01/09/12(Mon)20:33 No.59643106What people seem to forget is that when this show aired there was nothing in the anime predating its archetypes and story.
But
now Evangelion is observed with a passing glance because
post-Evangelion anime contain elements similar. So thus, Evangelion
seems like a mediocre series because it doesn't hyper-exaggerate the
concepts it originally brought forth for easy audience consumption.
Tenchi
Muyo came out around the same time as Evangelion and can be looked at
as the last of the old anime genre (characters, setting, themes).
Post-Evangelion anime is a hybrid of that and old style with EVA having
the forefront of a show's foundation.
In a way, everything can
be blamed on Evangelion for thrusting anime out of its old tropes.
Whether Evangelion's story is good or not doesn't matter anymore. What
matters is that presented a new genre and archetypes to use.
Another
observation to note, the "Rei" archetype doesn't fully exist pre-Eva.
And the "finance obsessed" archetype barely exists anymore post-Eva. |
