34 KB Nair vs Veet Anonymous 09/25/08(Thu)01:08 No.1322397
This is a topic about hair removal. How else are you gonna cosplay from Strike Witches?

In my case, it's about pubes. I've narrowed my choices down (no shaving, waxing or lasers) to hair removal cremes/gels/etc. I have dark hair on top of pale skin, so I always end up with a ~5-o-clock shadow~ phenomenon with shaving(plus ingrown hairs).

I tried using veet(for sensitive skin), but instead of breaking the hair at the skin, the hair broke 1/4 of an inch out, like I hadn't shaved in a day or two. I applied the creme, waited probably more than 10 minutes, then skimmed it with the scraper. Any repeated attempts caused itchy red irritation.

TL:DR is Nair any better than Veet? Am I doing something wrong?
    >> Anonymous 09/25/08(Thu)01:14 No.1322428
Stay away from Nair. Unless you're willing to do something else, I don't know what to tell you. :\
    >> Anonymous 09/25/08(Thu)01:15 No.1322434
they are the same thing, and u gotta trim first
    >> Anonymous 09/25/08(Thu)01:15 No.1322435
If you look on the package most of them aren't meant for removing pubes. Probably where a lot of your problems are stemming from.

Have you ever tried waxing or shaving down there before? I know that some stores sell specialized razors for sub-navel shaving.
    >> Anonymous 09/25/08(Thu)01:16 No.1322438
I have skin just like yours. All of those products will cause irritation if left on long enough to actually take off the hair. I havn't done it yet myself, but I think waxing would be less painful and damaging.

Nair uses harsher chemicals and can cause serious skin reactions in some people.

I would recommend sucking it up and getting yourself waxed.
    >> Magikarp !8W0EtR3bMU 09/25/08(Thu)01:16 No.1322441
Ah.. I have this shaving cream specially made for down there called Coochy. It's supposed to soften the hair and reduce the occurance of bumps. It works pretty well, but I'm sure it isn't nearly as clean as dipilliatories (I'm afraid to get those down there!)
    >> Soni !!qeHmeAJM1a2 09/25/08(Thu)01:17 No.1322444
In all honesty, Nair and Veet both fucking suck. All those hair removal cremes leave red bumps and just irritation and I can't imagine that being very comfortable in the pube area. I suggest you suck it up and get a wax, they way you prevent the 5 o' clock thing and the extreme irritation. But go maybe a day before so your skin can recover cause it'll be sore.
    >> Anonymous 09/25/08(Thu)01:18 No.1322455
Veet is great for leg hair or bikini-line hair.

Not for pube hair. Deal with the waxing!
    >> Anonymous 09/25/08(Thu)01:19 No.1322458
Exfoliate first, getting rid of the dead skin cells will help you reach more hair.

Nair is harsh and the smell won't leave your bathroom for WEEKS. Veet works pretty well, unless you leave it on too long and get red bumps. You do realize you're chemically burning off your hair, right?

Also, pubes grow out of the skin at an angle, not straight up, so you'll probably still see part of it under your skin.
    >> Anonymous 09/25/08(Thu)01:20 No.1322460
Why won't you wax? I waxed for the first time not too long ago and I will NEVER go back to shaving or depilatory creams.

    PS
If you're literate, you would have read the Veet instructions, which clearly say not to leave the cream on for too long, or else you'll get irritated.
    >> Anonymous 09/25/08(Thu)01:20 No.1322463
I had a really bad experience with Veet. It felt like bees attacked my legs. You're probably better off waxing.

At least for me, I don't want to go through the horror/pain/embarrassment.

    TL:DR anxiety issues.

It'll be painful for like.. 2.5 seconds.

And you aren't the only one, but keep in mind that the people who work at waxing people's nether-regions do it ALL THE TIME. Seriously.. just think of it like that. Or if you want, wear sunglasses, there's just something about wearing sunglasses that helps take the edge off.

not op, but I don't know if it's smart to do your own first bikini wax. I don't know how much you can fuck up, except that I think they wouldn't be able to go through with it once they pull the first strip.
    >> Anonymous 09/25/08(Thu)01:28 No.1322501
Get a wax. I have similar skin as you, OP, and waxing is the only thing that gets rid of hairs. And be careful with depilatories. Once I tried one on my legs and had an allergic reaction that made my hair follicles bleed. Never again!
    >> Anonymous 09/25/08(Thu)01:31 No.1322514
wtf are you supposed to do before you get waxd? i'd be afraid that my vag would be pig disgusting if I wait too long after a shower.

when I was getting my Esthetician's license...we had to do full brazillian waxes on random strangers. Believe me, it is 10x more embarrassing for the person actually DOING the waxing.

I remember having to work on a person who I am pretty sure had not showered in 5 days. I gave up half-way through it, and told my instructor to find someone else to finish.

take some baby wipes or some of those cottonelle wipes with you in your purse, and freshen up in the restroom when you get there.

I lol'd. Just take a shower and go in right away! Vaginas don't get pig disgusting unless you're sweating buckets, having showered in over a day and are wearing cotton undies, not thongs though.

    >>1322520
Wow, I made no sense there.. sleep where are you?

I meant to say that you should wear cotton undies when you get in cause it breathes, but stay away from thongs.

Vaginas get gross after sweating all day and/or not taking a shower for over a day.

If I had something to contribute here, it would be to suggest waxing. However, I personally feel it is important to find a salon or spa that uses a nice hard wax. My first experience was with hard wax, and I was surprised at how not awful it was. My second experience was with a soft wax... I am not going back to that place. Also, don't be nervous. The nervousness is what makes it painful. It's not even as embarrassing as all that. Remember that these guys are professionals, and that they see tons of people. They've seen it all, I'm sure.

All in all, it's certainly an experience to have... even if it's just the once. Read up, do some research... and good luck!

It may be embarrassing and painful to go in for a wax, but it'd be way more embarrassing and painful if you end up getting an allergic reaction to the Nair down there.

    >> Anonymous 09/25/08(Thu)01:47 No.1322595
    >>1322581
Yes, but I actually recommend threading over waxing when it comes to facial hair. The hair grows back slower and finer.

Yes, most salons I've seen offer it for around 15-20 dollars.

Is it possible to wax a guys face or is that hair just so coarse it would be like... I have no analog, just a big painful, possibly bloody mess?
    >> Anonymous 09/25/08(Thu)02:10 No.1322717
    >>1322674
do not recommend. chicks can wax their faces no problem because the hair is pretty fine, and it's just in a few areas (upper lip, chin etc). i think a beard wax would be a bloody mess (literally, blood everywhere). but hey, give it a try and get back to us, i'm all for empirical evidence over speculation.

If they can do pubes they can do anything.

Quickie story time: I don't know if it's all, but I wouldn't recommend a Russian spa. My brother went and holy shit they laughed at his pain and offered to take pictures for his girlfriend. They slapped his leg and told him to stop being such a pussy. Took their sweet ass time and he got massive ingrown hairs. I lol'd.

    um, no.

that is the first major no-no you are taught when learning how to wax. A Male's facial hair//beard is way more deep than the hair on a woman's leg. pulling off a wax strip would be like ripping his face off.

can someone reccommend a home waxing brand? I tried this stuff that was supposed to be brazilian wax or something, but it stays soft and sticky all the time....it didn't take any hair off when I pulled, and the wax stayed stuck all over me. I microwaved it correctly and everything, but it was bloody hell to get off and I was left with the same amount of hair as before...
    >> Anonymous 09/25/08(Thu)02:31 No.1322828
Beauty Therapist here, I know what I'm talking about.

Shaving dehydrates skin, causes it to be rough and should only be done if you have no other choice.

Using hair removal creams and gels should NOT, I repeat NOT used anywhere near the genitals. It'll cause itchiness, redness and possibly infection.

Waxing is the best option, hot wax or warm wax, preferably warm, done in a salon. It will last the longest, won't give you 5 o'clock shadow and will get rid of all of it. For both guys and girls, pubic hair doesn't hurt as much as facial hair, so it shouldn't hurt that much, just insure that when you go you have about an inch and a bit of hair so they can properly wax it.

Simply put, get a wax, its the easiest to do.

What do you recommend for generic leg hair removal?

I've used chemical shit (carefree, nair, veet, never noticed a difference) and I love it. I can go for, like, a week and a half and my leg hairs are barely noticeable now. I used to have really coarse, dark hairs after a couple days.

I use it on my crotch occasionally, but it really is better to trim, or to shave three or four days before you plan to use the stuff.

Also scrubbing with a rough rag or scrubby is way better than that scraper shit.
