I won't try too hard to convince you, but have some blogshit: When I first watched DD, it was because all the buzz before season 2 got me to pick it up out of my backlog. During the first episode, I had this feeling that it was really stupid, almost like the premise was something 4kids would have come up with to make a violent series 'kid-friendly'. I was wondering what I had gotten myself into, and ho anyone could enjoy this. But I gave it three episodes, like a good anime watcher, and within those I got hooked. It's genuinely fun, there's no other way to describe it.

Nah, I like my series with a story of some kind.

There's only thirteen episodes! The world's sufficiently unique that I'd have liked to have seen some of it. Wasting half the season with filler episodes and introducing yet more new characters implies that they're doing a Lost, and hoping that enough shiny will distract the viewer from noticing that they don't know what's going on either.

Also, "turns out becky likes sasuke too, now that she's tried it" is lazy writing. Rather than come up with interesting things for her to do, they just turned her into nanami on a broomstick, and in one stroke halved the amount of original ideas they needed to come up with.

There wasn't terribly large amount of story in S2 I'll admit, but they did more world building and introducing more characters allowed a lot of that as well as giving some of the side characters more background and depth to make them feel more in check with the rest of the cast. Valerio partially escapes the seal and leaves Adel behind after something or someone damages it. Being in the mood for a combination of conquest and mass-scale perving, he decides to summon a villain to help him reclaim his glory days. He gets Cinque, of course, who has to go along with it if he ever wants to go home.

So it's Dog Days meets Overlord with the typical blend of comedy/action/fanservice/etc only now Cinque is a reluctant villain. Would you watch this?

We really don't see enough of her in S1 to know if it's bad writing that retcons her motivation, but It's certainly *lazy* writing, when you consider all the other things she could have been doing. We've only seen tiny scraps of what life is like outside of the palace, let alone outside of two tiny nations (and one xerox of two tiny nations) small enough that their entire cabinet fits in a dining room.

By having her tag along with everyone else, they halve their writing load: instead of having to think up interesting, non-war things for her to do, they can just have her tag along with everyone else doing all the same things.
