That's the big one. AnimeSuki has tons of people posting but their stance on fansubbing/importing/downloading means you can't fucking look for shit there. When the newest Haruhi novels were released, everyone translating them was on AS but extremely carefully phrasing their wording so as not to break the rules and say they were translating for free. Well, what the fuck else were people supposed to do? If you want the Haruhi novels legit in English you have to wait 7 years after release... or you could grab the fan translation which was available in around a month.

There are no good anime communities. All harbor very dislikable people, some are worse than others, and each has its own perks. It's the case for a medium that primarily attracts nerds, losers, and the socially deviant.

/a/'s perks is that it's anonymous, has a large pool of users that can actually discuss all sorts of anime, when you have forums with tens of thousands of users that will only discuss certain anime.

Disadvantages? The board's size and speed gives some excuse to shitpost and troll at the speed of light. Can result in lazier responses. Policing and the desire to 1-up someone rather than make a case. But the pros puts it above other communities and on par with smaller anime imageboards with less traffic but overall better quality than /a/. That's opinion, though.
