Reddit/ranime:
Although only a relative newcomer to the anime forum scene, reddit has
steadily grown in popularity. Intelligent, mature discussion and
original content are common place. The site is also heavily self
moderated and welcoming to newcomers of all races and genders. In this
writer’s opinion, it is my preferred anime forum.
Anime News
Network Forums: Good discussion abounds with excellent moderation. The
site is relativity accessible to newcomers, in fact, it is the first
site you should go to. Since it’s a news site/ streaming site, news are
readily discussed and is thus a hub if you want to discuss news.
My
Anime List: A great site to be recommended an anime and to talk about
shows with other intelligent posters. Moves faster than ANN, so it might
be your preferred forum.
Gaia Online: It is the biggest anime
forum on the planet and thus it attracts its fare share of silly
comments, but overall the community is vibrant and fun to be around.
Where NOT to go: 4chan
/a/: This site is horrible. It is filled with racism and pedophilia.
All that they talk about is moe shows and have a horrendous warped taste
of what is good anime. Cowboy Bebop and other mature anime is looked
down upon. There is no good discussion or original content, it’s mainly
stupid comments typical of 4chan users. The site is only popular because
of its big brother /b/. The site is also ironically very elitist, with a
unwarranted superiority complex over other anime sites. As such,
newcomers are persecuted and made fools of, some even get banned. In
short, it is a horrible place to go and you shouldn't in light of the
alternatives.
