Had to read the English language version and then translate a few passages from the original Japanese version for a class project a couple years back. I kinda want to finish the original Japanese version since I received a copy of it as a gift.

It hasn't been easy, but neither has it been as skull-fuckingly difficult as I had once thought it would be.

This is probably a stupid question, but why are some things considered as harder to read than others?

If you learn the grammar rules then isn't everything after that point just a matter of looking up vocab and piecing together the sentences? I don't really understand why one sentence would be harder than the other, even if it used obscure vocab, since you can just look up any word and then add it to your anki deck.

For example, if you understand Japanese grammar but know very little vocab then what would be the difference between trying to read Muramasa and trying to read Ping Pong Pantsu or Yotsuba? Aren't you going to be looking up every single word either way?

Isn't this becoming less and less common even in Japan? Now that everything is getting phased out by computers and fonts become increasingly more familiar than handwritten Japanese. He's better than most online teachers. He really knows how to motivate you. His cursing is something you grow attached to, but sometimes you feel like he does it a bit too much. You also feel like he's right there with you sometimes, which is good. Excellent motivation.

Teaching: 9/10
I haven't watched any of his kanji, but from his kana and what he DID do with vocab, he is very good. I also caught one possible mistake, and it was "city council" or something. I forget exactly what he wrote it as. It may have not even been a mistake. It was something like しゃくしょまえ, and if I got that right after a year of not studying any of his vocab, then that proves how good he actually is at teaching. His mnemonics helped a lot, even his bullshit ones. His slow-mo writing was helpful. His examples were glorious.

That fucking handwriting: 6/10
It's honestly better than average, but it was still lacking. His stroke order is fucked up. I honestly believe that stroke order doesn't really matter, but he is actually writing his kana in ways that are clearly harder than they need to be. Overall though, pretty good. He at least puts a computer font up there with his handwriting, so he knows he is shit.

Preparedness: 4/10
This fucker's markers keep running out of juice. His hat keeps getting in his eyes. He runs out of beer every now and again. His camera's angling fucks up and he has to fix it once or twice.

Enjoyment: 9/10
He knows how to have fun. I love his counting video, it really helped me.

Are there any "Japanese-only" fonts in that they don't have the latin alphabet?

My reason being that I use the terminal urxvt (which allows you to specify preferred and fallback fonts) with the font GNU Unifont, but I don't like the way it displays some kanji (Hangul versions). However, I do like the way it displays the latin alphabet.
