First time on /a/ so I don't know what kind of response this will get. I have never watched an anime before except for stuff like Dragon Ball Z as a kid, but a friend convinced me to watch the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. I really enjoyed it, and I was wondering if you guys knew of any other animes similar to this? Thanks in advance!

You seem much better than most of the usual "im new here guyz tell me what to watch lol" posters, so here you go.

You could start with the show itself the movie is based off.

It's called The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, it's got a fairly good dub if you're into that sort of thing, and it's highly entertaining.

Here's a chart full of other classics/great shows. Just go with what looks cool, chances are it will be,

Who knows; here's hoping. You could read the novels; they're a pretty easy read, and the anime is remarkably faithful to them.

So many replies, thankyou for all the images. I got a lot to watch, i guess it's lucky that I got into all this anime stuff just as I finish school.

Thanks, i was expecting this place to be /v/ but with anime, doesn't seem like the case.
One last thing, are there any characters similar to Yuki? I really loved everything about her, especially after she became more human during the movie.

She's a Rei clone, go watch Evangelion and all related movies (except Death and Rebirth) and then you can come back.

A *lot.* It's a standard anime archtype, the unfeeling emotionless girl who slowly opens up. A lot of the time, it's done pretty poorly.

Goes back to Rei from Neon Genesis Evangelion, maybe not the first but the one everyone remembers.

The trope of an expressionless or emotionless character learning to "feel" isn't uncommon. Rei from Evangelion is probably the centrepiece to this... I can't really think of any other examples other than Yin from Darker Than Black, which I'm not sure is the best one. Whatever.

FLCL. Maybe a bit out of your comfort zone, but it's one of the best animes ever (THE best imo), and with only 6 episodes, it doesn't claim much of your time.
