I think I finally understand why anime fanbase is so shitty in general.

You people are obsessing over characters instead over the quality of story writing/direction/setting/music/etc.

If character is utter shit personality BUT somehow it appeals to your eyes you will start obessing over her/him.

Shows like K-ON,Strike Witches,Infinite Stratos,Generic Haremshits encourage such behaviour.

This is exactly like /tv/'s bullshit where they post horrible female actresses from Disney shows because they find them "cute".

Why are you doing this?
Why are you supporting downfall of actually good shows?

OP you mistake the point of why people like anime. Anime is entertainment. If you want to fap over depth of the story deep symbolism and impact on your personal life - go watch some indie movies.

We watch anime to relax, to laught, to go "what the fuck!", to fap, to feel warm inside. We watch anime not because its in any way superb to any other media.

The essense of anime - it being silly, full of tropes and clishe, ecchi, so stupid that such thing never would appear in western movies or books, e.t.c.

We like anime for what it is. If you want something different - well, maybe you shouldnt watch anime and find yourself another media that fits your standards more.

Nothing against good story, but its not requirement for anime - considering the strength of the anime/manga genre is that its detached from western conceptions and limitations of other genre and can allow itself to experiment and be batshit insane in any way it likes.

Plus people tend to group all "anime" in one category, while its as stupid as grouping all tv shows and movies as one since they are "on tv".

Sometimes theres anime with great well though story. Sometimes theres batshit insane nonsense.

Both are good. Complaining that not enought anime of your genre or preferences is just stupid. The best anime masterworks were able to be created BECAUSE of how theres no restrictions on how anime would be made, and no conventions of specific quality.

Even the most known and best quality anime titles, would be trashed to pieces if taken apart and analized from standpoint of litterature or proffessional scenario or theatre writing.

As someone watching anime since early 90th, i can only laught at this statement. The anime people watched on the 90th on VHS were mostly hentai and gore OAVs , and some kids shows on TV.

idea spread only because of Ghibli movies

Anime never was unique in aspect of making shows for adults (which mostly doesnt mean they are mature, just means content is not suitable for kids). French Comics are better mature comic than most of the manga.

The perception that anime should be "deep" appeared later when it became mainstream with internet and normalfags that watched 5-10 shows appeared that were convinced all anime should be like Mushishi or Haibane Renmei.

the worst part about this is that Hayao Miyazaki himself has admitted that all of his movies except Porco Rosso were made for a young audience. people who know nothing about Japanese culture look at Princess Mononoke and its violence and think "HOW COULD THIS NOT BE FOR ADULTS" but that's just Japan's different standards.

Isao Takahata's movies are made for an older audience but people only care about Grave of the Firefles.
