I don't know how plausible it is, but if we crashed a few Ice Comets into Mars around the equator to get a little more water vapor in the air, at least temporarily, we might be able to introduce some algaes to do that.
Or we could just pump a shitload of carbon dioxide onto Mars, enough to warm it up and melt some ice... THEN introduce the algae and simple plants.
Of course THAT was will take thousands of years.

>Titan has an atmosphere with higher pressure than Earth's
Titan is also very cold and very far away from the Sun and it's protected from atmosphere being broken down by solar wind since it sits in the big-ass magnetosphere of Jupiter.

Mars frequently has >0°C temperature, and has absolutely no magnetosphere to speak off.
>>

>>
>>70390897

The best part of the whole thing is the source on that quote at the end.
>>
>>70391471
Actually Titan is Saturn moon and the problem is gravity which is less than Earth's.
>>
>>70391462

Which is why only planets with gravity around 1g should be colonized. Other answer are cities with artificial gravity.

Do you even realize how many diseases and deformities humans born in Mars's gravity would develop? Just imagine what would happen to their bones.
>>
meh, we should just set jupiter off and turn it into a weak sun
>>
>>70390845
Basically it is. But that process has been going on for BILLIONS of years and the likelihood that other genetic material will act as replacement is 99.9%. We're safe. Don't worry.
>>
>>70391471
That wasn't the point though. The point was that a smaller mass can still hold a substantial atmosphere.

>>
>>70391665
Probably because it's much further away from the sun and is protected by Saturn's huge-ass magentosphere so it doesn't have to worry about the solar wind blowing it away.
>>
>>70391535
>Saturn
Yeah, I had a brain fart. Still, even colder and far away. And Titan has twice less gravity than Mars. The problem isn't gravity (well, it is for humans, since we're actually pretty dependant on 1g for development, but let's not go that way).
>>
>>70391634

Auto domestication of humanity is a fact. Males are becoming weaker, less aggressive and in general less "manly" when there are no wars. Western civilization is going that route for generations now.

Which is not really a bad thing. Just look at Bonobo. Our society is getting closer and closer to them.
>>
>>70391814
Dude. The process really is taking billions of years. The Y chromosome is old as fuck. Don't worry, the only thing that's changing our attitudes so wildly is culture, and it can revert. We still do evolve, but the newest gene is 10,000 years old.

You can do all of what you're talking about here to terraform mars, these are all ideas already being proposed by expert.

The problem is still the planet's size being too small. You can terrafrom it and create an atmosphere. It won't last forever though and eventually mars would die again and you'd have do re do the terraforming process.

A magnetosphere is what protects us from solar winds, so that we not only not fry to death, but also make sure our atmosphere stays intact while allowing some solar radiation to penetrate. The current theory is that Mars lost all its water because it lost its magnetosphere. Because it lost it, more solar radiation was able to enter, and thus evaporate the water. And since there is no atmosphere to keep the water cycle intact, all that water just went into space.

tl;dr--The magnetosphere is saving your ass now as you argue on the internet.

numbers win over strength
those satellites can be locked down, no one cound have access to it, they would avoid everything.
Those shits on ground would create insane polical wars, also it would be a great target for terrorists.
With two times the satellites we need they would have to shoot down too many at once to fuck up everything.

>The rover completed its planned 90-sol mission. Aided by cleaning events that resulted in higher power from its solar panels, Spirit went on to function effectively over twenty times longer than NASA planners expected following mission completion. Spirit also logged 7.73 km (4.8 mi) of driving instead of the planned 600 m (0.4 mi), allowing more extensive geological analysis of Martian rocks and planetary surface features. Initial scientific results from the first phase of the mission (the 90-sol prime mission) were published in a special issue of the journal Science.

>On May 1, 2009 (5 years, 3 months, 27 Earth days after landing; 21.6 times the planned mission duration), Spirit became stuck in soft soil. This was not the first of the mission's "embedding events" and for the following eight months NASA carefully analyzed the situation, running Earth-based theoretical and practical simulations, and finally programming the rover to make extrication drives in an attempt to free itself. These efforts continued until January 26, 2010 when NASA officials announced that the rover was likely irrecoverably obstructed by its location in soft soil, though it continued to perform scientific research from its current location.

>The rover continued in a stationary science platform role until communication with Spirit stopped on March 22, 2010. JPL continued to attempt to regain contact until May 24, 2011, when NASA announced that efforts to communicate with the unresponsive rover had ended.

That little thing fought to the very end. :_;

I think what he meant is that it would be better if we invented ways of using planets without killing them in the process, as in we would be able to live on the planet almost forever without us fucking it up beyond repair.
>>
>>70394404
The first paragraph of that alone is already correct. The Earth is quite capable of fixing itself as long as man leaves it alone long enough that reducing human population would be beneficial. The problem of course is that it takes generations before any noticeable changes can be made. Plastic is another problem that the Earth has problems fixing. But reducing plastic waste pollution still fixes that since less people will be around to add to the problem.

create a glass bubble of a floating airship greenhouse filled with plants. slowly expose them to the acidic atmosphere.

Over several generations of plants, they will eventually be able to survive the acid, and eventually be able to thrive.

Convert the atmosphere into oxygen, toss a few hundred ice comets into it, and viola! a tropical water planet with healthy volcanic system, allowing for strong magnetic field to protect against solar activity, which will last long after the planet Earth itself dies off.
>>
>>70394552

technology is already part of our evolution. We will not adapt to new worlds, we will adapt them for our use.

If we could get a rocket that can travel fast enough, yes.

It is roughly 4.37 lightyears away. Assuming we could press this rocket at 1/10th the speed of light, it would take 43 years to reach it.

since the only real issue is fuel, we can make it with current earth tech.

It means that if we had actually funded the space program, we could have used available technology to launch a probe twenty years ago and been receiving data from it today. Alpha Centauri is four light years away, a probe can't reach it in one year, but an Orion-powered spacecraft could make the trip in twelve to fifteen.
