Dai = 大 as in 大阪 Osaka
The "con" is English "con" as in "convention."
It refers to the Nihon SF Taikai being helded for the fourth time in the city of Osaka and has nothing to do with radishes
>>
This thread is so much nicer then all the Rebuild faggotry going on so far. God I wish that sires would just die already.
>>
>>73892201
It got its nickname as the DaiCon as a pun on daikon radishes. And yes, everyone is in on the joke. That's why the Daicon girl flies around in a daikon radish spaceship.
>>
>>73892201
Except that both the Daicon III and IV animations used the radish image as a play on the name of the con.

>>
>>73891983
Nihon SF Taikai, it's a Japanese Sci-Fi convention. It's got various nicknames depending on where it's held. Including Dai-Con when it's held in Osaka.

It is a pun and radishes are prominent in both the DAICON III and IV openings.
>>
>>73892341
some of them do have inteligent discussions. Sadly about 60% are waifu fags that reject the source material in favor of thinking of Eva as a dating sim.
>>
>>73892198
The album goes a bit downhill after Yours Truly, 1095. Sure, From the End of the World and Hold on Tight are pretty good, but the rest just isn't as much as a joy to listen to as the first 2 actualy songs. If the entire concept album were to have experimented more and been as different as Twilight and Yours Truly have been, then oh boy, it would have been one of the best albums out there.

eh 80% is waifu faggotry or terrible shipping. 20% IS legitimate discussion. IMHO Asuka fags are the worst with Rei and Kaoru fags tend to be pretty calm (untill 2.0) Now Rei fags are screaming shit like "REI HAS WUN TEH EVANJELLYONS" completely defeating the message of eva. Anyway enough about evanjellyon are has anybody seen Nadia? I,m considering picking it up.
>>
>>73892341
The arguments in Rebuild threads are as follows.

Reifags think they won the evan jellyon because Asuka was pretty much given the finger to actual screen time and shafted in the love interest department with Shinji. Then when Asukafags clams Shikinami as generic tire tsundere and shallow former self. Reifags counter with 'Hur dur you just butthurt because Asuka is more likable now and has character development". Worst is that both sides claim not to be shipping when it's obvious they're dancing around the subject and inserting it between the lines of their arguments.

Eva should have stayed dead. It was perfect the way it was. Thanks Anno.

I like Nadia, though it does have its share of issues. Namely the outsourced filler episodes. Gainax couldn't keep up with the workload and had to outsource a couple of arcs and it REALLY shows a significant drop in animation quality and inconsistency amongst the characters. The longer Island arc isn't THAT bad and the Red Noah bits are actually relevant to the story. You can just flat out skip 32-34. Those are the absolutely abysmal African village arc and musical recap episodes. You literally miss nothing but terrible animation and character derailment.
The series returns to Anno and Gainax for 35-39 and ends very strongly so yes, I do highly recommend it. I hope you have 63 gigs to spare.

Nah, just 39. Plus a 10 omake episodes that(to my knowledge) didn't get the BD treatment.
>>73893185
To copy-pasta from /m/:
Here's the funny thing about Nadia, even though she's the eponymous character, she's not reall the protagonist. Jean is much more the protagonist than she. He is the sympathetic one, he's the one who has to rise to the occasion and save the day. Yes, Nadia's the one around whom the story revolves, but Jean is the heart and soul of the story.
And yes, she's flawed, she's very flawed. The show makes zero attempts to hide it. Just look at the omake about her. It's not flattering.
But then, this is where a thing called a "character arc" comes into play. She starts off snobby and pushy but as time goes on she learns to mellow out. As said before, her anger is treated within the show as a fault. She isn't depicted as a paragon of righteousness who is there to shame everyone into following her will as most director's mouthpieces are. In the end she grows up and changes into a better person, but in order to become better, there has to be something to correct. I always fail to see why people are upset when an angry, emotional, teenage girl acts like, well, an angry, emotional, teenage girl.
>>
>>73893266
39 eps, 10 extra omakes and a movie = 50
>>
>>73893347
>movie
NO. NO. NO.
No, there was no movie. There was no cheap, shitty cash-in movie bereft of Anno and Gainax. Nope. Nope. Nope. And it wasn't called something retarded like The Secret of Fuzzy or anything. And it didn't unnecessarily introduce some random girl to be some random romantic foil to a relationship that was perfectly fucking wrapped up at the end of the series, no it did not.

>>
>>73894117
Am I wrong, are those shows not irrelevant?
>>
>>73894190
Yes, you are wrong for hating people for politely discussing anime of any kind(barring Naruto) on an anime board.
You are a shame on all Evafags by being, in your own words, a "sperglord" for being so upset that people are discussing a few anime titles that are rarely brought up. Do the rest of us a favor and leave /a/ until you turn 18. See you in six years.
And yes, they are historically relevant, but I wouldn't expect someone as young as you to grasp that.
>>
>>73894190
Every single anime ever made is irrelevant.
>>
>>73894394
Yes, they're so historically relevant that Anno's directing four remade films in honor of their legacy. Lets not forget how many times you'll see industry changing titles such as Nadia in your average top 10 list or 3x3 by fans.
>>
>>73894663
I'm not going waste my time arguing with you, you're just so willfully stupid it hurts.

>>73894394

>>
>>73894824
Yes, there are so many good people in the Eva fandom, I don't have the time to waste dealing with the "sperglords" like him.
>>
>>73894663
Most fans never bother going back more than a few years when looking at older stuff so something that's near 20 years old is obviously not gonna be on those lists. History is just a word to most young people
>>
>>73894865
just ignore him. BTW where did the term "speglord" come from anyway?
>>
>>73894895
That's true enough. Nadia doesn't have any historical relevance though, it was just a fairly popular anime, that's it
>>
>>73894908
He used it to describe us twice. I haven't the slightest clue what it actually means. It's been too long since I was in middle school.
>>
>>73894895
most youngsters avoid it because they expect a 20-30 year old show to have good animation by 2010 standards. Or avoid it because they think it's cheesy. Kinda sad now that you think about it.
>>
>>73894986
Far too many of the youngsters here think that liking anything that's more than ten years old can only be by nostalgia goggles. Daytime /a/ is really pathetic sometimes.
>>
>>73895123
the only thing that seems to get discussed is stuff that only got released recently or is running now. Kinda sad actually.
>>
>>73894986
I find current animation lacking more so than old. Love how detailed some of the old shows were, compared to the the coloured blobs some of the current stuff tends to devolve into.
>>
>>73894972
And for all the same reasons anime get popular today too. Nadia carries the whole show.

>>73895182
Are you serious.
>>
Why is everything about the 80's so terrible?
>>
>>73895182
I agree to this.
For some reason newer shows rarely feature any mech porn. And character design is just copy+paste one model.
I kinda get the "let people like what they like" but it kinda annoys me that most of the stuff that gets released now is moe SOL.
>>
>>73895159
It's typical that currently airing things to be discussed the most, that doesn't bother me. What grinds my gears is the abject rejection of discussion of older series. It doesn't seem quite that bad at night when all the youngsters are in bed. But I still lament that people exist who seriously decry older anime simple for having the audacity to be old.

I'm trying to watch Mobile Suit Gundam but the horrific art and familiar plot is driving me nuts. The plot isn't even bad- and the setting and back story is cool-it's just that it's been copied by so many anime due to it's popularity that I can't get excited about anything in the actual pioneer of said plot and subsequent tropes. The only thing I like about it so far is Char and his red Zaku-and that sure as hell isn't enough to carry everything else. I especially hate those fucking horribly drawn children. Everytime I see them on screen, I get sort of mad.

not the same as anime. Anime as we know it is copied from cartoons the Japan stationed US marines where watching. It's one of the reasons early anime resembled the 1930's pie-eye animation shorts.

I'd like to see some actual evidence of that.

like I said it's not like the GI's would turn over the tapes.

Maybe not but the knowledge was available. There's a big difference between tooling up an industry from scratch with no prior knowledge and doing so while being able to tap into the expertise of others. The second puts you in a position to catch up rather quickly.
>>
>>73898294
There was no tape. It was strictly film back then. And you wouldn't get tapes you'd send people off to learn and/or hire people who already had the expertise.

Nor did they burn everything they Japan had acquired before the war.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now, what I'm with isn't it, and what's "it" seems weird and scary to me.

Actually a decent amount of 60s anime films are fairly well animated. The little prince and the 8 headed dragon comes to mind.

>>73897929
You have to build infrastructural for an animation industry. Good animators, Key frame animators, storyboardists and directors don't appear over night.
>>
>>73898738
His point was that they didn't have to do it from scratch. They had others to learn from and that helped them build faster.

They did have to start from scratch for weekly broadcasts and working on a weekly schedule. Most western animation at that time were feature films.

That loli is beautiful!

They wouldn't have started there tho, they would have started with films as well. TV was introduced just as the war was starting and as a result didn't really take off till the 50's. The western animation studios started to work things out here at that point. Pretty sure Japan was still behind till the 60's but my knowledge of the history at that point is pretty fuzzy. I do remember Osamu Tezuka was adapting the Disney style of animation in the 60's tho.

I enjoyed this video (O Parts OMAN) thanks to some anon whom posted a mediafire link for it. It was better than this gif had me expecting.

Mirai Shonen Conan looks fucking great most of the time and it's older than Gundam. Most TV anime from any era looked better than it
>>
>>73899533
No, Tezuka started with limited animation as opposed to the west's full-animated.
And their "studios" were hardly professional at the time.

You're probably confusing the fact he took inspiration for his designs from Disney.
>>
>>73899628
It was adorable.
>>
>>73899721
Might be. Tho the west did know how to produce limited animation. before that. You can see it in some of the early WB Merry Melodies stuff. As for professionalism, its to be expected when your trying to switch to a new medium from and older one.

Future Boy Conan looks great for 70s anime.
>>
>>73898872
It's about a man brought to the future who has a robotic replica of his lover from the 80s, and about how he can't love her, but maybe one day he will succumb to his desires.
I don't think that's being a Reifag.
