In a novel, real action doesn't start happening till about halfway through, and halfway through the Moretsu novel is probably not even going to be in this season.

It has too little action, and the space exploration aspect is not used enough to be a good adventure anime.

The characters aren't developed enough, there are too much secondary characters and don't interact too much, for it to to be a good slice of life.

Instead of being a serialization, they good have her do a different adventure every episode. Have a build up, conflict, climax and resolution every episode. This usually is the best way to do exploration sci fi.

/a/ likes Spice and Wolf, and the action is kept the minimum there because the show is driven by Horo and Lawrence's interaction with each other and the towns they visit. Pirates feels like it borders on wanting to have action, but then just turns away in favor of Marika and the princess discussing something instead. Sure you have the hacking and minimal diversity tactics in space between ships, but it's not really enough and just leaves the view unsatisfied. The exploration of the golden ghost ship could have led to more amazement and wow factor, a chance for the animators to really outdo themselves, but it came off as underwhelming and straight to the point. The show isn't bad, but I find it hard to be excited for what's happening on screen or invested in any of the characters. Stellvia was sort of the same way.

Good enough to keep me watching every week and I dont care if people like it or not.

Therefore it makes sense that I "could care less" about it, because I obviously care about it to some degree if I watched 14 episodes of it already, and clearly have a sizable collection of Moretsu images, and on top of all that made a thread discussing how much better Rocket Girls was in comparison to it.

Only thing I could say had the potential to give Marika some character development was the "Should I've a pirate or keep in the school?" at the first eps, but it ended being meaningless since she was given the oportunity to do both things.
