Because I've recently started translating things here and there I was wondering if I could get some informed opinions.
Do you prefer: literal translations; close approximations or; artistic license with similar meaning but some words are changed (and may not have been said at all) because the sentence sounds weird in English.
Also for words with no direct translation (e.g. nee-san --> elder sister) do you dislike romaji in translations? Should honorifics be kept, dropped or 'translated' (e.g. -san --> Mister / Miss)
I should probably say that I'm asking mostly about written translations.
