I would defend that Lucas knew what story to make but didn't understand the subtle fundamentals and it completely crashed.

The prequels, chronologically, we're good if you ignore the bullshit shit writing and look at the big picture as a whole.
Ignoring the acting, ignoring the plotholes and all the shit, the prequels are a good story.

It's a damn good story about the rise of the sith and the fall of the jedi as a tragedy.

The whole Yoda vs Sidious fighting at the heart of the galaxy itself was symbolic as fuck as well as other small symbolic things.

I'm not going to say Lucas didn't fuck up but he had a lot more help with the original trilogy, which he didn't have when he made the prequels.
I sometimes imagine what would have happened if he had the same guys who helped him do the original but with the prequels.

I just feel they missed out on quite a bit. MC got his arm and leg hacked off, then replaced with prosthetics, but he didnt really change much other than his fighting ability.
Doc also didnt give much of a reason for giving them to him.
