That's a bit pedantic. High fructose corn syrup is still sugar, it's just a different kind of sugar from good old fashioned sucrose. "Real sugar" is better, but HFCS isn't some completely artificial chemical, it's taking corn sugar and trying to make it taste more like cane sugar. To the extent that "sugar" is something that you can be addicted to, HFCS and cane sugar are pretty similar, although HFCS is probably worse for you.
