    ... holy shit /a/.

I just watched this for the first time, and I'm completely blown away. I laughed my ass off, I got pumped and riled up, I felt for the characters' situations, and at the end I cried joyous manly tears like a bitch. Damn, if this isn't the best anime I've ever seen.

I never visit this board, but what did you think about it /a/? TTGL thread?

It is pretty mediocre, it has a ton of loop holes. A lot of the characters feel superficial. The battles are not very well thought out.

The main premise though, as simple as it is, is brilliant. And it only gets better.

I hate how the show tried to force you to believe that Simon was a Kamina replacement. Also Yoko does not look 14

The more "superficial" characters come off as parody/comic relief anyway. The main cast (Kamina, Yoko, Simon, Viral, Rossiou, Nia, etc.) all had a great amount of development, and the show was short enough that it never really dwelled on character development too much.

Plus, the whole point of the latter half was that no one could replace Kamina, and that Simon had to become his own man. He was never supposed to be a Kamina replacement.

It's my favorite show, and has been since I first watched it while it was airing in 2007. Glad you loved it as much as I did OP. Check out the movies, they're mostly recap, but they both have some redone/improved scenes (especially the second movie. You HAVE to watch the redone final battle).

Like others already said though, this thread is probably going to turn into a shitshow, so beware.

    The characters are laughably poor.
Every single part of the show is unbelievably stupid.

But you know what? You can feel the passion the creators had for this, it's easy to get caught up in the over the top antics of this show. It's entertaining.

OP here, one of the reasons I started watching this in the first place was because I wanted a new anime and found that it actually had a pretty good dub. Kamina's voice initially seemed a little odd, but it really worked once I adjusted to it, and it sounds like the voice actors were all good at acting. Definitely one of the better dubs I've seen, the whole reason I started watching it was because I was sick of reading anime.

I didn't like it. I just found it really fucking dumb. And not the brand of dumb of something like FLCL which actually has a surprising amount of substance to it despite what was on the surface. TTGL was just plain dumb and boring. The characters weren't interesting, the fights weren't clever, the pacing was poor. The only things I liked about the show were some particularly well done scenes (scattered throughout 26 episodes of mediocrity), the design of the King Kittan, and Rossiu who I loved as a character. The fact that TTGL's fanbase has such a deep hatred for Rossiu just alienates me from their way of thinking even more.

I consider this show no better than Naruto. But that's just, like, my opinion man.

"Kick logic out the window and blah blah blah I can't remember the quote"

That's the whole point, it's not supposed to be deep or make sense, it's just supposed to feel good when you watch it.

And Rossiou was a complete and total faggot but at least he redeems himself when he goes off to commit suicide. That somehow made everything right again.

More like it's ridiculous and it knows it's ridiculous so it doesn't take itself too seriously, and instead of avoiding cliches it embraces them and is able to laugh and make fun of itself. Which is definitely refreshing.

Rossiu was a good character because it was the "realistically thinking" guy in the show which main theme was "we are capable of more than we can rationally imagine." There was just no way his type was gonna win when the moral of the story was that.

If you are saying the Kamina yelling bullshit is supposed to make me feel good i wonder what kind of underage monkey wrote that post.
A well thought out show would make me feel good, but not this crap that is called TTGL.

I can kind of understand this, but I don't think it excuses everything about the show. In particular the pacing. A show to switch your brain off to should still have good pacing. TTGL did not.

How was a show with so much action and fun characters and dialogue boring? I don't see the logic in that.

And it's not Kamina yelling things that make you feel good, it's watching all the crazy shit that goes down and the way the characters all grow over the course of the show to live up to their potential. While it wasn't as well-thought out as other shows, it was still pretty well done.

The series was pretty clearly divided into 3 distinct arcs, and the pacing within each of those arcs was consistent. It has breaks when you're marathoning it but that's the way the story itself is divided.

It's not that it's what I like, because I'm sure as hell not the only person who liked this show or found it fun to watch. In fact it's almost like it's popularity is deterring people from seeing the positive qualities in it. /v/ and /mu/ do the exact same thing.

I guess people always have a need to feel different, even when there is literally no reason to. The only reasons I've heard about why this show is "shit" so far is shallow statements like "it's boring" or "the characters are flat" or "the dialogue stinks" or "babby's first ___" with no explanation. I mean seriously, stop trying so hard.

Yeah I really don't understand the hate he gets. He was a good leader and made wise decisions to very tough problems (note:the wisest choice is not always the best choice). And the drawbacks haunted him. His only 'problem' was that he was unaware of exactly the type of show he was in. Which, actually, isn't his fault at all.

    >>59008102
See I personally found the characters and dialogue obnoxious, and the action didn't appeal to me. There are two types of fighting in shonen. One type involves the use of intelligence and tactics. Examples are Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and Hunter x Hunter. The other is powerlevel based fighting that is either 'who can punch the hardest' or involves a fighting system so lacking in limits that the protagonist can be bailed out whenever it's appropriate to the plot (Spiral Power). Examples are TTGL and DBZ. I personally prefer the former.

Just by the amount of frames being used by episodes it goes to top list on animation in anime. Of course i am not talking about overall quality (dat fourth episode) but some of the scenes are just technically on the top list so to speak.
