Attention extension/user script/archive developers: 4chan's new HTML will be going live tomorrow, Sunday the 13th, at approximately 12:00PM ET. Please have your new versions ready to roll by then.

Attention everyone else: GET READY FOR EXCITEMENT!! On Sunday we'll be rolling out our new imageboard HTML/CSS. Everything has been rewritten from the ground up and replaces code that is nearly a decade old. The designs will be 100% the same, but this should allow us and other developers to more easily modify and create add-ons for 4chan. Large threads should also render more quickly, and we also have a new mobile view for those on mobile phones. And a few other goodies.

We expect the migration to be pretty painless, but expect some wonkiness tomorrow afternoon. The Official 4chan Chrome Extension will be updated immediately, and has a bunch of new features and runs 3x faster than the old one, so be sure to grab that in advance.

Final Fantasy X is incredibly linear, railroaded crap.

X-2 has a better battle system, a dynamic job class system, relatively non-linear mission-based gameplay, and tons of extra content.

The only people who like X better than X-2 are people who think story is more important than the actual gameplay...and even then, those are people who can't appreciate something light-hearted and bubbly.

Linear isn't bad, really. The problem with FFX isn't linearity.

I wish you could explore the temples more and that they weren't just the same room over and over again, before the puzzle area. The only exceptions were the ice one and Zanarkand, if I remember correctly, and it was necessary for those to be different.

Gameplay is ALWAYS more important than story.

If you want story and minimal gameplay, you want a visual novel.

If you can't appreciate a JRPG without a dense story, then you're the one who's playing the wrong genre.

Some of the best turn-based JRPGs have minimal stories. Go try any Final Fantasy game that came before IV...or even a western game like Wizardry...or Dark Spire...or also any Dragon Quest game before IV.

Story still isn't the most important thing in a JRPG.

Also, a game can have a story that isn't dense but is still good.

There are ways of conveying a story in games that can't be done with any other medium. If a game needs cutscenes and gigantic walls of text to progress its plot, then the writer is fucking up.

Final Fantasy V's story isn't as dense or cutscene-heavy as a lot of other FF games, but I'd say its story is much better.

It also has some of the most well-done dramatic moments in the series. It does it without dense text or cutscenes.

You experience things like the Dawn Warriors dying one by one...and Galuf's final battle.

The story in FFV is top tier.

FFX-2's world exploring was great too.

I loved actually being able to jump over small barriers and shit.
it was glorious.

Imagine if they made FFX-Zero starring Braska, Jecht, and Auron using FFX-2's world exploration, job classes, and battle system.

The final battle could explain why Yevon was such a weak piece of shit at the end of FFX (because Braska, Auron and Jecht slapped his shit hard enough to make him weak enough for Yuna to stop once and for all).

You could also work in some other world-building stories involving the Al-Bhed and maybe exploring more of the Zanarkand ruins.

The ending is a solo battle 1v2 with Yunalesca and Zaon's Final Aeon vs a Auron that ends in him being mortally wounded by destroying her Aeon, further paving the path for Yuna to kill Yunalesca.

Yep that's where it is. The battle system was the weakest thing about the game. I don't know how else they would do it if they couldn't do random battles because of how they wanted you to experience the fine work they did on the world; and making the game hack and slash is obviously a bad idea.However, if you enjoyed this automatic gambit system and think making active strategic choices at every turn to further your game progress is tedious then maybe the RPG genre isn't for you.

Not to mention, you either set and forget a Gambit, in which you aren't experimenting with your tactics properly or you end fussing more with the gambit commands for each situation instead of getting on with the game.

What is the difference?

What is the difference between pre-programming party actions and selecting choices? You're still making the decisions by programming the party with what you want. Manually selecting options isn't exactly thrilling or challenging gameplay. The challenge comes from preparation and being able to react to situations that you didn't see coming.

Also, you can play the game without ever using gambits, so there's no logical reason to complain about them anyway.

That was the only game where I had both a white and black mage, and was 80x better than every other character. Character balancing? Auron was the shittiest character, and Wakka was best up until late game, where Yuna properly leveled to use the strongest black and white magic blew everyone out of the water.

Opinions of LO

Lost Odyssey IMO is the only good throwback JRPG of this generation that did classic gameplay well and kept in interesting.
Also it did make cry twice
During disk one "you know when" and the ending

Crisis Core was great overall. The Zack Fair went from an upstart naive brat to a mature battle hardened veteran throughout the story. Throughout it all though, he stayed who he was at heart. He was a valiant soldier and gentle man who valued his friends above himself. His sense of Justice was impeccable all the same. In the end, he dies being twice as amazing as the men he idolized just a few years before. Overall, I just couldn't hate on this game if I tried. I knew what was going to happen at the end of it, but I still cried manly tears.

For a game I rate it 10/10.

For a life lesson and hero to look up to I rate it 100/10.

I loved FF13's OST. I think it's the best thing to come out of the game. I also enjoyed the OST to 10 very much, especially the tracks by Hamauzu, funnily enough.
