is and have at least some appreciation for the character.

    2. People who think that what they cosplay is better than what a different group of people cosplay. I've been seeing this a lot lately, especially from /co/splayers where some of you think that you're somehow better than anime/manga cosplayers. You all bitch when someone says that they're bringing an anime cosplay to a comic convention, yet you turn around and talk about how awesome it is to see /co/splay at anime cons. Get over it. You're a fucking nerd just like the rest of us.

    3. Caramelldansen. I've gotten used to it, but thats what makes me rage. i shouldn't have to get used to this faggotry. Put some fucking effort into your dances. Hare hare yukai and The luck star dance? Overdone, but hey, they took the time to learn it.

    continues to next post
    >> Anonymous 03/25/09(Wed)21:32 No.1728324
    4. /b/ shit at cons. I don't think I need to elaborate on this one. I as of now would have more respect for a furry gaiafag who draws disproportinal yaoi between sasuke and naruto and post emo shit on their myspace and livejournal than i do your average /b/tard. The furry gaiafag might be a completely obnoxious dipshit, but hey, at least they aren't a completely obnoxious dipshit who thinks they are better than everyone else.

    5. Ok, it seems like most of you mostly attend anime conventions. For god sakes, it wont kill you to watch some anime, read some manga, play some vidya etc. Most of you on /cgl/ seem like you've seen less anime than a gaia user who just learned what anime was 2 months ago. If you're an anime con regular, then study up on your stuff. Then you'll also know a lot more characters, and so you'll have a much bigger store of characters to choose from. It would be nice to see some more diversity in the characters people cosplay. Now I'm not saying everyone on this board needs to go watch 100+ anime, but it would be nice to see some of you anime con goers go watch something obscure and cosplay from it. And WHATEVER you do, DO NOT bash someone for knowing their shit about their fandom. As long as you're a con-goer, you're a nerd just like they are. (Im using mostly anime as an example in this because it seems to be the most underdone on /cgl/ between vidya, manga, and everything else)

    6. This ones more for the socially inept people at the con. When you're at a con and introducing yourself to someone, don't go on a boring rant about how kids beat you up a school for liking anime and how many milligrams of adderal you're on. It seems like 1 out of 4 people I talk to just want to talk about how shitty their life is and how shitty everyone outside the con treats them.

    7. All of you fuckers in the cosplay community who think they deserve special attention for being bisexual, lesbian or gay. It drives more of a line between Homosexuality and Heterosexuality, which is what the rest of the Homosexual supporting population is against. It's like the black people who excpect them to be treated exactly as white people then they want all these special "black history days and months". It's hypocritical, but more than anything it's really fucking annoying.

I could go on, but I'll stop here

In most progress threads, all I see are stuff from obscure JRPGs nobody played or a shounen manga that everyone has cosplayed from. and there is no way that is the other way around, since /co/ was hijacked by /b/'s 2008 crowd they've become the most fail board on 4chan because they think they are so much higher above the rest of the 4chan community. Now, i have nothing but respect for the real /co/merades, but most of you fuckers are just there because you're following the rest of the failboat nerd community.

Anyone who's not truthful about why they're doing any given thing. There's a lot of this in the cosplay community.

Example 1: Heterosexual middle class nerd girl dresses in skimpy cosplay, clearly knows jack-all about the character, takes photos pretending to make out with other girls, does everything in her power to force people to take notice of her, and then turns around and says she doesn't care about attention and really she doesn't see what all the fuss is about. If you're gonna be an attention whore, just own up to it.

Example 2: Pathetic nerd has a crush on his friend, dedicates all his time to and spends all his money on cosplaying characters she likes, gets one hug out of it, realises it will never go further, then goes all "pfft, trying to get in her pants? Nah bro" to save face. If you want to get out the friend zone, stop lying to her and yourself and own up.

Example 3: tripfags and wannabe 'famous' cosplayers posting on here and cos.com about how they don't understand why people assume X about them, but then they keep on posting proving whatever X is and pander to the trolls. If you want to be the next Adella or Yaya just say so, it's pathetic but it's even more pathetic when you pretend you don't want the 'fame' while everyone can clearly see it anyway.

Of course, these people "don't really like anime", they're just there "for their friends", yet they spend all their time looking for people to take pictures of them.

As in trying to dress as a character to match whatever your doing? Or them offering to make your costumes to get close to you? If it's the first tell them you'd rather do a cosplay pairing with your gf because that would be romantic and it just wouldn't be the same doing it with your FRIEND instead. If it's them offering to help you make your cosplays and it's that uncomfortable for you then tell them you would rather do the costume on your own. You are using them if you know what the persons intentions are. So you only have yourself to blame if it becomes uncomfortable for you. If you are o.k.with misleading them to get what you want then you you hardly have the right to bitch that they are creeping you out.

When people cosplay something they're not familiar with and don't do ANY research. I've met people who just liked the character design and decided to do the cosplay...which is one thing, but then they don't even like, Wiki the character to check out their info. I've ran into people that don't even remember their character's name. It's even worse when they do it just because it's popular or skimpy.

It doesn't matter if this shit is just for fun. Whenever you make promises, plans, and go into something knowing it's going to take a lot of time, money, and effort with all the parties who get involved you need to follow through and if you can't take fucking responsiblity, apologize, and don't act like those of us who get upset at your flaky attitude don't have the right to be at least a little bit upset. In this case, it would be a 15 year old boy cosplaying as loveinterestx to an engaged 24 year old girl cosplaying as hotfemalex. He has tried to get others to make the loveinterestx costume for him and has told the girl's friends he foresees 15x24 pics together. That's right, not interestxfemale, but 15x24. 24 and her friends have told 15 off many times, even resorting to threatening physical violence. He still does not pick up that he is not wanted in any sexual manner. In fact, he invited himself to one of 24's photoshoots with her girl friends yesterday and is trying to make it to her wedding at the end of this month, even though he was not invited. It is more of your first reason of trying to match the cosplay, but in a creepy teleiophilic way.

I once spent months beading a CLAMP outfit to wear to the next con and was so proud of it. I wouldn't let anyone touch me unless they were careful and didn't have anything that could get caught on me, and everyone was fine with it and took pictures instead. Half way through the day some guy wearing a Hot Topic zipper jacket came up with his idiot friends and without asking tried to hug me. I told him politely "No, I'm sorry you might get caught on me..." and he called me a bitch an left. 15 minutes later, the fucker glomps me, knocks me over and rips half the beads off the front and side of my dress. Months of work destroyed in 5 seconds and all he could say was "Maybe next time you won't be such a stuck up cunt."

There have been multiple occasions where I have had the audacity to have the same costume (sometimes better, sometimes worse, sometimes equally made) as someone else and you would swear I beat their mother with an aborted fetus. What's worse is when you tell them that you appreciate their cosplay and are happy they like the show/manga/videogame as well and they flippantly brush you off or are straight up rude. I think the main issue most people have is that it deviates so far from traditional vampire lore that it doesn't even seem like the same creature.

Of course since they're not real, there will be differences. Some are evil monsters that kill humans mercilessly, others have a conscious and do their best to not kill humans, some are killed by a steak to the heart, others with silver bullets, others are warded off with garlic or crosses. But I don't think I've ever known of a vampire who didn't have to fear the sun (unless they were a half-breed or one of ridiculous power) and from what I read in another thread, the twilight vampires don't even have fangs? wtf? Those aren't vampires. They're sparkly people who live forever and like the taste of blood, but don't drink it. And they go to high school because they're bored. wtf?

Liberal cosplayers, the are rude and odd. I make this generalization because as far as I can tell, the Northern conventions have most of the drama, while most of the southern ones don't. Now some of you may argue that there are quite a lot of dramatic southern conventions, but that's because despite popular belief, there are liberal hotspots in the south. Also, most of the bad cosplayers I come across are liberals or kids (I know they're liberals because they call me a bigot and a hypocrite when I tell them to put some clothes on).

Anime in general is a pretty liberal-dominated hobby. Many conservative taboos are part of the fabric of anime convention culture. Honestly, you really shouldnt be at anime conventions if you feel very strongly about your views that conflict with the anime con enviroment. And con drama does not come from politics or political views, it comes from jealousy, lack of common sense, and relationships and failing at them.

    Person who posted that.

Yeah. Most only use one space, but originally, on a typewriter, there were two. People just started dropping one, it seems. I was always tought to put two when I learned to type in the early '90's. The internet can't even seem to decide, I just did a google search because of the response questioning said statement.

Regardless, mess self-righteous tl;dr up there needs to learn to put spaces there, and needs to learn NOT to put her spaces before the comma for whatever fucking reason.

    1. People who cosplay characters they have never heard of and honestly do not care about with the sole intention of showing of their figures, especially when they do not actually have such figures to show off.

    2. Females who do not bind or attempt to make their hair look male when cosplaying males. Also, fat females cosplaying as skinny males. It just doesn't work, and it isn't flattering to yourself or the character.

    3. People who insist that they are absolutely the best cosplayers of whatever they cosplay. Even if you are the best of whatever you cosplay, I don't want to hear about it from you.

    4. People who cosplay as someone from a different race, especially a black person cosplaying the palest of pale characters. I'm not racist. I would love to see black cosplayers cosplaying as black people.

    5. People who don't do anything with their hair when they cosplay, especially if they have otherwise amazing costumes. This could be because I'm so into styling wigs and hair for cosplay, but it just irks me when it's obvious that no effort or half-assed effort was made.
    >> Anonymous 03/27/09(Fri)15:13 No.1732671
    6. People who don't get at all into character when they cosplay. It's okay not to act exactly like your character throughout the whole convention, but at least try for most of it. This includes poses. You should have at least two good poses when you decide to cosplay as a character.

    7. People who insult costumes that people spent months of their life making when they bought their costume. If you're going to criticize someone's skill, you should first make sure that you could either do any better or tell them how to do any better.

    8. People who think in the hotel room during the con is the time to work on costumes. It's not that it makes me angry, but it makes the environment of the hotel room very stressful and awkward when one person starts their costume the Thursday before the con when they have been working on their costumes since the last con.

    9. People who cosplay L without cosplaying. Seriously, if you want to cosplay L, at least buy a good wig and style it or make your hair look like L's. It would still be annoying, but not quite as annoying as redheaded "L cosplayers."

    10. People who insist that anyone who cosplays as the character they are cosplaying is copying them. Seriously, don't flatter yourself. It's not like they're stealing your identity.
