>JPN-101 Japanese for Anime Enthusiasts
>This is a beginner's level Japanese course with a focus on developing students' listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in the target language. Students will be introduced to basic language structure and vocabulary, as well as to two of the three writing systems: hiragana and katakana. The grammatical componenets will be tied to theme based units, which will explore the cultural aspects of everyday living in Japan. Students will further research these topics and utilize the learned structures by analyzing and discussing their favorite anime as well as those anime that are considered classics in Japan. With the use of commercially produced software, students will apply the learned skills into creating their own anime/manga. The software comes with templates that students can use, so drawing skills are not a necessary prerequisite. Furthermore, this course does not have an art component but will explore the cultural and linguistic side of anime. Students will be graded on the use of appropriate linguistic structures and cultural reference in their works.

Would you?

>A class that makes you think life is like your Chinese cartoons
>>
This sounds absolutely horrifying.
>>
Everyone talking about K-On? No, thank you.
>>
>needing beginner level Japanese
pleb.
>>
They're not even teaching kanji?
>>

Sounds like a jp culture class with beginner jp and anime sprinkled in.

Still I'm down with getting credits for a class like that. Although...
> The software comes with templates that students can use, so drawing skills are not a necessary prerequisite.

Idk... This just sounds dirty to me.

>College

No thanks, I don't really like being a slave and I'd rather watch anime. You fags have fun though.
>>
>>73971578 (OP)
I wonder what kind of students that class would end up with.

Still sounds delightful though. 90% of /a/ would do it, I don't care what anyone says.
>>
>>73972042
Why?

Anime is an activity you enjoy partaking in, but if you got a golden opportunity to learn about the country behind the magic with like minded peers, you don't even consider it.

Wtf? Why is /a/ full of autistic, extremist niggers.

I just found it mildly amusing until that part. NOPE.
>>
>>73972274
Because learning how things work makes them suck.

I'm still pissed off at elementary school science for ruining Slinkys for me.
>>
>>73972274
I think the issue is that if a class like this was offered, the people taking it would be anything but like-minded peers.
>>
>>73972309
Yeah, sounds like a gimmick. It'll probably draw some people in with that, while others will shy away for that reason.

Then their's me. I don't really like that part, but I don't give a fuck, I'd do the class/
>>
>>73972274
I'll rather learn for myself. Immersion learning faggot
>>

Gravity.

>equates college to slavery
You're so white it hurts.
>>
>>73972274
Not him, but I'd rather learn the language as a "science", so to speak. Taking a class based around learning Japanese for anime and manga is just asking for the wrong crowd. I want everyday skills. What's the point in spending semesters with Saucegay-kun's hambeast waifu just so you can learn bare-bones Japanese?
>>
>>73972274
I think the issue that bothers most of us is the curriculum. Not even covering kanji? I don't care if it's a 100 level course, it should still hit some of the most common runes. How the fuck are you supposed to get into the culture if you can't even read their websites?
>>
>>73972357
For the most part yes. I'm a pretty friendly person, so I'd get along with the weeaboo faggots fine, while analyzing all the students who I would be socially compatible with. Plus I don't judge books by their covers, so no matter what kind of impression I think someone will make on me, I give it about a month to formulate a good enough profile on all my classmates. I guess that makes me like a wolf in sheeps clothing.
>>
It depends on the anime

I wonder what a native speaker's reaction to someone whose knowledge comprises of only that course would be like.
>>
No, I'm already learning this just fine on my own. Because it's a hobby. Why pay to learn about it?
>>
As someone taking a normal 100 level Japanese course at the moment, this would be fucking horrifying. My class doesn't really have any vocal weeaboos, but I can only imagine the terror of anime club class.
Plus,
>no kanji
It's like they don't even want to learn the language or something.
>>
>>73972274
>wtf
>niggers
Looks like you clicked on the wrong board there.
>>
>>73972438
I am not white. It's just that college for me is slavery, doing work that you don't want to do in order to complete your education in order to get a job and for what? Money for my hobby which I won't even get to enjoy as much as I am right now? That's so goddamn pointless.
>>
>>73972384
You can do that. Sure.
But...
When you sign up for a class you make a commitment, so you're likely to learn all that information faster because otherwise you'd waste your time. Not only that, you'll also walk away with knowing more Japanese, Hiragana, Katakana and more about the culture, all while having anime on some level sprinkled in.

>>73972438
Hey white people can be niggers too. Don't a racist.

>>73972488
I live a pretty standard life. Do activities and have interests outside of anime, but I'm very open minded. So the hope is other people join the class who are like me. I mean it's the thought that all the wrong people are going to join the class that ruins it, because if all the people who thought that and didn't take the class because that kept them from it, could've found someone chill had they done it.

>creating their own anime/manga

I was with it up until this part, just because I like anime and manga and want to learn Japanese doesn't mean I want to make my own original animu do not steal. I hate that shit.
>>
>>73972867
Goodie, it will be easy to learn culture when you already learned the basics. From what I said about immersion learning. I surround myself with Japanese things.

>shows
>music
>books
>any material with Japanese

It's also the same way how we improve our English. We surround ourselves and get along with people who understood English.
>even though english isn't my native tongue
>>
>>73971578 (OP)

Nope. I taught myself hiragana and katakana in the span of maybe 3 weeks, and I wasn't even going at a particularly fast pace. The most important part of learning the language by far is kanji - which is pretty much what you learn hira and kata for. Listening/speaking/writing are important, but not until you know kanji.

Otherwise, what a waste of a class.
>>
>>73972518
Well it's probably not to overwhelm anyone. With hiragana and katakana you can read a great deal in Japanese, and there's online resources and plug-ins for Mozilla for example that eliminate the problem of not knowing Kanji. And if someone doesn't want to learn that way, even though I wouldn't see why, find a class or school that'll teach pure kanji academically.
>>
>Walk into class on the first day
>Gomenasai everyone
>Only say gomenasai

Ken-sama would be proud
>>
>>73972572
I agree.
>>
>>73972594
Well some Japanese english classes learn the language from watching Hollywood vids, and I don't like them dubbed either, they much prefer it subbed.
>>
>>73972652
>vocal weeaboos
Smooth anon. Yeah I read between the lines.
>>
>1 credit hour

dude yes, easy A for GPA boost and doing something you enjoy

how often do you people even talk to your peers during lecture huh? Never. Just cause the other students are gaia or some terrible shit that you face every day by walking down the street doesn't mean you have to interact with them.

>>
>>73972960
Well if you're committed to it then you have a point, and school isn't necessary, going to school is like the reason boxers pay to have a coach, sometimes it's just easier to learn things with a ball and chain, and a slavemaster yelling at you.
>>
>>73972924
That's pretty much how most of us feel here at the secret club.
>>
>>73973183
That reminds me of my high school years, too bad I dropped out. Haha
>>
I'm a dude who likes anime and lolis, not a fucking weeaboo
>>
>>73973160
Easy A, if you can stomach reading all that Naruto.
>>
>>73971578 (OP)

Yeah I'd give it a shot, I could use a boost with my Japanese, and I feel too crazy saying things outloud by myself. Might be nice to have a conversation with other people that share my interests in a language we both like.
>>
>>73973242
I almost did too, unfortunately everytime I fuck up, fate intervenes and saves my ass.

Drop out of school. Still end up with a diploma.
Crash a car. Cop is nice, I get off scot free.
Still liquor from a Walgreens. I talk it through and get out without having the cops called.

Those are a few examples, but that's pretty much the flow of my life. I seem to get really lucky whenever shit gets real.
>>
This is a what if right? Please tell me something like that doesn't actually exist.
>>
>>73973494
Sounds real to me.
>>
>>73973460
You fucking lucky bastard. After I dropped out of school all I get is programming contracts. That's how I made my life in the past 2 years.

Supposed to graduate high school at the age of 16
>Implying we don't have the K12 system.
>>
>>73973356
Sac State bro here. I took that class last year, and no one in our class mentioned or was reading Naruto. In fact, one of the manga our professor had us look at Goglo 13 which in my opinion was fucking badass.
>>
Oh god I'm starting school in the fall and am planning to learn Japanese for business purposes, but I'm so scared it will be nothing but annoying weeaboos.
>>
>>73973636
It might not be too bad.
Imagine you wind up in the same class as the next generation of Tommy Lee Jones'.
>>
>>73973615
Never been happier to stand corrected. Glad it wasn't shit for you.
>>
I'd take a Japanese class, but I don't like talking to people.

Maybe I'd be more confident in a language that isn't English.
>>
>>73973579
Wow if that's all really true, then you're my fucking hero.
I may have unthinkable luck, but I'm 19 and jobless. Sucks.
>>
>>73973636
>Business purposes
>Not Chinese
You're full of shit.
