What does /cgl/ think about non-animu cosplay at anime conventions?
    >> Anonymous 12/16/08(Tue)05:16 No.1480636
Eh, I've done it before, and I don't find it a big deal. Plus, I had cosplayed as GLaDOS-tan and the con had the Orange Box running anyway.

I've seen PotC before, jack sparrow or whatever.

Also, I'm betting there has been tons of Joker cosplay since TDK.

Cartoon cosplay doesn't seem that bad though.

Some cons are only defined to be "anime" by the congoers and not the people running the con. I'm pretty sure A-kon is considered to be an "eclectic entertainment convention" rather than just anime, and other cons always offer more than just anime.

As far as I see it, it's nerds dressing up as characters. The more you subdivide it, the less relevant the categories become. I figure, American vidja can be cosplayed at conventions, why not American cartoons?

I think it's actually kinda funny to throw them in the mix of anime/manga cosplayers. I was at ACEN '08 and amongst what seemed like endless L's (Jesus fucking Christ!!!) I saw the following NON-anime related cosplays:
    -Mr T.
    -Raptor Jesus.
    -Pedobear
    -Sandtrooper
    -Iron man
-Old man Herbert from Family Guy
-The Venture Bros. (very accurate I might add)
-Sonic cosplayers...although that might qualify in Japanese culture at least.
-briefly saw (but did not photograph) Hollywood Hulk Hogan.
-and yes another fucking Jack Sparrow.
-and Daft Punk cp'ers, almost forgot them.
