Basically their powers were manifestations of their delusions. They'd picture a sword and bring it into reality. Being crazy increases the power of said delusions (It's easier to picture a sword if you're hallucinating).

I'm not who you are responding to, but how would someone end up watching a anime like Chaos;Head and not have any idea about the existence of the VN?

It's not exactly well known or talk about. Seem like someone would have to look it up to even know of it.

They completely ruined the mood of the VN. It came out more like some generic harem comedy. It completely skipped a pretty important scene (the part where he finds his sister's severed hand ). I stopped watching the anime near the end when it started becoming a huge clusterfuck. OP starting this thread is proof that the anime did a bad job of explaining what was going on because I wasn't confused at all after finishing the visual novel. Also, those spoilers in the opening were pretty ridiculous.

We were. The original PC VN was just somewhat translated when the anime was announced.

Heard Noah was remade a bit better. Either way, I'm pretty glad they got their shit together for Steins;Gate.
