Corrections: we have summaries of the Chinese version of the final book. The real book is apparently 300 pages long.

Basically it looks like Kyousuke lets all girls down in turn, but Manami pretty much goes down fighting (in an actual fight). There's a mock wedding, with actual tongue action (there's an accompanying LN image for this) then... Kyousuke returns the wedding ring, and says their romantic relationship is over, and they're back to brother and sister. The ending skips ten years, to a reunion with their friends, but in a "oh really now" moment, Kyousuke gives Kirino a deep kiss, which leaves the readers wondering if they REALLY have gone back to normal, or this is just their public facade to avoid the obvious social repercussions.

Possible rage bait aside, I found it more interesting about how a short bit implied that Kirino and Kuroneko have stopped talking to each other for ten years — their old blog suddenly gets a post, apparently from Kirino, asking what happened "since that time" (Kyou and the mock wedding).

I've come to suspect the Japanese overall expect far less from their endings than us Westerners. They don't seem to rage like Western otakus every time a non-conclusive, loose-end abandoning finale gets made. In Western entertainment, endings like Ranma's, Negima's, School Rumble's or Oreimo's would pretty much torpedo a creator's career down.

NOW, this ends with Kyousuke being VERY MUCH attracted to his sister! He was NEVER a siscon!! Hell, in the anime's second season he constantly calls himself one! Ass!!!

My thoughts on the spoilers: That's not a proper ending.

This realisation of the same ending I had in mind kind of sucks.

It's not an open end, but neither is it a conclusive ending. It has more or less explicit incest (rather than subtext - not actual sex obviously) but then it combines the worst elements of an open and an end in which every girl loses.

I guess it somewhat resembles the Ranma ½ ending in which there is a wedding which doesn't actually lead to a winner as well. Thinking about it, I suppose if Kyousuke turned down everyone else because he said he loved someone else, and then he [[spoiler:ended his relationship with that girl, then that may count as an open ending.

Well I'm still hopeful about the end of the anime because if they do another open anime end followed by a true route, I may actually prefer episode 12's broadcast ending to the ending of the light novel.

Or at least, I hold out more hope for it than for the time skip chapter coming out with the BD.
