The
best way to start a good con is to kiss a lot of ass. Bend over, pucker
up, and put up with huge amounts of annoying behavior, because the con
circuit seems huge until you realize that, three cons later, you've
been hanging with the exact same crowd at the exact same parties and
the exact same events. You can't afford, as a new con, to offend
*anyone*, and it seems that's what this Revell guy did--he offended
*everyone*. It would be one thing if the con was in its second year and
someone else was deliberately planning events to draw others away, but
knowing no history of his event, it seems he's had more than a couple
of years' time to correct his behavior and hasn't. He can't demand that
every good cosplayer within a certain radius attend his con, at least
without offering perks that it doesn't sound like he's capable of
offering.
Yeah, I'll agree: it's childish and mean of them to
purposely double-book the weekend. But it sounds like no one was
planning to go to his event anyway, and why should they? He should just
take his beating and learn his lesson and do better next time. Why
doesn't he try changing the season/locale/lineup/power chain if he
really wants improvement? Instead, it looks like he just wants to whine
and cry and make excuses for why everyone went to ACC's pool party
instead of his sweet 16. |
