04/03/12(Tue)16:38 No. 63709031 The
folks wanting Toonami back want it back with all the shows it used to
air, so they pretty much want the same thing Adult Swim's been doing
with airing Bebop and GitS nonstop over and over again for years that
people complain about. Even if it came back with new shows, it'd all be
stuff we'd already seen years ago. We love Toonami because it was
something great from our childhood that's no longer around, and it was
great because we watched it when we first started into anime, and the
other night was great because it reminded us of that great time from our
childhood, but if it came back, the nostalgia would quickly wear off
and, to us, it would just be a localized anime block. If the 10-15 year
olds want it back, let them have it, because they're who the block was
intended for when it ran, but the 10-15 year olds of a decade ago are
now the ones watching Adult Swim at 2am, so that's when they aired the
reboot, so no current 10-15s saw it. Should [AS] increase how
much anime they air back to the levels they did in the early-to-mid 00s?
Maybe, it served as a transition for a lot of kids-turned-teenagers who
grew up on Toonami from being Toonami fans to actually being anime fans
and moving on to downloading fansubs, but teenagers are also obnoxious.
Should CN start up a new, non-Toonami action cartoons block during the
day that serves the same purpose Toonami once did? Aw hell yea. But the
only purpose to bringing back Toonami would be for the adults who grew
up on it to nostalgia over, which could only be maintained for a few
weeks at most before, at best, dissolving that nostalgia, or at worst,
leading everyone to hate the wonderful thing they used to love.
