is August 1st, 1999. Southeast Asia is plagued by droughts. Heavy rains
are causing flash floods in the Middle East. North America is
experiencing freezing temperatures.
But you don't know about any of that yet. You're just a kid in Japan, enjoying summer camp.
You
are Yagami Taichi. Age 12. 5th year at Odaiba Elementary. You have a
normal family: two parents, and a little sister. She couldn't come with
you to camp, as she had a fever.
As you doze on a tree branch, a
snowflake lands on you and wakes you up. You look up to the sky, and
suddenly see snow clouds above you. It's August, and it's starting to
snow!
Camp counselors call out to the other children to retreat
to the tents, but you're a fair distance away. You notice six other kids
of various ages, some you know well, some you sort of know, are in a
similar predicament, and seem to be going to take shelter in an old wood
shack downwind of the tents.
Should you obey the calls of the counselors and head to the tents, or take shelter with the six other kids in the wooden shack? |
