It only took 26 hours to get up to Oregon on the train from LAX. Seattle was only a couple stops after the one I got off at.

Again, I'll have to see which seems more appealing. A car for 20ish hours with a majority of the road being the straight part of the 5[ew]or a train where I can sleep a good majority away and watch movies on my laptop.

Once you get over the Grapevine and almost into Bakersfield, instead of taking the 5 interchange, keep on the 99 all the way up north. You pretty much bypass the shit-tastic part of the 5 (outside of the LA part of course.) The 99 and the 5 reconnect outside of Sacramento, and by taking the 99 you don't have to deal with as many random semis, and it's not nearly as gusty, and there's actual civilization around.

Holy shit. My friends and I carpooled from LA to Seattle last year; 23 hours in total. We kept taking long ass breaks (one break was well over two hours), got lost in LA for over an hour, and since we all hate fast food, we only ate at sit in restaurants.

The road trip was SO MUCH FUN, though. No dramu whatsoever. :D We'd do it again this year, but two of my friends have exams that week. We'll just fly in this year.
