The only people who get mad over this shit don't understand translation, what it actually does or how it works. And I can guarantee they don't speak Japanese either.

Translators sometimes have to make judgment calls in order to best get across the original idea of the thing. Sometimes, yes, that involves changing the dialog. Localizing like this is only a more obvious instance of something that happens all the fucking time in all sorts of translation, and you're only mad about it because you can easily notice it. If you knew how inexact all translations necessarily are, you'd have a fucking heart attack.

I think fansubbers should go the extra mile when they sub and even preserve the Subject-Object-Verb setup of the language in addition to translating completely literally

Only complete absolutely faithful translation should be allowed.
