Every day in the morning when taking the London underground I make certain to take out my beastly Dell XPS 17'' laptop because it is portable, turn the speakers up to max volume, and engage myself in an episode or two (depending on how long the journey is) of Naruto or One Piece.

The problem is the area I live in has no anime fans, so it wouldn't make much positive impact on my social life if I was "out" about it, just the negative perceptions of my colleagues and professors.

I will admit to having a lot of cognitive dissonance about being into anime/manga as a result of hiding my powerlevel. Though that's only part of it, the other half is being unable to relate with any "geek culture" at all - I.E. I don't like any of the axillary shit that typically comes with anime fandom; the music, con/club scene, the fans, I don't play any games, etc. I probably shouldn't even be hanging out on 4chan anymore.

As for the OPs question I do what any normal person would do. I don't talk about it unless someone brings it up and even then I make sure not to completely reveal myself. If I hear someone talking about big 3 stuff I just ignore them like any normal person.

I have actually managed to talk about anime with a couple other people, but none of them have a very high powerful. There is one person I know who just recently got into it, and I give him recommendations and get him to watch currently airing shows. The only problem is he talks about it all the time and is obsessed with Japan.

I also know a normalfag guy who likes hentai, but isn't into anime. He's even open about it, and people freak out or make fun of him when he tells them. I'd like to give him recommendations so he stops watching poorly animated stuff and sees all the good H manga out there, but it'd feel weird.

Well I was 13 when he died, I am now 22. I don't know if we could still do anything about it. All i know is, that was the most horrifying day of my life.
